I'm Already the Richest Man, Why Did My System Just Arrive?
Chapter 334 - 193: Distant PlaceChapter 334: Chapter 193: Distant Place
"Save me,"
"Gongsun Mo."
Xie Luohe clung tightly to Zheng Xiu.
Her fingers left bloody scratches across Zheng Xiu’s chest.
Despair, helplessness, fragility, loneliness...
All these negative emotions were laid bare in Xie Luohe’s hysterical sobs.
The confidence and composure had vanished from her face and her eyes. When she learned that Nie Gong’s Treasure Vault was all for naught, and that she couldn’t bring herself to strike a killing blow against the man before her, her usual strength and invincibility shattered in an instant. The breakdown crushed her very being, rendering everything she had ever shown Zheng Xiu—everything that made her "Xie Luohe"—worthless.
For the first time, her gaze was filled with such desperation. As if grasping at a final straw, she pleaded with Zheng Xiu... no, with Gongsun Mo.
For a moment, Zheng Xiu’s heart was a tangle of complex emotions.
A trace of confusion and vexation surfaced in his eyes.
He quickly sensed his resolve wavering. Biting his tongue to clear his head, Zheng Xiu gave a silent nod. He didn’t know what to say, so he just held Xie Luohe tighter.
’It’s all fake.’
’Fake.’
But...
’Is it really?’
’What if...’
’Just what if?’
...
When Zheng Xiu and Xie Luohe emerged from Nie Gong’s Treasure Vault, one was bare-chested, his skin covered in conspicuous scratches, while the other’s eyes were red and swollen, yet her expression was as serene as a calm sky.
The earth-shattering commotion from Xie Luohe’s arrow had shocked the Yunhe Village bandits who hadn’t managed to leave yet. Their deeply buried curiosity now thoroughly piqued, they stopped near Ba Mountain to see what would happen.
Some even deliberately circled around to the back of the mountain, staring dumbfounded at the massive hole that looked like a "divine miracle."
’Who... who... who could have made that hole?’
Then, seeing the two of them walking out hand-in-hand like an immortal couple, the bandits all gasped, their minds racing with terrifying implications.
No one knew what had happened between the two inside Nie Gong’s Treasure Vault.
But they were all imagining what might have gone on in there.
A man and a woman, a giant hole in Ba Mountain, the power of a single thrust... it must have been incredibly intense.
Zheng Xiu and Xie Luohe paid the Yunhe Village bandits no mind, strolling slowly along the riverbank as if no one else was there.
Their horse was tied to a nearby tree, prancing about in alarm.
Zheng Xiu went to soothe the horse. Only then did Xie Luohe let go of his hand, a hint of reluctance in her touch.
Leaping onto the horse, Zheng Xiu reached out his hand to Xie Luohe.
"Let’s head back to Li City first and check on Old Xie’s injuries."
"Don’t worry. He’s tough as nails. He won’t die."
Xie Luohe sat behind Zheng Xiu, her head lowered as she rubbed her eyes.
"Hyah~"
As the sun set in the west, their figures on horseback cast long, slanted shadows.
Bathed in the twilight glow, Zheng Xiu spurred the horse on, racing toward Li City.
"Damn it!" Zheng Xiu suddenly slapped his forehead, his expression changing. He turned the horse around and circled through the woods a few times.
Xie Luohe lazily rested her chin on Zheng Xiu’s shoulder and closed her eyes. In a languid, calm, and soft voice, she asked, "What are you looking for?"
"Fan Yao’s body."
"And what if you find it?"
Xie Luohe didn’t open her eyes.
It was as if, at this moment, nothing in the outside world mattered to her anymore.
Zheng Xiu didn’t answer.
He searched the area. In the ravaged woods outside Ba Mountain, amidst a dozen or so bodies of Divine Martial Army soldiers, pools of blood, and discarded weapons, Zheng Xiu could not find Fan Yao’s body.
Gazing at the corpses strewn across the ground, Zheng Xiu’s heart grew heavy. He picked up a forgotten pickaxe and began digging a pit in the woods.
Watching Zheng Xiu from horseback, Xie Luohe instantly understood his intention. She dismounted and snatched the iron pickaxe from his hands.
"Without that brush, you’re really... weak."
"..."
After her taunt, Xie Luohe swung the pickaxe at an empty patch of ground.
WHOOSH!
The resulting gale howled, whipping all of Zheng Xiu’s hair back from his face.
A large pit was left in its place.
Xie Luohe was like a walking nuclear weapon, terrifyingly so. But for some reason, Zheng Xiu found himself growing numb to her displays of power.
Or perhaps, beneath Xie Luohe’s powerful exterior lay a fragile soul.
Only after they buried the bodies of the Divine Martial Army soldiers did the two of them mount the horse again.
Xie Luohe once again rested her head against Zheng Xiu’s back.
Just then, Zheng Xiu spoke. "I didn’t see Fan Yao’s body here. Perhaps he’s still alive."
Xie Luohe said softly, "It doesn’t matter."
"Still, I actually hope he is alive right now."
"Oh? Why is that?" Still leaning her head against Zheng Xiu’s broad shoulders, Xie Luohe cracked open her eyes a sliver, her curiosity piqued.
Zheng Xiu’s brow furrowed slightly. "There’s one thing I still can’t figure out. The only person who knew the secret of Nie Gong’s Treasure Vault, the Former Imperial Tutor, died right in front of me. At the time, the Former Imperial Tutor was being escorted north. If Fan Yao never had any contact with him, how did he know about the so-called secret of ’returning to a normal Human’ hidden in the vault?"
Xie Luohe closed her eyes again.
She felt nothing inside.
She listened to the voice in Zheng Xiu’s "heart."
After a moment, Xie Luohe chuckled softly. "Does it matter?"
Zheng Xiu fell silent.
He flicked the reins, and they rode further and further away.
"What are your plans now?" Zheng Xiu asked.
"I want to go somewhere."
Xie Luohe blinked, wrapping her arms around Zheng Xiu’s waist.
Zheng Xiu tensed up.
"Where?"
"Somewhere very, very far away."
"Uh..."
"Are you willing to come with me?"
Xie Luohe blinked.
"Er..."
Zheng Xiu didn’t say no.
"Hmph."
Xie Luohe huffed. "Fine, if you don’t want to."
"I didn’t say that."
Zheng Xiu sighed.
Xie Luohe pointed to her ear but didn’t expose what was on Zheng Xiu’s mind. She pressed herself against his back, feeling Master Zheng’s warmth, and they rode on in silence.
