Chapter 360: Chapter 202: Ten Years

"What characters?"

Zheng Xiu and Xie Luohe exchanged a look.

They both saw a trace of surprise in each other’s eyes.

The husband and wife had the same thought.

"Probably... Bingxu?" Xie Yunliu chuckled. "Strange, isn’t it?"

Zheng Xiu nodded, feigning calm. "Where is Cheng Xiao?"

"He ran off." Xie Yunliu pursed his lips. "The entire Court is after Cheng Xiao now. There’s even a rumor going around." Xie Yunliu’s expression suddenly turned serious. "They say that whoever kills Cheng Xiao and brings back his head will be handsomely rewarded by the Court."

Zheng Xiu chuckled. "How handsome a reward?"

Xie Yunliu said, "Power over all but one."

Zheng Xiu: "But that ’one person’ you’d be answering to... that seat is still empty, isn’t it?"

Xie Yunliu: "Right now, the Second Prince, Wei Yanjun, has the most support. The infighting is intense, but from what I can see, he has the backing of many ministers. It’s only a matter of time before he becomes Emperor."

Zheng Xiu counted on his fingers and nodded. "Reasonable."

Xie Yunliu drained his last cup and sighed, "The world is about to fall into chaos."

"You know, brother-in-law, you seem to have changed."

"Huh?" Xie Yunliu was taken aback.

Zheng Xiu: "You used to be more of a rebel than anyone, always shouting ’Wei Tian is dead, the Xie shall rise!’ You wanted to be Emperor, didn’t you?"

"Tsk, who wouldn’t want to?" Xie Yunliu looked a bit awkward. He rubbed his bald head and cleared his throat twice. "My dear brother-in-law, my good brother-in-law, even if it’s just us here, don’t spout such nonsense. The walls have ears."

Zheng Xiu sipped his wine.

Xie Yunliu continued, "These days, the one I admire most is General Zheng. As long as General Zheng stands, so will I, Xie Yunliu. You haven’t seen how savage those Barbarians are—they eat human flesh and drink human blood. If they really break through the border and enter the Central Plains, it will be a bloodbath! I don’t care which Prince becomes Emperor—what does it have to do with me? To live in this world and fight one glorious battle... that would be a life worth living."

Finally,

Xie Yunliu rose, put on his heavy cloak, and left, a solitary figure. He added with a sigh, "I just hope Old Chu doesn’t lose his head and start raising banners and shouting slogans at a time like this."

The "Old Chu" he spoke of was, of course, Chu Chengfeng.

In truth, Zheng Xiu didn’t really know what had happened to them over the years.

Only that, after so many years, the most rebellious man had become a general, the most righteous Jianghu Knight had become a mountain bandit, the heir to the hidden Danqing Family had retired to the Great Desert, and the world’s greatest villain had left the Jianghu to become an ordinary wife.

All these changes made Zheng Xiu sigh at how fate toys with people.

The husband and wife saw Xie Yunliu out of Richan Valley.

Before parting, Xie Yunliu teased Xie Luohe, "Hey, little sis, you two have been married for how many years now? You gotta put in more effort, work each other to death, and pop out a couple of kids so our Old Xie family has an heir!"

Xie Luohe blushed, nodded, and stole a glance at Zheng Xiu.

Disappointed, Xie Yunliu pulled Xie Luohe aside and lectured her in a low voice, "If your husband’s body is weak, you need to build him up! If you don’t bulk him up, how’s he going to get the great deed done?!"

Xie Luohe kept her head down but shook it vigorously, like a pellet drum. After a long moment, she whispered in a voice as soft as a mosquito’s buzz, "Brother, that’s not necessary." After a pause, afraid Xie Yunliu wouldn’t believe her, she added earnestly, "Really, it’s not."

’He’s great. Really great.’

’Good in every way.’

The young wife thought to herself.

They watched Xie Yunliu leave.

Zheng Xiu feigned a spit at Xie Yunliu’s receding back. "Next time you gossip, could you be a little quieter? You ’accidentally’ let me hear that on purpose, didn’t you?"

As he said this, Zheng Xiu started laughing too.

Xie Luohe was silent for a moment, then suddenly took Zheng Xiu’s arm. Her other hand silently rose to gently caress his cheek. "I want to have a child."

Zheng Xiu gently patted the back of Xie Luohe’s hand, then caught the one that was rubbing his face. At her words, the past few years flashed through his mind like a slideshow. As if waking from a long dream, Zheng Xiu suddenly remembered his own situation. He stared blankly for a moment. He had wanted to say "Okay" to the woman by his side, but when the words came out, they turned into: "Let’s let nature take its course."

Back home, a hint of melancholy appeared on Xie Luohe’s face. It seemed she really did want a child.

「The next day.」

Zheng Xiu secretly took out several paintings and mounted them in gold-inlaid frames.

"Gaudy."

Zheng Xiu looked at the ostentatious paintings, sneered, and wrapped them in oilcloth.

’But it’s what the rich folks like.’

Zheng Xiu crossed the border alone and entered a small kingdom in the Western Regions.

His efforts over the years had opened many doors for him. Easily relying on his reputation as "Boss Mo," Zheng Xiu returned the next day. The paintings were gone, and in their place was a small cradle.

He tiptoed toward the house. The courtyard gate was ajar. As Zheng Xiu crept inside, he saw Xie Luohe with her back to the gate, washing the dishes.

Zheng Xiu came up from behind and gave Xie Luohe a big bear hug.

"Where were you last night?"

Xie Luohe’s washing motions paused. She didn’t turn around; she had heard his footsteps long ago and was only pretending not to know. Now that he was teasing her, she put on a stern face and asked, feigning calmness.

"Took a trip to the Western Regions."

"I hear the girls in the Western Regions are especially passionate," Xie Luohe said with a smile.

Xie Luohe knew Zheng Xiu’s personality well. Even if she wasn’t jealous, she still had to make a show of it on purpose.

"Are there girls in the Western Regions? I didn’t see a single one."

Zheng Xiu replied with self-righteous confidence, then presented the small, blanket-covered basket to Xie Luohe. "Hmph, hmph. I brought you back a little present."

SWOOSH.

A fluffy orange head suddenly shot out, its two emerald-green eyes staring right at Xie Luohe.

The kitten lifted a paw, and its soft, pink paw pad gently stamped her face.
