I'm Not Your Husband, You Evil Dragon!

Chapter 269: Tonight, Humanity Fights Back

Location: Liebus Agency

Place: War Hall

Deep within the Liebus Agency existed a chamber that most of its personnel had never entered.

The War Hall was located within one of the most heavily protected sections of the headquarters, sealed behind multiple reinforced gates and layers of defensive technology. It wasn’t designed for ordinary briefings, criminal investigations or even the occasional demon attack. The hall existed for situations in which an entire city, country or humanity’s defensive structure could be threatened at once.

For many years, its doors had remained closed.

Today, they were open.

The enormous circular hall was already crowded by the time the final personnel began arriving. Thousands of Agency members filled the descending rows surrounding the central command platform, but unlike an ordinary gathering, everyone had been separated according to rank and responsibility. Officers moved quickly between sections, checking names and distributing assignments while the enormous tactical displays surrounding the chamber slowly came online.

The atmosphere alone told everyone that this wasn’t going to be another mission.

At the lowest operational level sat the Field Support Division, personnel who normally remained behind the front lines but became indispensable during large-scale conflicts.

Medical teams occupied several rows, organized into numbered squads such as Medical Units One through Twelve, with each unit consisting of combat medics, healers and evacuation personnel responsible for retrieving injured agents from active battle zones.

Near them waited the Cognitive Recovery Division, better known throughout the Agency as the Mind Eraser Teams. Their responsibility began after supernatural battles ended.

They contained civilian witnesses, erased dangerous supernatural memories when necessary and prevented mass panic from spreading throughout the population.

The Urban Recovery Corps occupied another section of the hall. Repair engineers, structural specialists and emergency workers had already begun studying maps of Yuno City and the surrounding regions.

If demons reached populated areas, these teams would enter immediately after combat units secured each sector, controlling fires, stabilizing damaged buildings, reopening roads and preventing the destruction caused by battle from killing more civilians than the demons themselves.

Alongside them waited the Agency’s cleanup personnel. Despite being jokingly called the Cleaners by field agents, their work was far from ordinary.

They removed demonic remains, contaminated blood, cursed objects and supernatural residue left behind after battles, making certain that whatever the combat teams killed didn’t create another disaster afterward.

Above the support divisions sat the Agency’s actual combat hierarchy.

The largest group consisted of Grade-Five and Grade-Four Officers, the lower-ranking field agents who formed the backbone of the organization. Most would never be ordered to confront powerful demons directly.

Their role during a city-level emergency was evacuation, perimeter control, civilian protection and eliminating lesser creatures that slipped past the primary battlefront.

The Grade-Three Officers occupied the rows above them.

These were experienced combat agents who had survived enough missions to operate independently and would serve as squad leaders once the Agency divided its forces throughout the city.

Beyond them sat the Grade-Two and Grade-One Officers, veteran agents trusted with high-risk supernatural threats.

Conversations were considerably quieter within those rows. Most of them understood that if the battle deteriorated badly enough for their entire ranks to be deployed simultaneously, Yuno City would already be facing destruction on a scale few of them had witnessed.

Then came the Elite Division.

These agents didn’t wear the nervous expressions visible among many of the lower ranks. They sat quietly with weapons resting beside them, some checking ammunition while others simply watched the tactical displays.

Elite agents existed specifically to confront enemies ordinary officers couldn’t handle, and during war, they would become the Agency’s mobile strike force.

One section, however, remained noticeably separated from everyone else.

The Shadow Crow Unit.

Raven’s personal force occupied the darkest section of the War Hall, their black uniforms making them immediately distinguishable from the other divisions. They specialized in infiltration, assassination, reconnaissance and missions that officially never happened. Even several elite officers avoided looking toward them for too long.

Yet despite the hundreds gathered inside the chamber, five positions remained more important than all the others.

At the front of the War Hall stood five elevated stations reserved for the Agency’s Captains.

Everyone occasionally looked toward them.

The Captain positions.

Then a calm mechanical voice echoed throughout the chamber.

Monday had begun announcing arrivals.

"Command authority recognized. Captain-level personnel approaching War Hall."

The conversations throughout the room immediately became quieter.

The massive reinforced doors opened.

A woman stepped through first.

"Identity confirmed. Captain Fiona Phoenix, Special Assault Division. Welcome to the War Hall."

Fiona entered with a calm expression, although the unusual seriousness in her eyes immediately distinguished today from an ordinary captain meeting. Several officers instinctively straightened as she passed them, while Fiona ignored the attention and continued toward the elevated command platform.

Monday spoke again moments later.

"Identity confirmed. Captain Lily, Arcane Support Division. Welcome to the War Hall."

Lily entered shortly afterward, and despite being the youngest among the five captains, nobody inside the chamber treated her arrival casually. She moved toward her assigned position while quietly observing the enormous number of personnel gathered beneath the platform.

Then the doors opened again.

This time, several officers immediately noticed the bandages.

"Identity confirmed. Captain Elga, Heavy Combat Division. Welcome to the War Hall."

Elga walked inside with part of her torso and one arm wrapped beneath fresh bandages. The injuries were remnants of her confrontation with Erza, and although the medical department had strongly advised additional recovery, the approaching threat had left little room for rest.

Her expression made it clear that anyone suggesting she return to bed would probably require medical treatment themselves.

She reached the platform before glancing toward Fiona.

"Don’t look at me like that. I can still fight."

Fiona sighed.

"I didn’t say anything."

"Your face did."

A few nearby officers immediately pretended they hadn’t heard them.

Monday’s voice interrupted before the exchange could continue.

"Identity confirmed. Captain Erika Hemut, White Wing Division. Welcome to the War Hall."

Erika entered considerably more slowly than usual.

Bandages remained visible around her shoulder and beneath portions of her uniform, while another strip crossed part of her side. Like Elga, she hadn’t completely recovered from fighting Erza, but refusing an emergency summons during a city-level threat had never entered her mind.

Elga glanced at her injuries.

"You look terrible."

Erika gave her a flat stare.

"You’re covered in bandages."

"Mine look better."

"Please stop talking."

Even within the tense War Hall, several officers had to suppress their reactions.

Then the atmosphere changed.

The reinforced doors opened for the fifth time.

Monday’s voice remained equally calm, but almost every member of the Special Operations Teams turned toward the entrance before the announcement had even finished.

"Identity confirmed. Captain Raven, Shadow Crow Division. Welcome to the War Hall."

Raven walked through the doors wearing her usual dark uniform, with several members of Shadow Crow following behind her before separating toward their assigned section. She offered no greeting to the hundreds of officers watching her and immediately began studying the tactical displays surrounding the command platform.

Five captains now stood together at the front of the War Hall.

Fiona Phoenix, Lily, Elga, Erika Hemut and Raven represented the highest combat authority beneath the Chief herself, and for many of the younger officers gathered among the thousands filling the enormous chamber, simply seeing all five captains summoned at the same time was more frightening than the emergency announcement that had brought them here.

Normally, one captain was enough to handle a serious supernatural incident.

Today, the Agency had called all five.

The realization quickly created nervous murmuring among the younger batches. With nearly ten thousand personnel from different branches packed throughout the War Hall, maintaining complete silence was practically impossible, especially when nobody below the higher ranks had been properly informed about what they were preparing to face.

"What the hell is going on?" one young officer whispered while looking across the seemingly endless rows surrounding him. "All five captains are here, and there must be close to ten thousand people inside this hall. Medical, cleanup, repair, Elite Officers... they called almost everyone."

The officer beside him nervously adjusted the weapon hanging from his waist before glancing toward the sealed entrances.

"Doesn’t this feel like we’re preparing for an actual war? I’ve been in the Agency for almost two years, and I’ve never even been allowed near the War Hall before."

Another young woman sitting behind them immediately leaned forward after hearing that.

"Can you two stop saying things like that? You’re making it sound like we’re all going to die."

"What are you talking about? Look around you." The first officer lowered his voice even further, afraid that one of the senior officers might hear them.

"This is the War Hall. They don’t open this place because someone spotted three demons wandering around Yuno City. Something huge must be happening if they’re gathering this many people."

The nervous woman looked around again, and this time she couldn’t find an argument.

Everywhere she looked, she saw personnel preparing for completely different stages of a large-scale battle.

Medical teams were organizing emergency equipment, repair specialists were studying city maps, Elite Officers were checking weapons, and even the mysterious Shadow Crow members had gathered near the front.

Still, another young officer refused to let the fear spread through their group.

"Even if something huge is happening, we’re probably safer than you think. The Chief is here, all five captains are here, and look at how many Elite Officers they gathered. Whatever is coming would have to be completely insane to fight the entire Agency at once."

His words calmed the others slightly, until his gaze wandered toward the command platform and landed on Elga and Erika.

The bandages were impossible to miss.

"Wait... look at Captain Elga and Captain Erika."

Several heads subtly turned in the same direction.

The young officer lowered his voice.

"So the rumors were true."

"What rumors?"

"You seriously didn’t hear?" He leaned closer to the others before continuing. "People were saying Captain Elga and Captain Erika fought some new Supreme Ruler yesterday. Apparently, both of them were defeated."

The young woman immediately looked toward him in disbelief.

"Both captains? By one person?"

"That’s what everyone has been saying. I thought it was nonsense at first, but look at them. Captain Elga’s arm is still bandaged, and Captain Erika doesn’t exactly look like she walked away untouched either."

Another officer stared toward the two captains with growing curiosity. The younger generation had heard countless stories about Supreme Rulers, but most of those beings existed so far beyond ordinary Agency missions that encountering one personally seemed almost impossible.

"Then who was she?"

"I don’t know. That’s the strange part." The young officer frowned as he tried remembering everything he had heard. "Nobody seems willing to say her name. Some people were saying she appeared inside headquarters, others said she fought several captains, and someone from the night shift swore the entire building nearly froze because of her."

"You’re exaggerating."

"I’m telling you what I heard."

Before their argument could continue, Monday’s artificial voice suddenly echoed throughout the War Hall.

"Attention. Supreme Agency authority approaching."

The murmuring throughout the chamber immediately weakened.

Then Monday continued.

"Identity confirmed. Chief Sara Venom, Founderof the Liebus Agency."

A brief pause followed before the second identification rang throughout the enormous chamber.

"Identity confirmed. Holy Saint Mary, Humanity’s Saint and Savior of the Liebus Agency."

This time, the reaction was immediate.

Nearly ten thousand personnel rose from their seats in waves. Conversations disappeared as officers, medical personnel and specialized units straightened themselves, while even the younger recruits who had been whispering moments earlier immediately corrected their posture.

The enormous reinforced doors opened.

Sara entered first.

Her long violet hair flowed behind her as she walked into the War Hall with the composed authority expected from the woman commanding the entire Agency. Whatever exhaustion or uncertainty she had shown outside this chamber was nowhere to be seen now. In front of her soldiers, Sara Venom was once again their Chief.

Yet the woman walking beside her drew just as much attention.

Sister Mary’s golden hair was carefully tied behind her, while the white-and-gold robes covering her body concealed the elven features that humanity was never supposed to discover. Her pointed ears remained hidden, and the gentle expression upon her face seemed almost strangely peaceful compared with the thousands of armed personnel surrounding her.

Some of the youngest officers had never seen her personally before.

They knew her from history.

They knew her from Agency records.

They knew the title humanity had given the mysterious woman who appeared during its darkest conflict against demons and helped establish the organization that continued protecting them today.

The moment Sara and Sister Mary reached the entrance of the War Hall, the thousands gathered inside lowered their heads together.

"WE WELCOME THE CHIEF!"

Their voices thundered through the enormous chamber before another declaration followed with even greater reverence.

"WE WELCOME HUMANITY’S SAVIOR, THE HOLY SAINT!"

The sheer force of thousands of voices speaking together caused the hall itself to seem to tremble.

Sara continued forward without breaking her authoritative expression, while Sister Mary offered the gathered personnel a small nod of acknowledgment. Behind the two women, the reinforced doors slowly closed, followed by the heavy sound of multiple security locks sealing the War Hall from the rest of the Agency.

Now, everyone who had been summoned was finally here.

Thousands of people filled the enormous chamber from one end to the other.

From newly recruited officers standing nervously among their batches to veterans who had spent years hunting demons, from medical personnel preparing themselves to receive the wounded to the cleanup and repair divisions that would follow behind the destruction, nearly every branch of the Liebus Agency had answered the emergency summons.

Elite Officers occupied the forward sections, Shadow Crow waited silently beneath Raven’s command, and above them stood all five captains who represented the greatest combat strength the Agency could mobilize.

Looking across them, there was no longer any way to pretend this was another mission.

This was war.

Sister Mary slowly surveyed the enormous gathering, but instead of reassurance, an uncomfortable feeling settled deeper inside her heart. She could already sense the demons moving closer from across the ocean, and somewhere among those countless presences existed something far more disturbing than the others.

Yet that wasn’t what worried her most.

This war would be led by Erza Veyla Dragomir herself.

Sister Mary knew the Dragon Queen well enough to understand what those words truly meant. Erza didn’t approach battle the way humans did, calculating how much destruction was acceptable before deciding whether to retreat. Once she identified something as an enemy worth destroying, the battlefield itself could become secondary to eliminating it.

If the demons truly possessed something powerful enough to make Erza personally interested in joining the battle, Sister Mary couldn’t imagine what Liebus would look like by the time the night ended.

Sara, meanwhile, had stopped near the center of the command platform.

From there, she could see almost everyone.

Thousands of faces looked back at her.

For the first time since becoming Chief, the sheer number of people gathered under her command didn’t make Sara feel powerful. Instead, an unexpected heaviness settled inside her chest as her violet eyes slowly traveled across the enormous War Hall.

Some were barely adults.

Others were veterans old enough to have children waiting for them at home. Some carried expensive supernatural weapons while others wore the simpler equipment issued to ordinary field officers, yet every one of them had answered when the Agency called.

Sara knew what would happen to many of those faces once the fighting began.

Some wouldn’t see tomorrow’s sunrise.

Some would return without an arm or a leg.

Some families would spend tonight waiting for someone who would never walk through their front door again.

The thought left a bitter feeling inside her.

Sara had commanded people into dangerous operations before, but this was different. A commander could look at a tactical report and accept that sacrificing a few hundred lives to save several million was reasonable. The calculation was simple when those lives existed only as numbers written across a screen.

Standing before them was different.

Numbers didn’t have frightened eyes.

Numbers didn’t have families.

Numbers didn’t stand before their commander while desperately pretending they weren’t afraid to die.

Sara’s gaze moved toward one of the younger sections, where several newly recruited officers stood beside veterans nearly twice their age. She could see fear among them, but beneath that fear existed something else that had been growing throughout the Agency for years.

Anger.

Hatred.

Revenge.

Nearly everyone inside this chamber had lost something to demons.

A friend.

A partner.

A parent.

A child.

Some had joined the Agency because they wanted to protect humanity, while others had entered because there was someone they could no longer protect. Different generations stood together now, but when Sara looked into their eyes, she saw the same exhaustion with an era in which humanity had spent far too long being hunted.

Tonight, those thousands of people weren’t merely waiting for orders.

They were waiting to fight back.

Sara’s expression softened without her realizing it.

For one brief moment, she wasn’t the ancient vampire who had survived centuries of bloodshed or the Chief expected to make cold decisions for the sake of millions.

She was simply looking at the people she was about to send into war.

Sister Mary noticed immediately.

She had seen that expression before.

Without drawing attention from the thousands watching them, Sister Mary gently placed one hand upon Sara’s shoulder. The small touch pulled Sara away from the thoughts consuming her, and when she glanced sideways, Sister Mary didn’t offer some grand speech about sacrifice or responsibility.

She merely looked at her.

That was enough.

Sara slowly inhaled before releasing the breath through her nose. Whatever sadness had appeared within her violet eyes disappeared behind the colder composure expected from the Chief of the Liebus Agency, while her shoulders straightened and her attention returned to the thousands waiting before her.

The murmuring throughout the War Hall gradually faded as everyone noticed the change in their Chief’s expression.

Sara stepped forward, allowing her gaze to travel across the thousands gathered inside the War Hall. She looked from the lowest-ranking field officers to the veterans standing among them, then toward the Elite divisions, Shadow Crow and finally the five captains waiting near the front.

When she spoke, she didn’t shout.

She didn’t need to.

"The demonic army has crossed our border."
