Immortal Cultivation: Starting from a Pharmacy Apprentice
Chapter 244: Cut DownChapter 244: Chapter 244: Cut Down
The chains pulled taut, their sharp hooks tearing through flesh and blood.
The men hadn’t even reached him when they were forced back by a mouthful of green fire the Demonic Cultivator spat out as he screamed.
One man was careless, and his wrist was touched by the green fire. He immediately cried out in pain.
The green flame spread up from his wrist, scorching his skin. The sight sent a chill down the spines of the others.
With a flick of his blade, the man’s companion said through gritted teeth:
"Brace yourself."
"Get lost!!"
The afflicted man shoved his companion away and immediately dropped to the ground, rolling over and over.
He ground his burning arm against the dirt until it was a bloody mess, but the green fire was extinguished.
"I’ve seen plenty of these dirty tricks!"
Seeing this, the morale of the nearby Demon Hunting Team’s Cultivators surged.
It seemed the so-called Demonic Cultivators weren’t as mysterious as they were made out to be.
Bai Mo hadn’t expected such a group of fierce Cultivators to be lying in wait near his shop.
He watched them expertly swing out chained weapons, moving in a formation as they circled the Demonic Cultivator.
This was clearly a method for hunting down a Demon Beast.
The sound of the weapons whistling through the air was terrifying.
The Demonic Cultivator couldn’t just sit and wait. After several struggles, gruesome blisters of blood swelled on his body, then burst, spewing out great globs of dark red gore.
The incoming weapons were stopped in their tracks, making a sound like metal being corroded.
The men on the scene cried out in alarm one after another.
"My chain hammer!"
"Dammit! My meteoric iron greatsword! I paid a fortune for it!"
Though they seemed to be in a panic, their attack was orderly. The men took turns launching their weapons, and after just two rounds, the Demonic Cultivator’s body was a tattered wreck.
Despair filled his heart. He looked at the men surrounding him, not understanding why he was suffering this fate.
He struggled violently, his body trembling, causing the chains to rattle and clash. The blood from his blisters was also corroding the iron links wrapped around him.
At this critical moment, a great spear suddenly descended from above. With a shake, it knocked aside the flying weapons and plunged straight through the top of the Demonic Cultivator’s head!
"EEYA!! AHHH!"
A bloodcurdling scream echoed as the blisters on the Demonic Cultivator’s body suddenly erupted, bursting again and again without pause.
Blood began to pour from his seven orifices, and his screams were replaced by a gurgling sound.
The Cultivator who had thrust the spear had never seen such a sight. He instantly let go and flew back in retreat.
"This guy has so much blood!"
One of the men said, swallowing nervously as he stared at the scene before him.
"That’s the result of practicing an evil art!"
A disciple from the Xuandao Sect walked over. He had suffered a severe head injury, and his eyes were completely bloodshot.
He gritted his teeth and said hatefully:
"How could an ordinary person have the ability to create so much blood?"
"He must have refined the flesh and blood essence of countless people into blood sacs and sewn them into his body to have this much. This is a top-tier evil art."
Hearing the anger and resentment in his voice, the men nearby didn’t dare to speak up. They could only look toward the approaching Bai Mo.
Bai Mo walked closer and greeted him with a cupped-fist salute.
"Senior Brother."
Hearing this, the Cultivator paused for a moment before realizing.
"Is that you, Junior Brother Bai?"
He had heard his fellow disciples mention a junior brother in the area who was skilled in pills and charged low prices.
Many of their sect brothers had done business with this junior brother.
Bai Mo nodded. The two exchanged names, and Bai Mo learned that this senior brother’s name was Chang Qing.
"Are you all right, Senior Brother? I have some healing Pills here."
Chang Qing shook his head.
"I’m fine. It’s just that I was cultivating a Divine Thought Secret Technique, and now, because of this bastard’s sneak attack, two months of hard work have gone to waste."
He couldn’t help but sigh.
The Jade Plate Secret Realm was fast approaching. He was afraid he wouldn’t have time to refine it again.
There was nothing that could be done about it. Bai Mo sighed, then said with admiration:
"Senior Brother, to pay such a price to capture a Demonic Cultivator is truly admirable."
Chang Qing dismissed the praise and gestured for Bai Mo to join him in looking at the still-bleeding Demonic Cultivator.
"I didn’t come here specifically for him. I just happened to be out today looking for high-quality pelts and stumbled upon this fellow in hiding."
"Otherwise, why would there have been so many complications?"
"Our sect brothers could have just joined forces and suppressed and killed this guy directly."
Seeing that the surrounding men were all looking at the Demonic Cultivator with apprehension, Chang Qing frowned slightly and spoke up:
"When this fellow attacked, he never used any powerful spells. Why? Because he doesn’t have the ability to."
"He’s just ruthless. The man has few real skills and no talent, so he had to learn some unorthodox methods, like those blood sacs and that treacherous Cyan Fire."
"He looks ferocious, but he’s a true paper tiger!"
Bai Mo nodded to himself.
’After entering the Xuandao Sect, I learned a lot of inside information.’
’For instance, the lowest rungs of the Demonic Cultivators were a much more motley crew than those of the righteous path of the Xuandao Sect.’
’There were all sorts of people. Some couldn’t even learn proper spells and relied entirely on various tricks to boost their combat power.’
’Many of these were horrifying methods, and harming living beings was just a matter of course for them.’
’This was also why the Xuandao Sect could not tolerate the presence of Demonic Cultivators within its jurisdiction.’
The surrounding men whispered among themselves, not having expected this to be the man’s true nature.
He had looked so ferocious, yet in the eyes of an immortal master from the Upper Sect, he seemed utterly insignificant.
After a moment, the Demonic Cultivator finally stopped moving.
Two lifeless halves of a body were locked within the iron chains.
Bai Mo glanced at Chang Qing, who nodded.
Bai Mo then gave a meaningful look to the man holding the chains.
The chains immediately shook and slackened. The two halves of the body hanging from them swayed twice before thudding to the ground.
The material of the chains was clearly extraordinary; they hadn’t broken even after being soaked and corroded by the blood for so long.
The man from the Demon Hunting Team picked them up, rinsed the blood off with clean water, and rubbed the shallow marks of corrosion.
"They’re still good. Just need to replace some of the hooks."
Many of the iron hooks on the chains had been badly corroded, with quite a few reduced to stubs.
He looked at Bai Mo.
"Alchemist Bai, what do you think of my brothers’ skills?"
Bai Mo said approvingly, "They’re impeccable. Using Demon Beast hunting techniques against a Demonic Cultivator... I doubt he ever stood a chance of escaping."
"By the way, do you have any high-quality pelts?"
"My senior brother happens to need some."
The man grinned.
"These days, we’re all hoarding our pelts, holding out against the big merchants outside."
"If anyone else were to ask, we’d naturally have none. But for you, it’s a different story."
He shot a look to someone behind him, and in less than a moment, a sturdy man arrived carrying a pile of pelts half a person’s height.
There were pelts of all colors, all of exceptionally fine quality. They were very thick, with no holes or insect bites.
Chang Qing’s eyelid twitched.
"No wonder everything on the market is such subpar stuff."
The man’s expression didn’t change.
"Blame those big merchants for driving the prices down too hard."
Chang Qing selected two pelts, one black and one yellow. It was impossible to tell what kind of Demon Beast they came from, but their fur was very thick.
"I won’t take advantage of you."
As he spoke, he tossed out a heavy cloth pouch.
The man’s eyes lit up. He snatched it with a large hand, his face beaming with joy.
"You’re a generous man!"
Chang Qing simply said, "As it happens, I need to refine a Magical Artifact. This will be a great help."
With that, he put away the pelts, collected the Demonic Cultivator’s corpse, and took his leave.
The crowd that had been scared away earlier gradually returned, pointing at the scene with lingering fear on their faces.
After baking under the sun, the pools of blood on the ground quickly began to stink with an overpowering smell of rot and gore.
It was just as Chang Qing had said: this blood wasn’t natural but had been created through some unknown method.
The crowd splashed the ground with clean water, and it took them half a day of scrubbing to get the area clean.
But the foul stench wouldn’t go away.
In the end, Wei An had to hurry over and use some of Bai Mo’s medicinal powder to suppress the odor.
