I'm Not Your Husband, You Evil Dragon!
Chapter 231: The Aura That Shouldn’t ExistLocation:- Liebus Agency
Place:- Corridor Toward Demon Captivity
Erza followed Sara through the underground corridors of the Liebus Agency, leaving the ruined training facility behind them.
Fiona, Captain Lily, and several elite soldiers followed a few meters behind, maintaining a careful distance from the two women.
Officially, the soldiers were there because their duty demanded that the Chief never move through a dangerous section of the headquarters without protection.
After everything they had witnessed in the training facility, however, none of them were foolish enough to believe they could actually protect Sara from Erza if something went wrong.
Sara walked several steps ahead, personally guiding Erza through the increasingly restricted sections of the underground facility.
Every few moments, however, her eyes quietly shifted toward the Dragon Queen behind her. Something about Erza had changed since she sensed the imprisoned demon’s aura.
The confidence and casual arrogance she had displayed inside the training facility were still there, but beneath them Sara could now see something else.
Concern.
Erza walked silently with one hand resting beneath her chin while the nail of her other hand occasionally touched her lips.
She continued sensing the unpleasant aura growing stronger with every floor they descended. At first, she had simply found it disgusting, but the closer she came to its source, the more familiar it began to feel.
That familiarity was precisely what troubled her.
How can this aura exist on Earth?
Erza kept the question to herself.
She wasn’t willing to reach a conclusion before seeing the demon with her own eyes. Perhaps she was mistaken.
Perhaps Earth’s demons simply possessed an aura resembling something she had encountered long ago.
Yet if her suspicion turned out to be correct, then everything she had assumed about this demonic war would have to be reconsidered.
Until now, Erza had considered Earth’s demons insignificant.
Their strength was laughable compared to the beings she had encountered throughout her life, and after witnessing the Agency struggle against them, she had assumed ending the war would be nothing more than an inconvenient task.
She could destroy their armies, eliminate their strongest warriors, and return to Yuuta without giving the matter another thought. However, the aura she was sensing now made that confidence waver for the first time.
If this really is what I think it is...
Erza’s expression darkened slightly.
Then this war may not be as simple as I believed.
Sara noticed the subtle change but wisely chose not to question her. Whatever had disturbed a being capable of reducing the entire Agency to helplessness wasn’t something Sara wanted to hear about while standing inside a narrow underground corridor.
She simply continued forward, passing one security checkpoint after another until the ordinary metallic walls of the Agency gradually changed into much thicker reinforced structures.
Eventually, the group reached the sixth underground floor.
The captured demon had been imprisoned several levels beneath the training facility inside one of the Agency’s highest-security containment sections. This particular area wasn’t designed merely to imprison demons.
It was an interrogation facility where captured members of demonkind were questioned, tortured when necessary, and forced to reveal information regarding their organizations, operations, and future attacks.
Much of what Sara knew about the demons had been gathered within these rooms, although their true purpose and ultimate goal had remained frustratingly unclear.
The group finally stopped before an enormous reinforced door.
Erza’s gaze immediately moved across its surface with mild curiosity. Compared to the technology she had seen elsewhere on Earth, this door was considerably more impressive. Several layers of unfamiliar metal had been compressed together, while additional defensive formations and electronic locking mechanisms covered its edges.
Even Erza found herself examining it for several seconds.
Interesting.
She lightly tapped one finger against the metal.
This might survive one of my casual strikes.
The thought almost made her smile, although she wasn’t curious enough to test it while everyone was standing nearby.
Fiona and Lily stopped farther behind while the elite soldiers immediately spread throughout the corridor according to protocol. Despite their movements, everyone’s attention remained focused on Erza.
Before Erza could examine it any further, a small light suddenly appeared from the security scanner mounted above the entrance.
The device rotated toward the group before an artificial male voice echoed through the corridor. Unlike the cold and professional security systems Erza had heard elsewhere in the Agency, this voice sounded strangely casual.
"High-restriction area detected. Please state your name and rank before attempting to enter. Failure to provide proper authorization will result in security being called to beat you."
Sara immediately pressed a hand against her forehead.
Of all the security systems that could have been assigned to this particular floor, it had to be Sunday.
Unlike Monday, whose programming was professional and reliable, Sunday had somehow developed into one of the strangest AIs inside the entire Agency.
Its software had been poorly configured during development, resulting in a security system that performed its duties properly while possessing an unnecessarily troublesome personality.
Erza’s violet eyes slowly narrowed as she looked toward the scanner.
Sara noticed immediately.
After everything that had happened inside the training facility, the last thing she wanted was for a broken security AI to accidentally insult the Dragon Queen and create another disaster.
"It’s me," she quickly said.
The scanner immediately shifted toward her.
"Me?"
Sunday paused for a moment.
"Didn’t your mother give you a name? I require your identity, not your philosophical understanding of yourself."
Sara’s eyebrow twitched.
"It’s me, you stupid machine! Your Chief! Sara!"
There was a brief silence.
Then Sunday’s voice suddenly changed.
"Ch-Ch-Chief?"
The scanner moved slightly as though the AI itself had become nervous.
"I mean... welcome, Chief Sara! Identity successfully recognized. It is truly an honor and an absolutely wonderful surprise to have you visiting the high-security containment area today."
Sara stared blankly at the scanner.
The sudden change in personality was almost impressive.
Beside her, Fiona lowered her gaze, desperately trying not to react, while Lily remained completely silent.
Even the elite soldiers standing several meters behind them seemed accustomed to Sunday’s behavior, although none of them were foolish enough to laugh while Sara was standing there.
Sara turned toward Erza and bowed her head apologetically.
"I apologize, My Queen. You should not have been subjected to such disrespectful behavior from one of our security systems. Sunday was created with several... unfortunate mistakes in its software, and correcting its personality has proven troublesome."
She cautiously looked at Erza again.
The Dragon Queen was still staring seriously at the scanner.
Sara immediately imagined the worst possible outcome.
"If its behavior has offended Your Majesty, I can have Sunday permanently removed after we leave this floor. There is no reason for you to tolerate its disrespect."
Erza remained silent for another moment before unexpectedly shaking her head.
"No. There is no need."
Sara looked at her in surprise.
Erza’s serious expression gradually softened as a faint smile appeared across her lips.
"In fact, I find it rather amusing."
Sara blinked.
"Amusing, Your Majesty?"
Erza gave a quiet nod.
"To speak so boldly without understanding the person standing before you requires an impressive degree of foolishness."
Her smile became slightly warmer as a familiar face appeared within her thoughts.
"It reminds me of someone."
Someone who had once spoken to her without understanding what she truly was.
Someone who had ignored titles, authority, bloodlines, and everything else Erza had grown accustomed to receiving from others.
A certain foolish human who somehow became her husband.
Sara remained silent, while Erza’s gaze became distant for a brief moment.
"He was just as foolish when I first met him" Erza said smiling as she think about it.
"He had absolutely no idea who he was speaking to, yet somehow he continued testing my patience as though his life meant nothing."
There was no need for Fiona to ask who Erza meant.
She already knew.
Yuuta.
Fiona immediately realized, but wisely kept her mouth shut.
For the first time since entering the containment floor, the troubled expression Erza had carried because of the mysterious demonic aura briefly disappeared.
However, the moment she turned back toward the massive security door, that faint warmth vanished and her attention returned to what waited beyond it.
Erza stepped toward the reinforced entrance as several locks inside the enormous structure began releasing one after another.
Sara moved closer behind her while Fiona, Lily, and the elite soldiers prepared to follow.
The casual atmosphere created by Sunday’s ridiculous behavior gradually disappeared as everyone remembered what was waiting beyond that door.
"Authorization confirmed," Sunday announced.
"Chief Sara and accompanying personnel have been granted access to the high-security containment area."
A heavy mechanical sound echoed through the corridor as the enormous reinforced door slowly began opening.
Metal locks withdrew into the surrounding walls while the two sections of the entrance separated, revealing the darkness of the containment area beyond.
Erza’s faint smile disappeared.
The disgusting aura she had been sensing became stronger the moment the door opened.
The enormous security door finally opened completely, revealing the containment area hidden beyond it.
Erza stepped inside behind Sara and immediately allowed her violet eyes to move across the unfamiliar surroundings.
The chamber was enormous, far larger than the corridor outside suggested, and nearly every section was filled with technology designed specifically for containing and interrogating demons.
Several mechanical arms hung from the ceiling, each equipped with different tools whose purposes were obvious even without explanation.
Countless cameras covered the walls, positioned so that almost no corner of the containment facility remained outside their view. Along one side of the chamber stood several reinforced glass containers containing demon corpses and preserved body parts recovered from previous operations.
Some were humanoid, while others belonged to creatures whose anatomy barely resembled anything Erza recognized.
It was less like a prison and more like a place built specifically to study, contain, and torture demonkind.
Sara stepped ahead without showing any reaction to the disturbing sights surrounding them.
She had walked through these halls countless times before, and everything displayed behind the reinforced glass had become part of the Agency’s endless war against demons.
Erza followed quietly behind her while Fiona, Lily, and the elite soldiers maintained their distance, their footsteps echoing through the cold metallic facility.
The deeper they traveled, the more restricted the containment area became.
Numerous interrogation rooms existed throughout the floor, each designed according to the danger level of the demon imprisoned inside.
Lesser demons required only reinforced cells and ordinary restraints, while higher-ranked creatures were placed behind increasingly complicated security systems capable of suppressing mana, physical strength, and supernatural abilities.
The demon they were approaching had been placed within the highest-security section.
Although the captured creature itself wasn’t among the strongest demons the Agency had ever encountered, its apparent connection to higher demons had immediately made it valuable.
Raven had risked capturing it alive specifically because killing it would have destroyed their opportunity to uncover information about the organization operating behind the recent child kidnappings and ritual sacrifices.
Erza’s eyes occasionally moved toward the preserved remains displayed throughout the facility, but none of them managed to hold her attention for long.
She had witnessed far worse things throughout her centuries of life. Battlefields filled with thousands of corpses, kingdoms destroyed by war, and creatures far more horrifying than anything preserved inside these containers had long since removed whatever shock such sights might have caused her.
More importantly, she hadn’t come here to admire humanity’s collection of dead demons.
She wanted this war finished.
The sooner Earth’s demonic threat disappeared, the sooner Yuuta could live without constantly being dragged into dangers he barely understood.
Erza knew his seal was already becoming increasingly unstable, and the last thing she wanted was another outside threat pushing him toward powers he wasn’t prepared to control. If she could eliminate the demons threatening this world, then at least one danger surrounding her husband would disappear.
After that, when the time finally came for her to return to Atlantis, she could leave Earth knowing Yuuta and Fiona weren’t surrounded by enemies waiting for an opportunity to harm them.
Sara eventually slowed her footsteps.
"We’re here, My Queen."
They had reached the interrogation section.
The atmosphere immediately changed as several reinforced barriers separated them from the room ahead. This was where captured demons were questioned regarding future attacks, hidden bases, planned rituals, and whatever information the Agency believed could prevent another disaster.
When ordinary interrogation failed, considerably harsher methods were used, something the equipment surrounding the room made painfully obvious.
Beyond the reinforced observation glass was a completely white chamber illuminated by powerful lights.
A single figure sat at its center.
Erza stopped.
For the first time since entering the containment facility, her complete attention settled upon something.
The so-called salesman demon.
Its appearance immediately made Erza narrow her eyes.
It looked human.
If she had encountered it somewhere on the streets without knowing what it truly was, there was very little about its outward appearance that would have immediately revealed its demonic nature.
The demon sat motionless upon a reinforced chair, both arms restrained tightly while additional chains wrapped around its waist and legs, securing its entire body to the structure beneath it.
Erza’s attention shifted toward the restraints.
Something was different about them.
Her violet eyes narrowed further as she carefully examined the chains surrounding the demon. Faint energy continuously moved across their surface, almost invisible beneath the intense white lights of the interrogation chamber.
"...Magic."
Erza’s expression became more serious.
Those weren’t ordinary restraints created through Earth’s technology.
The chains were radiating magic.
Erza continued staring at the restraints surrounding the demon, her earlier curiosity slowly turning into genuine disbelief. The faint energy flowing across those chains might have been difficult for everyone else to notice, but there was no possibility of Erza mistaking it.
She had encountered that power countless times throughout her long life, and it certainly wasn’t something that should naturally exist on Earth.
"...Holy chains."
Her voice became quieter as she studied them more carefully.
"On Earth...?"
Sara immediately stepped closer after hearing her.
"Yes, My Queen. Those are holy chains. Ordinary restraints are nearly useless against higher-ranked demons, especially those capable of manipulating mana or changing their physical bodies. These chains suppress their demonic power and prevent them from escaping."
Erza slowly turned her head toward Sara.
"No. That isn’t what I’m asking."
The seriousness in her voice immediately made Sara straighten her posture.
"I asked how you possess holy power on this planet."
Erza gestured toward the restraints without taking her eyes away from Sara.
"This isn’t some technology your people accidentally created. Holy power originates from Nova. Earth is a world abandoned by the gods, a world that shouldn’t even possess enough mana to naturally produce such power, yet somehow your Agency is using it to restrain demons."
For several seconds, Sara remained silent before slowly shaking her head.
"Your Majesty is correct. We didn’t create this power ourselves."
That answer immediately caught Erza’s attention.
Sara continued carefully.
"The holy power comes from someone we call the Holy Saint. She possesses divine power unlike anything our researchers have been able to reproduce. Over the years, she has poured portions of that power into our weapons and restraints, allowing us to create equipment capable of harming and containing demons."
"Holy Saint...?"
Erza repeated the title as though testing the words.
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
"Who is she?"
Sara lowered her head respectfully before answering.
"The Holy Saint is one of the most important figures supporting humanity’s war against demonkind. Much of our understanding of demons came from the knowledge she provided, and many of the weapons currently capable of affecting higher demons exist because of her assistance. Without her divine power, capturing creatures like the one before us would have been considerably more difficult."
Erza remained silent as she absorbed the information.
"Interesting..."
A strange smile slowly appeared across her face.
"I came here believing this planet knew almost nothing about Nova, yet the longer I remain inside your Agency, the more secrets I discover."
Her gaze returned to the glowing chains.
A person capable of producing genuine holy power couldn’t simply be dismissed as some unusual human. Either this so-called Holy Saint had somehow learned to wield a power that shouldn’t naturally exist on Earth, or she wasn’t truly from Earth in the first place.
Both possibilities interested Erza.
Before she could question Sara further, Sunday’s voice suddenly echoed through the observation room.
"Chief. Chief."
Sara looked toward the nearest speaker.
"What?"
"The demon is awake, Chief."
Sunday delivered the announcement so casually that Fiona briefly glanced toward the ceiling in disbelief. Sara ignored the AI’s tone and immediately turned toward the interrogation chamber.
The demon’s head moved.
Until now, the salesman demon had remained completely motionless against the reinforced chair, almost resembling a corpse beneath the harsh white lights. Slowly, however, its head began rising. The chains surrounding its wrists immediately reacted, holy energy flowing across their surface as the prisoner’s body awakened.
Then the demon started laughing.
"Heh..."
Its shoulders trembled.
"Hehehe..."
The laughter rapidly grew louder.
"HEEHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
The atmosphere inside the interrogation chamber immediately changed. An invisible pressure spread from the demon’s body, causing the air surrounding it to visibly distort. The reinforced observation glass began vibrating while the lights above the prisoner flickered repeatedly, forcing Fiona and Lily to instinctively tense.
Erza didn’t move.
Instead, a smile slowly appeared across her face.
She had finally confirmed it.
The unsettling familiarity she had sensed from several floors away wasn’t her imagination. Now that the demon had released its aura without hiding anything, Erza could recognize the nature of that power clearly.
"So I wasn’t mistaken..."
Sara slowly looked toward her.
Erza’s violet eyes remained fixed upon the laughing demon as her expression became increasingly serious. The confidence she had possessed when first deciding to involve herself in humanity’s demonic war was beginning to disappear, replaced by the realization that something far greater was hiding behind Earth’s demons.
"That aura really exists here."
Her smile faded.
"Then this isn’t going to be a simple war."
Erza continued watching the demon as countless possibilities passed through her mind.
"If what I’m sensing is truly connected to what I think it is..."
Her violet eyes narrowed.
"...then this war may eventually become a war between worlds."
