Chapter 279: Chapter 279: Arrival

With a furious gust of wind, the Spirit Beast roared and launched into the air, kicking up a massive cloud of dust.

The dust billowed across the entire stable.

The nearby Spirit Beasts roared one after another, growing restless and agitated.

An attendant disciple rushed over, carrying a wooden bucket of feed and muttering curses under his breath.

"You insatiable lot, always scheming to trick me out of more feed!"

Bai Mo stroked the giant bird’s white plumage. The long feathers were soft to the touch.

He had never seen a Spirit Beast so massive.

Fangs filled its beak, a startling sight to behold. He wondered how much meat it consumed in a single meal.

Not far behind, a smaller, white-feathered giant bird followed closely, occasionally having to flap its wings vigorously to keep up. It must be its offspring.

Bai Mo’s Pill Furnace and other belongings were on the bird behind them.

An Caiwei was beside him, squinting into the rushing wind with a look of pure contentment on her face.

"Once I get back this time, I probably won’t have to come out for menial tasks like this anymore."

Bai Mo smiled. "Sect disciples always have to perform service. Your accommodations in Immortal Arrival City were quite good, Senior Sister. Isn’t that better than doing some grueling chore?"

A glimmer of ambition shone in An Caiwei’s eyes.

"The Jade Plate Secret Realm is opening wide. All sorts of exotic, rare treasures will flow out, and some of them have miraculous effects for Foundation Establishment."

"And I’ll be starting my preparations for Foundation Establishment very soon!"

Within the sect, the service required of Foundation Establishment Cultivators was vastly different from that of Qi Refining disciples.

Bai Mo was stunned for a moment. He quickly recovered, cupped his hands, and said sincerely,

"In that case, let me be the first to congratulate you on your future success, Senior Sister!"

An Caiwei accepted his congratulations readily, but her expression turned serious as if she had just remembered something.

"For someone on my cultivation path, the entire Qi Refining stage is practically useless."

"Every time I see my peers out and about, so full of life and vigor... I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t envious."

"I just hope I can succeed on the first try and no longer have to endure that kind of struggle."

There was no perfect cultivation method in the world.

Her path allowed for rapid progress, but if she couldn’t reach Foundation Establishment, or if she failed and was left with latent injuries, it would be like falling into an abyss.

The drawback was undeniably immense.

However, Bai Mo didn’t think An Caiwei would fail.

From the subtle clues he’d observed, this senior sister possessed uncommon talent. Besides, with her family’s support, succeeding at Foundation Establishment shouldn’t be difficult.

As they spoke, An Caiwei suddenly looked Bai Mo up and down.

"Junior Brother, you’re just a single step away from the Qi Refining Ninth Layer."

"The Jade Plate Secret Realm will be open for about half a year. That’s enough time for you to achieve your breakthrough and prepare for Foundation Establishment."

Bai Mo was taken aback and waved his hands dismissively.

"I don’t have your talent, Senior Sister. Besides, I’m completely unprepared for everything that comes with breaking through to Foundation Establishment."

Bai Mo knew his own cultivation talent well.

To put it bluntly, it was merely passable.

His current cultivation progress was all thanks to the aid of pills.

With talent like his, he’d probably need to prepare a good number of rare treasures to have a chance at Foundation Establishment.

But An Caiwei shook her head.

"You don’t understand. While the Jade Plate Secret Realm is open, having a top-tier Alchemy Skill makes earning treasures incredibly easy."

"During this period, the disciples from Pill Peak walk around with their noses in the air."

Bai Mo was surprised. A flicker of interest ignited in his mind, but the whole idea still felt somewhat surreal.

’Ah well, I’ll see when the time comes.’

WHOOSH!

The Spirit Beast passed over a kingdom, likely a small dynasty, and climbed to a higher altitude.

The cold moisture of the clouds washed over them, sending a chill through their bodies.

Lanshan and his men had all spent their days tempering their bodies, and their potent vitality was no less than that of a weaker Demon Beast.

Unwilling to be a laughingstock in front of An Caiwei, the men circulated their vital energy and didn’t let out a single shiver.

They were men who had weathered many storms, but now, on their way to a major cultivation sect, they couldn’t help but feel apprehensive.

Seeing that their guides, Bai Mo and An Caiwei, were both approachable, the men couldn’t help but start whispering to one another.

"This will be a long journey. Have you all settled your affairs at home and within the company?"

"All settled. Then again, maybe we’ll just show our faces and be sent right back in a few days, haha!"

"Tsk! Can’t you say something more positive!?"

The men all glared at the one who had made the ill-omened remark, scaring him into hastily correcting himself.

Another man asked in confusion,

"Are we going straight into the Xuandao Sect?"

"I don’t think so. I heard we have to walk part of the way ourselves..."

Many of them had never before seen scenery like that along the way.

Amid the continued apprehension of Lanshan and his men, the giant white-feathered bird flew over mountains and rivers, finally reaching the sect’s entrance after two long months.

A dense fog shrouded the stone forest, blotting out the sky.

Bai Mo reached out and swirled his hand through the mist, and a thin film of water immediately coated his sleeve.

"This fog is so thick!"

An Caiwei had made several stops along the way, purchasing items from local cultivation sects, and had thus accumulated a great deal of luggage.

Lanshan and his men unloaded her and Bai Mo’s belongings, watching as the two giant birds plunged into the dense mist, momentarily carving out a huge clearing within it.

The mist slowly closed in again, but not before Lanshan and his men caught a glimpse of the forest of stone pillars and peaks within.

"How are we supposed to navigate this?"

Someone asked.

"Someone will come to meet us,"

An Caiwei said as she walked over to Bai Mo’s side.

"It’s like this every time the Jade Plate Secret Realm opens. Spiritual Qi leaks out, and the resulting spiritual pressure forces the moisture in the air to condense, creating this dense fog."

"It gets much better once you’re further inside."

The group waited for an hour before they heard the sound of wheels crunching on gravel.

Several young men and women appeared, riding in a massive carriage pulled by a giant Shilongzi.

The young men and women leaped down from the carriage.

"Sister!"

"Sister!"

The young man guiding the Shilongzi caught his breath.

"We didn’t expect you back so soon! It was only when you mentioned you were returning on a Wind Bird, and we spotted its approach, that we sped up."

An Caiwei gave a dismissive wave before turning to Bai Mo to introduce them.

"These are all disciples from my family who have joined the sect to cultivate."

"Would you like to come with us, Junior Brother?"

Bai Mo marveled at the cultivation aptitude of her family members but declined the offer.

"I need to return to Broken Blade Peak. I’ll first pay a visit to my senior brothers and friends, then find a good place to set up my furnace for Alchemy."

"So I won’t be joining you, Senior Sister."

With that, he turned to Lanshan and his men.

"Take care, everyone. Cultivating within the sect gates... I can’t say you’ll get twice the results with half the effort, but it definitely has its benefits."

Lanshan and his men, their faces solemn, cupped their hands in response.

"Farewell!"

Seeing that they had said their goodbyes, An Caiwei leaped onto the carriage and glanced around.

"Over thirty people, plus all this luggage... How are you going to transport everyone?"

One of the young men immediately replied,

"There are more carriages behind us! They’re just a bit slower, they’ll be here any moment!"

Sure enough, more carriages arrived shortly after, carrying Lanshan, his men, and their luggage into the fog until they disappeared from sight.

Naturally, one was set aside for Bai Mo.

Seeing the tall, strong horse hitched to the carriage, he knew this was more good business for Beast Taming Peak.

The special breed of horse pulling the cart was known for its ability to find its own way back. Disciples who rented them simply had to let them go when they were done, and the horses would return on their own.

The horses were remarkably intelligent, saving their riders a great deal of effort.

After a moment of preparation, the clip-clop of hooves rang out, and Bai Mo too disappeared into the mist.

The paths through the stone forest were numerous and indistinct.

Bai Mo took a deep breath and took a moment to get his bearings. Fortunately, his memory was good enough that he still recognized the way.

With a flick of the reins, the horse carried him off, galloping toward an intersection from which he could hear the sound of voices.
