I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World
Chapter 78: The Witch Tower (Golden ticket bonus)The Witch Conclave, or the Witch Tower, as people commonly called it, was the place where all high Trial Witches gathered, the place that governed everything.
It was where every known spell was collected and recorded, where the first knowledge of any discovered or undiscovered new place was sent, and where the most powerful potions, artifacts, and everything else came from.
Among its duties was keeping track of Witches’ Trials.
Last time, Seraphina had used her connections in the tower to shorten Faye’s trial from three years down to one, and had assigned her the task of killing a red lizard.
But this time she didn’t have enough power to decide alone. A higher Trial Witch needed to get involved and make the final call.
"I heard they’re all arrogant, full of themselves types." Titus, sitting in his chair, suddenly felt restless and stood up, starting to pace.
Having someone of high authority from the Tower come to their territory was, in modern Earth terms, something like a company getting inspected by the finance ministry.
Everything the Winterborne family owned, all their hidden dealings, all their investments, was about to be checked.
That included Magna.
It was inevitable that whoever came would ask who this unregistered Shadow candidate was.
"What do you think, will there be any trouble over him?" Titus sat back down, an uneasy feeling rising inside him.
He wasn’t sure what they would think, or do, once they learned Magna was an abandoned child from an ancient family.
Even more so, he was the one who had gone and saved Faye from the hands of that powerful Witch.
That alone was the kind of thing that could catch everyone’s attention.
As a Shadow himself, Titus knew exactly what kind of place the Tower was for people like himself.
In his eyes, their training programs for Shadows were training only in name. He knew well that every year, hundreds of candidates died there, unable to endure the harsh conditions and the training they were forced to complete.
"I don’t know." Celeste, wanting to keep Magna hidden as much as possible, found herself caught in the same dilemma.
If the tower decided he was worthy and chose to take him to be raised there, there would be nothing they could do about it.
"For now all we can do is wait and see," she exhaled, turning her tired eyes toward Faye.
She was still sleeping peacefully, completely unaware of what had happened or what was still to come.

Under the morning light of the rising sun, a large carriage pulled by muscular red horses made its way down the dirt road.
Every place it passed drew startled glances from the villagers, followed quickly by awe and respect the moment they spotted the red insignia carved onto its side.
The Cinder family had packed quickly and set out the moment they heard the news about their missing family member. Only now, under the morning sun, were they finally entering Winterborne territory.
Inside the carriage sat two women with nearly identical features, crimson hair and eyes marking their noble appearance, though the gap in their ages was quite clear.
The younger one looked to be in her late teens, or perhaps her early twenties.
She wore a red family robe that showed off the lines of her body finely, and a Witch hat covered half her face as she sat in silence. It was hard to tell what she was thinking, or even whether she was awake or asleep.
Across from her sat the older, more mature woman, her face clearly showing she had passed forty, maybe reaching her early fifties, though her crimson eyes looked like a book filled with centuries.
Even though she had just learned her daughter was dead and was on her way to retrieve her body, she didn’t look sorrowful. Instead, plenty of anger could be seen on her slightly wrinkled face.
That was to be expected. Learning that her daughter, who had been missing for months, had been killed by another Witch and turned into a skeleton wasn’t easy news for anyone.
It was especially hard for the Cinder family, known for their short tempers.
"Faceless Witch..." she muttered in her aged voice, hatred lacing the name Celeste had written in her letter.
She wasn’t going there just to retrieve her daughter’s remains. She meant to kill that Witch too.
As she silently burned with rage, the air inside the carriage began to grow hot, and even the horses pulling it outside started to grow restless.
"Grandmother, relax, you’re making the horses uncomfortable." The young Witch sitting across from her lifted her head slightly, revealing her flawless, fair face and the crimson eyes beneath it.
The eye-catching silver earrings lining her ears, along with the star-shaped mark just beneath her right eye that looked like a red stain, completed her beauty perfectly.
Hearing her granddaughter’s voice, the old Witch finally seemed to come back to herself. She let out a sigh as the heat in the air slowly began to fade.
"Renna." She looked at her young face fondly. "Don’t worry, my child. I promise you, I will take revenge for your mother."
Hearing her words, Renna didn’t answer. She only lowered her head again in her seat, hiding half her face and her crimson eyes once more.
Beneath the wide hat, her eyes were burning with the same rage as it was clear that whatever revenge came, she had no intention of leaving it in anyone else’s hands.

Magna slept so long that it wasn’t until sunlight filled his room, and a knock came at his door, that he finally opened his eyes.
"Who is it?" he called out without getting up from bed, still feeling too exhausted to move.
He hadn’t even eaten his usual dinner the night before, since he’d fallen asleep almost instantly, and now he barely felt like he had the strength to get out of bed at all.
Thankfully, the person at the door was exactly who he most wanted to see.
"Young Lord, I brought your breakfast."
Magna sat up in bed right away and called out. "Yes, come in, please."
He was more than starving at this point, his stomach aching from the emptiness.
On top of that, the freezing sensation spreading through his body from his low mana reserve was making him feel like he was dying from some chronic illness.
As the maid pushed the trolley to the middle of the room, she said, "Lady Celeste wanted me to let you know that after breakfast, you should come to her study to see her."
Magna wasn’t even listening. He pushed himself out of bed and dove straight into the food.
Realizing he hadn’t heard her, the maid repeated herself with a small laugh.
Only once she saw him nod did she leave the room.
Magna ate like there was no tomorrow, mixing everything together without even looking at what he was putting in his mouth. Only when suddenly a bit of Gaia’s text caught the corner of his eye did he stop.
[You consumed Golden Sunberry...]
[Energy particles detected...]
[Converting nutrients into mana...]
"Huh?" Magna looked down at what he was holding in his hand and found a round yellow fruit, half bitten into.
This was the mana-rich food he had gone into the forest hoping to find yesterday, right before everything else happened.
He hadn’t managed to find a single one, which had felt like a huge failure at the time, but now, somehow, the fruit seemed to have found its own way to him like a play of fate.
Magna stared at the bitten fruit for a moment, trying to figure out where it had come from.
It was at that moment that his room’s door opened again, and the reason for its appearance walked in with a wide grin on her face.
