I'm Already the Richest Man, Why Did My System Just Arrive?
Chapter 350 - 198: SkeletonXie Luohe swatted a patch of them dead with a casual wave, startling the remaining Vulture Crows into flight. Only then did she open her mouth to ask, her expression complicated, "This is..."
"It's one of Ye Weiyang's... Crow Fosterers!"
Zheng Xiu's gaze sharpened. If he hadn't seen the true face of a Crow Fosterer with his own eyes, he might not have recognized what the hell this skeleton was. But his battle with the Crow Fosterer in Jingtang Town had left a deep impression, and he immediately connected the Birdman-shaped skeleton to the Crow Fosterers.
What lay in the stone coffin was far beyond Zheng Xiu's expectations.
Zheng Xiu could have accepted it if the stone coffin had been empty.
But no, it just had to contain the skeleton of a Birdman.
The skeleton instantly threw his nearly-unraveled train of thought into utter chaos.
And yet, Zheng Xiu was almost certain. The Mystic with the Immortality Constitution, the Sun Chaser named Zhu—the one who had lingered in the world for a thousand years and lived on into the "present" two centuries later—was the same person who had single-handedly founded Ye Weiyang. He was the mastermind behind it all: the Night Lord.
What Zheng Xiu couldn't figure out was what the Night Lord had seen at the end of his journey. What were those three Pillars? Were the Crow Fosterers Human or bird? And why was the skeleton of a Crow Fosterer lying here on Sunset Peak, in the Land of the Far West, from two hundred years ago?
Just how many Crow Fosterers had the Night Lord churned out?
「Dawn broke.」
With a heavy heart, Zheng Xiu descended the mountain with Xie Luohe.
As they neared Richan Town, Xie Luohe deliberately tore a rip in the collar of Zheng Xiu's robes and messed up her own hair, making it look as if they were returning to town in a rush.
The feast had lasted all night, and the streets were littered with residents of the Great Desert, sleeping where they had fallen.
Hearing their footsteps, men and women alike lifted their heads in a daze. When they saw the pair's disheveled clothes, they exchanged knowing glances, then grumbled and rolled over to go back to sleep.
In Richan Town, Zheng Xiu and Xie Luohe stayed for a day... no, they ended up staying for ten.
At first, Zheng Xiu found the place barbaric and hard to get used to. But slowly, the simple, rustic ways of the people made him grow fond of it.
Sunrises and sunsets, the wind rustling the leaves like waves on a sea. Zheng Xiu spent his days grinding ink and painting, perfectly at ease.
「But good times don't last. On the eleventh day...」
Zheng Xiu was in the courtyard. He set down his brush and stared at the Desert Eagle Map he'd painted, a scroll utterly devoid of spiritual energy, and fell into deep thought.
"Ready to leave?"
Xie Luohe had appeared behind him at some point. She stepped forward and gently squeezed his shoulders, asking softly.
By tacit agreement, they still hadn't mentioned Feng Bei or Zheng Xiu. They were simply Gongsun Mo and Xie Luohe, enjoying a brief, quiet, and simple respite from the clamor of the Jianghu.
"Yeah."
Zheng Xiu nodded.
"What's the plan?"
Xie Luohe asked with a smile.
"I need to find someone."
Zheng Xiu replied calmly.
"Zhu?"
"Yes."
"What about Feng Bei? Giving up on him?"
There was a hidden smile in Xie Luohe's eyes.
Zheng Xiu fell silent for a moment before quickly shaking his head. "Don't."
Xie Luohe stopped kneading his shoulders. She leaned in close, and a soft lock of her long hair fell over his shoulder, tickling his cheek.
"Are you angry?" she asked.
"No."
Zheng Xiu looked away.
"Think I'm going back on my word?"
Zheng Xiu sighed. "Some things can't be forced."
"Alright, alright!" Xie Luohe slapped him on the back, nearly sending him sprawling onto the table. "I, Xie Luohe, am a woman of my word!" she declared boisterously. "My promises are as good as gold!"
"Ha! Are you sure about that?"
Zheng Xiu let out a strange laugh, making it impossible to tell if he was angry or amused.
"Then,"
Xie Luohe held up three fingers.
"You do three last things for me, and I'll give Feng Bei back to you. How about it?"
Through the gap in her three fingers, Zheng Xiu looked at her inscrutable smile. He was silent for a long moment before finally nodding.
"Name them."
