Chapter 372: Chapter 206: Convergence

The instant Zheng Xiu’s fist collided with Arturo’s.

The sound of their impact was like a great drum had suddenly materialized in Richan Valley.

BOOM!!

At the tremendous sound, the brave and battle-hardened warriors of the Sun Tribe cried out in pain, clutching their ears.

Blood streamed from Ri Di’s ears.

The blade-like shockwave instantly shredded Zheng Xiu’s shirt to tatters, revealing the powerful, perfect physique of his Projection. At the same moment, Little Feng Miao, who had been happily nestled in the Mighty Man’s arms, was sent flying. Paws splayed, it spiraled through the air like a kite with a broken string, vanishing to parts unknown. Its wide, terrified eyes looked utterly forlorn and helpless. ’It regretted everything.’

CRACK!

An unimaginable force instantly buckled Arturo’s arm. The terrifying, drum-like boom was immediately followed by the sharp crack of breaking bone. Arturo’s arm snapped in several places, shards of white bone piercing through skin and muscle to jut out into the open air!

Arturo coughed up a mouthful of blood as he was thrown backward.

The force was reciprocal. As the same power coursed through Zheng Xiu’s arm, it instantly went numb, hanging limply at his side.

Zheng Xiu stumbled back a few steps to bleed off the remaining momentum. He glanced down at his arm. Tiny, perfect beads of blood oozed from every pore, as if forcibly squeezed out. A moment later, searing pain flooded his numb limb, and he couldn’t help but grit his teeth.

Arturo’s massive, two-meter-tall frame flew backward and slammed into his own ranks, sending men and War Camels tumbling in chaos. The valiant War Camels shrieked in panic. A few unlucky soldiers who broke his fall had their organs instantly liquefied by the impact. With a series of sickening pops, bloody eyeballs shot out from the gaps in their armor. One man even coughed up a froth of his own viscera. In an instant, this turn of events threw Arturo’s army into disarray, a mess of dead and wounded, their formation completely broken.

"Husband!"

Xie Luohe glanced down at her own hands, the conflict in her eyes deepening. A rare look of anxiety crossed her face. Slinging her bow across her back, she bit her knuckle, about to rush forward to help.

With his back to Xie Luohe, Zheng Xiu raised his other hand in a gesture.

"Let me handle this."

Zheng Xiu said calmly, though his entire right arm hung trembling uncontrollably at his side.

The enemy army halted its charge, stopped by Zheng Xiu alone.

A savage grin on his face, Arturo quickly climbed up from the pile of corpses.

His face was a mask of black tattoos, and the arm that had clashed with Zheng Xiu’s was a mangled ruin. He took a step forward, and then another. Then, Arturo did something that stunned all who watched.

Arturo suddenly tore off his own shattered arm. Blood gushed from the socket, and the thick, coppery stench drifted downwind. Across Richan Valley, the people of the Great Desert, already reeling from the monstrous display of strength, watched in horror. Some of the younger children, who had never witnessed such brutality, collapsed onto the rocks, their faces ashen as they dry-heaved violently.

Arturo opened his mouth wide. Having just coughed up blood, his teeth were stained red. The stark white of his teeth against the crimson blood in his gaping maw made him look particularly horrifying.

He bit down, crunching on a finger from his own severed hand. Then, right before Zheng Xiu’s eyes, Arturo casually ripped an arm from the corpse of an unlucky soldier on the ground. The motion was as effortless as tearing a leg from a roasted lamb.

’What is he doing?’

At this point, Arturo’s actions could no longer be described with a simple word like ’madness.’ The expression on his face—a calm composure born from wading through mountains of corpses and seas of blood, coexisting with utter insanity—filled Zheng Xiu with a terrible premonition.

Zheng Xiu could no longer see Arturo as a simple General of an Alien Race. Arturo was a Mystic, and Mystics were an elevated form of Miracle Master. They were more unreasonable, capable of ignoring the rules of the world to a certain degree and unleashing Miracle Techniques that defied all convention.

He knew he couldn’t allow Arturo to continue. Zheng Xiu took a deep breath, undid the pouch of Blood Sand at his waist, and flung its contents into the air.

"A Legend from the Human Realm..."

The howling winds were particularly fierce at the narrow mouth of the valley, and yet the Blood Sand, tossed into the sky, seemed to instantly solidify in the air... frozen in place.

"Sand Paint."

Ten years. Not even Xie Luohe knew just how deeply Zheng Xiu had delved into the Path of the Painter, having spent a full decade in the World in the Painting cultivating his Painting Skill. In truth, Zheng Xiu himself wasn’t entirely certain.

Time and again, he had entered the Path, pushing open one gate after another. Two years ago, during a dream-like trance, Zheng Xiu had pushed open the "Third Gate."

Just as the Seventh Gate on the Path is a critical threshold for a Miracle Master—one that brings about an earth-shattering transformation—the "scenery" Zheng Xiu found when he opened the Third Gate was something he would never forget.

Beyond the Third Gate, there was no longer a road.

Or rather, after pushing open the Third Gate, there was no road left on the Path.

It was a boundless abyss.

It was an abyss, a lake, a sea, a vast ocean.

Zheng Xiu didn’t know what lay beneath that fleeting glimpse of "endless darkness." He only knew there was no path forward.

But while there was no path, on the "far shore," a single gate stood tightly shut.

He had no path to reach it.

For the next two years, Zheng Xiu could still feel himself progressing, his Painting Skill constantly improving. Yet, he never had another chance to enter the Path and see what lay within, nor did he know where he was headed on a Path that no longer had a road.
