Immortal Cultivation: Starting from a Pharmacy Apprentice
Chapter 213: Introducing a New OrderChapter 213: Chapter 213: Introducing a New Order
Three days later, the disciples of Divine Dao Mountain gathered in Bai Mo’s living room.
Qin Wen served tea to each of them one by one.
Judging by his technique, it seemed he had specifically learned how, but he wasn’t proficient yet.
One of the senior brothers looked at him and said with a laugh:
"Why be so formal? Just be casual. We prefer things a bit more relaxed."
Back in the sect, they had to serve various eccentric figures, always following strict rules and unable to act freely.
Now that they were outside, they naturally didn’t want to be so constrained.
Qin Wen didn’t say anything, but his movements became less deliberate. He quickly finished pouring their tea and then withdrew.
"Senior Brothers, you returned so quickly?"
As Bai Mo spoke, he took out a pill bottle and poured out a red-and-yellow Pill.
"We were in Celestial Barrier Mountain, not too far in. We rushed back as soon as we got the message."
While they spoke, their eyes were fixed on the Pill sitting on the soft cushion.
"So this is the finished Pill that Junior Brother is so confident about?"
Bai Mo nodded. "That’s right."
’It should be more or less what the Pill Formula described. Even if there are differences, they won’t be significant.’
"By the way, have you tested the Pills you took from me before? How effective were they?"
One of the senior brothers picked up the Pill from the table, examining it in his hand as he spoke:
"There was nothing special about them. They just had a calming effect on the spirit, which allowed them to attract some residual souls that were about to dissipate."
"We tried all three, and they were all the same."
This result was just as Bai Mo had expected.
"This one is different, though. Senior Brothers, you can go ahead and try it."
"Alright! But... there’s only one Pill?"
Bai Mo nodded.
"Correct. However, it can be used repeatedly. At most, it can burn for about a quarter of an hour."
"Senior Brothers, just test it briefly. Don’t use it for too long."
...
Bai Mo didn’t know how they tested it, but in any case, they returned at noon.
The senior brothers looked very excited. They pushed a cloth pouch toward Bai Mo.
"Junior Brother, you fronted the cost for many of our medicinal ingredients and expended so much effort. We are truly grateful."
Bai Mo took the pouch. Judging by its weight, he guessed there were over three hundred Spirit Stones inside.
A piece of bone was then pushed in front of Bai Mo.
"This is a fragmented text from an unknown sect. It’s said to have the effect of refining Divine Thought. We’re giving it to you as well, Junior Brother Bai,"
the Divine Dao Mountain senior brother said.
"But a fragment is just a fragment. Very few people have ever successfully mastered this technique."
"If you can’t manage it, Junior Brother, you can just use the bone piece as a medicinal ingredient. It’s quite old and of excellent quality, so its medicinal properties should be potent."
Bai Mo picked up the bone piece and studied it for a moment. Sure enough, he saw minuscule characters carved onto its surface.
"Alright, I’ll accept it."
The disciples from Divine Dao Mountain were very pleased. They exchanged a look, then turned to Bai Mo and asked:
"Practice makes perfect. Now that you’ve refined this Pill once, Junior Brother, you must be even more confident, right?"
Bai Mo could clearly see the craving in their eyes, but unfortunately, he was completely out of materials.
"The main ingredient for this Pill was the ’qi of human thought,’ a gift from a senior outside the city."
"This item is crucial. Without it, the Pill cannot be made."
Bai Mo spread his hands.
"Even a master craftsman can’t work without materials. I no longer have any of it."
All the senior brothers of the Xuandao Sect were now aware of the old man in the tree stump outside the city.
The men before him pondered for a moment before one said decisively:
"No matter. We’ll figure out a way to get it. If we can’t find it out here, we’ll look for it back at the sect!"
"We just hope that when we come asking for your help in the future, you won’t refuse."
"Of course, of course."
After talking for a while longer, Bai Mo saw them out.
Before leaving, one of the senior brothers picked up a wooden sculpture from outside. It was the size of a human head and bizarrely carved with multiple hands, heads, and feet, appearing to be a mix of human and demon.
It was a trophy they had acquired while testing the Pill.
Bai Mo had asked about it. They said it was a grotesque fusion of human and Demon Beast residual souls from the Celestial Barrier Mountain range.
They had lured this thing out of the mountains and sealed it inside the wooden sculpture.
As Bai Mo watched them leave, his gaze lingered on the wooden sculpture for a moment. In a daze, he felt as if the carving were alive.
He let out a breath.
After seeing off the senior brothers from Divine Dao Mountain, Bai Mo could finally relax.
He took out the bone piece and examined it closely.
’No wonder the Pill Masters rumored about in the marketplace are never short on cash.’
’If I weren’t so ambitious and just relied on my current Alchemy Skill, I could live a life of drunken indulgence.’
Unfortunately, he was fated to never stop moving forward.
Any senior brother who came knocking offered a price that wasn’t too low, and Bai Mo didn’t have the nerve to refuse.
Bai Mo didn’t even have the heart to haggle with them, simply accepting the job as long as the offer was reasonable.
Now that he had a moment of peace, Bai Mo took out a booklet. On it was a list of names.
Lanshan’s name was at the very top. A closer look revealed a total of eighteen people on the list.
Bai Mo waved Qin Wen over.
"Do you have anyone to recommend? Preferably someone you know well, with solid skills."
Qin Wen knew what this list was for. Everyone on it was a candidate to enter the Xuandao Sect’s Jade Plate Secret Realm.
A look of envy, followed by a hint of gloom, flickered in his eyes.
"In the past, I would have definitely recommended myself, but I can’t now."
Qin Wen said quietly, a thoughtful expression on his face.
"I do know a Cultivator, though. His skills don’t have much killing power, but he has plenty of ways to save his own skin."
Bai Mo’s eyes lit up.
"Tell me about him, quickly."
’They’re all Loose Cultivators, so why would they need killing power? The sect just wants them to scout the path.’
"But his character needs to be decent. Otherwise, he’ll just cause trouble for us."
Qin Wen naturally understood.
"Of course. Otherwise, how could I dare recommend him to you?"
Bai Mo refocused on the list. Between the various Demon Hunting Teams, gathering thirty people would be easy enough.
The difficult part was ensuring their character was reliable, which was what took more time.
Now that he had filled the slots for people he owed favors to, he had to find the rest himself.
After spending four days, Bai Mo finally completed the list and headed up to Mountain View Tower.
An Caiwei was still there. When she received Bai Mo’s list, her eyes lit up.
"This is the first time I’ve handled an external affair and completed it all on my own!"
"Are the people on this list reliable?"
Bai Mo guaranteed, "Most are acquaintances. As for the rest, I’ve made inquiries about all of them."
"Their character and skills are both solid. They are extremely capable Cultivators who spend all year dealing with Demon Beasts in the mountains."
An Caiwei said gleefully:
"Tell them that I’ll bring them to the sect next July."
"Alright."
Bai Mo sat down in a nearby chair and casually poured himself a cup of tea.
Before the tea reached his lips, he heard An Caiwei speak:
"By the way, I have two business deals for you. Are you interested?"
"If there are Spirit Stones to be earned, of course I’m interested. What kind of Pills need to be refined?"
Bai Mo looked at An Caiwei.
She had many friends in the sect with whom she often interacted, and all of them had a considerable demand for Pills.
An Caiwei said:
"They’re Pills that protect against fire poison and cold qi. A lot of my friends need them."
"Those with connections have already prepared Daoist robes that ward off fire and water. My friends weren’t prepared, so they have to seek help from Arrays and Pills."
With the Jade Plate Secret Realm trial approaching, business opportunities were everywhere in the sect.
Bai Mo thought for a moment and asked:
"Do you have a Pill Formula?"
"No, you’ll have to provide your own."
An Caiwei added as a reminder, "It’s a big order, worth two hundred Spirit Stones!"
Bai Mo pondered for a moment.
"That is a bit troublesome. The simple Pills available on the market probably won’t be suitable."
"Junior Sister, please give me some time to think. I’ll give you an answer tomorrow..."
