Chapter 237: Chapter 237: Mass Production of Pills

The Spirit Beast descended directly into Immortal Arrival City.

It was early morning, just before the sun had risen, and the street vendors outside were already starting to appear one by one.

"Brother, how about we get some breakfast together?"

Bai Mo offered.

The disciple driving the Spirit Beast gave a wry smile and patted the beast beside him.

"I still have to take care of this big fella. I don’t know if I’ve been neglecting it or what, but it hasn’t been too fond of me lately..."

Hearing this, Bai Mo had no choice but to leave by himself.

Since he had come to the Beast Firm, Bai Mo thought he would stop by and pay a visit to Hou Mingsheng. But when he arrived, he was met by another disciple instead.

This disciple seemed rather young. Hearing the purpose of Bai Mo’s visit, he said:

"News came from the front lines. Brother Hou was asked to prepare a thousand catties of white beast oil."

Bai Mo had heard of this item. It was a type of lamp oil occasionally used by Cultivators, extremely potent and long-burning.

It was normally used for forging large items and was a very rare and expensive substance.

"This substance is rare. It comes from a certain type of Demon Beast, refined from its fat."

"But that kind of Demon Beast is rare and difficult to hunt..."

Bai Mo lamented.

"Brother Hou is going to have his work cut out for him."

But the young disciple pointed in the direction of Celestial Barrier Mountain.

"There are some in the mountains. Brother Hou has already taken some men to hunt them."

"I’m temporarily holding down the fort for him here."

After the disciple finished speaking, he went back to dealing with the documents in his hands.

Seeing him looking rather flustered and overwhelmed, Bai Mo quietly backed out.

As soon as he stepped out of the Beast Firm, a large crowd of Cultivators swarmed over and surrounded Bai Mo.

"Beast bones, top-quality beast bones! Only in Immortal Arrival City! From a Great Demon! You can use them for bone ornaments or Artifact Refining!"

"Check out my pelts, shiny and beautiful!"

"Young Master, do you need a guide? I know all the ins and outs of the city, I’ll make sure you don’t get ripped off!"

Someone immediately shot a glare at the disrespectful youth, but kept up their own sales pitch without missing a beat.

With a cacophony of noise in his ears, Bai Mo cleared his throat and said casually:

"I’m a local myself. I live on the west side of town, run a small business. I’d appreciate your patronage sometime..."

Before he could finish, the crowd packed in front of him dispersed with a WHOOSH.

Many Cultivators came out of the Beast Firm; they weren’t short on potential customers besides Bai Mo.

He ambled outside, ate a bowl of hot wontons, and then returned to his shop.

Xue Ding and the others were just arriving for work.

Seeing Bai Mo, they were all stunned for a moment, then said joyfully:

"The Shopkeeper is back!"

"How was the trip?"

Bai Mo just smiled. "Not bad. I obtained some useful Pill Formulas. They’re absolute treasures. If you study them carefully, you might learn something."

"I’ll leave the Pill Formulas in the shop. You can take a look at them in your free time. Even grasping a fraction of the techniques within would be a huge gain."

Everyone was overjoyed. Not yet knowing how obscure the Pill Formulas Bai Mo had brought back were, they happily entered the Alchemy Room.

Wei An and Qin Wen, opening up the storefront, couldn’t help but remark:

"The Beast Firm really has its means."

"Celestial Mountain City is so far away, yet the Shopkeeper can make a round trip so easily."

Bai Mo entered the shop and saw that it was tidy, with no shortage of Pill bottles on display, and nodded in satisfaction.

"How’s business?"

"Extremely good!"

Wei An said, pulling a burlap sack out from behind the counter.

Inside was a pile of bulging silk pouches.

"Your fellow sect members delivered these yesterday."

Bai Mo’s heart pounded.

’Did my brothers have some sort of windfall? How could there be so much Five-colored Earth Qi? Or could it be that the earth veins in Celestial Barrier Mountain have shifted?’

’At this rate, I might be able to gather all the ingredients for my Five Viscera Pills.’

Without further hesitation, Bai Mo instructed the two of them:

"Although I’m back, I won’t be managing the shop for now."

"I’m going into seclusion this time, and it will probably take about a month. Unless it’s something urgent, do not disturb me."

Bai Mo rarely managed the day-to-day affairs anyway, and the shop staff could handle everything themselves, so Wei An didn’t think much of it.

Qin Wen followed Bai Mo to the herb room. Bai Mo only stopped after he had selected nearly two hundred catties of medicinal herbs.

"This should be enough. I’ll get more when I run out."

As he spoke, Bai Mo picked up several black cloth bags from a conspicuous spot.

Inside were the Fire Tongues, which had been delivered a few days prior.

Hou Mingsheng was indeed efficient. He had delivered the Fire Tongues Bai Mo needed before heading into the mountains himself.

BOOM!

The door to the quiet room opened. Bai Mo tossed the herbs he was holding inside, then took the ones Qin Wen was carrying.

"You can go now."

After speaking, Bai Mo closed the door to the quiet room.

The moment he sat down cross-legged, he stopped suppressing the thoughts in his mind.

A torrent of insights and realizations flooded his consciousness.

None of the fellow practitioners from Celestial Mountain City were simple characters. Their principles and concepts were the very essence of the Dao.

After sitting in meditation for three days, Bai Mo awoke, lit the furnace, and started the fire.

’The Alchemy Dao is truly not a path for the lazy.’

As the furnace fire blazed, some of the principles that had eluded him during his deep contemplation now became clear.

The herbs entered the furnace and were refined into a medicinal liquid. With a spin, they transformed into high-quality Pills.

The pile of Fire Tongues on the side gradually dwindled as they were refined into an ingredient for the Water and Fire Life-saving Pill.

When it came to refining this Tier Two Pill, Bai Mo already felt completely at ease.

Smoke filled the quiet room, and Bai Mo’s expression grew increasingly haggard.

He came out once in the middle of it to get more herbs, and Qin Wen was quite worried.

But when he noticed the increasingly bright gleam in Bai Mo’s eyes, despite his weary expression, Qin Wen was startled and swallowed the words he was about to say.

On the fifteenth day, Bai Mo was no longer refining the Water and Fire Life-saving Pill.

He had enough Fire Tongues for two hundred pills, but the other herbs had run out.

Sensing that his luck and condition were both excellent, Bai Mo decided to go all out and refine the Pills for his fellow sect members from Broken Blade Peak and Beast Taming Peak in one go.

Whether it was because he had thoroughly studied the Pill Formulas or because his hands were in the zone, two Pills—one red, one yellow—were both successfully created.

Only afterward did Bai Mo feel a wave of surprise and delight.

However, as he was placing the Pills into a bottle, he was suddenly struck by a wave of dizziness.

’I was too impulsive!’

A chill went through his heart.

Even though I was in the zone and my Alchemy success rate had greatly increased, with my hands and eyes pushed to their absolute limit, the toll of refining a Pill I had never successfully made before was unimaginable.

Without time for further thought, Bai Mo put away the Pill bottle, sat down cross-legged on the spot, and began to meditate to recover his senses.

Perhaps because he was too exhausted, his meditation did not go smoothly, and he often drifted into sleep.

Bai Mo spent two days in this half-dreaming, half-waking state before he finally recovered.

"That was close."

Having emerged from that state, Bai Mo realized what an incredible feat he had accomplished.

Recalling the process of refining those two types of Pills, Bai Mo ate a meal, contemplated for a moment, and then lit the furnace once again.

In the end, Bai Mo prepared twelve Pills for his fellow sect members from each of the two branches.

They had wandered the mountains for a long time just to gather all that Five-colored Earth Qi. This way, he felt he hadn’t let them down.

But Bai Mo had no intention of stopping. He once again tossed herbs into the Pill Furnace.

The Fire Marrow Pill was the shop’s signature product.

By now, refining this Pill was second nature to Bai Mo.

After his experience with the Water and Fire Life-saving Pill, Bai Mo had gained a special insight into refining Pills of either Pure Yang or pure yin alignment.

’Mass-producing Tier Two Pills on this scale would be considered a major feat even among Pill Masters.’

Bai Mo thought to himself as he tossed more herbs into the furnace.

’But with my mind as it is now, seeking further advancement in the Alchemy Dao will be difficult. I need to take it to the next level.’
