Immortal Cultivation: Starting from a Pharmacy Apprentice
Chapter 301: Evil PillChapter 301: Chapter 301: Evil Pill
"This..."
’I have a grudge against Junior Brother Bai? When did I ever offend him?’
This was the first thought of the disciple who had just swallowed the Pill.
But on second thought, he felt it was impossible. After all, he had always gotten along well with others.
With this thought in mind, the disciple’s consciousness faded into darkness.
"Junior Brother!"
"Junior Brother Jin!!"
A crowd of people swarmed forward, rushing to support the disciple who was about to collapse.
The moment they touched him, however, they felt something was wrong. His flesh felt like soft mud, a truly unsettling sensation.
Someone pulled their hand back as if struck by lightning.
"Pill poison has entered his body! He’s a goner!"
Qin Zheng, however, wore a serious expression. He looked down at the arm that had fallen to the ground and saw that at the stump, torn sinew and bone, new flesh was actually squirming.
"We were hired for a great price. It makes no sense for us to be set up."
"Quick, look at Junior Brother Jin’s wound."
Everyone focused their gaze and saw that from the arm of the now-feeble Junior Brother Jin, not a drop of blood was flowing.
But the rapidly darkening wound was still a distressing sight.
"From the looks of it, he seems to have pulled through. Junior Brother Jin must just be too weak..."
"Bullshit!!"
Junior Brother Jin suddenly felt the pain lessen. He opened his eyes and said to his sect brother beside him:
"Help me up!"
The crowd helped him to his feet. Qin Zheng thought for a moment, then picked up the severed arm and helped him reattach it.
The flesh at the wound squirmed and actually grew back together.
Everyone was stunned.
"How is this possible!?"
Junior Brother Jin tried moving his arm. It worked just fine.
"Could this Pill truly have the power to regrow flesh on bare bone!?"
After experiencing it for a moment, however, Junior Brother Jin noticed something was off.
"My five senses don’t seem as sharp."
"I’m much stronger, but it doesn’t feel solid. There’s a kind of heart-pounding weakness that feels like it’s coming later."
Someone punched him in the chest.
THUD!
The flesh on Junior Brother Jin’s chest offered almost no cushion. The person who threw the punch only felt that his bones were incredibly hard.
After some discussion, Qin Zheng came to a conclusion.
"This drains all the potential from one’s flesh and blood to produce such a bizarre ability."
"Junior Brother Bai must have encountered people from the Demon Dao before. This Pill’s effects are similar to the evil techniques of the Demon Dao."
"The only question is how long we can survive after taking this Pill. I’m afraid that once its effects wear off, we’ll all die instantly."
Just then, Junior Brother Jin found a vial of Pills for replenishing qi and blood among those Bai Mo had given them.
"I’m afraid this Pill is meant to keep us clinging to life. I actually thought it was to replenish our qi and blood."
SWOOSH! THUNK!
A long, bone-white needle suddenly shot toward them.
"Ambush!"
The group immediately formed a defensive circle.
Then, amidst the dust kicked up in the distance, the silhouette of a bone beast with long spikes on its head appeared and disappeared.
The beast pack was closing in.
Junior Brother Jin clutched the pill vial, seeming to sense something.
"What’s wrong with me?"
Qin Zheng felt a chill run down his spine as he looked at Jin’s ashen, defeated face.
The bone spike that had just been shot had gone right through Junior Brother Jin’s head and come out the other side.
But looking at him, he didn’t seem to have noticed.
"Take the Pills! Break out!"
Qin Zheng snapped back to his senses and spoke through gritted teeth.
He glanced left and right. The dense demonic aura told him that Demon Beasts were already blocking their path forward.
With him taking the lead, half the group swallowed the Pills. After a frantic scramble, they all ended up in the same ghastly state as Junior Brother Jin.
"I know a place. It’s the old lair of those underground freaks."
"It was cleared out years ago. Many of our fellow disciples use it as a resting spot!"
With a plan in mind, the group crashed head-on into the ambushing Demon Beasts.
The half of the disciples who had taken the Pills charged to the front, feeling no pain as they tore through flesh and blood.
In their bloodlust, they were completely unaware that their own bodies were being torn to shreds, revealing viscera that was already losing its vitality.
Finally, Junior Brother Jin broke through the encirclement. With his Longsword in hand, he let out a strange cry and bolted.
CLANG!
A golden light flashed, and his head went flying.
Junior Brother Jin instinctively pressed his head back onto his neck. New flesh squirmed, and it healed as if it had never been severed.
He seemed a little confused, but the situation was too urgent to dwell on it.
The people behind him, however, had seen it all clearly and could only look at each other in bewilderment.
A short spear appeared in Qin Zheng’s hand. He threw it, and just as the winged golden bird was about to dodge, a burst of sparks erupted from the spear.
Its vision was blinded, and in its confusion, it was impaled by the spear.
Qin Zheng retrieved the spear and escaped along with the others...
...
Outside, An Caiwei watched, stunned.
The surrounding disciples were also shocked, and a buzz of discussion quickly followed.
"Someone actually refined such an Evil Pill!? Is the sect just going to ignore this?"
"Who organized that group? What could they possibly be after to pay such a steep price?"
"No, but look at the state of those disciples. It really doesn’t look like anything good..."
An Caiwei’s heart pounded with anxiety as she listened.
’Junior Brother Bai must be too obsessed. He dares to refine any kind of Pill now, and he’s not even trying to hide it.’
In the distance, a group of disciples from Pill Peak was watching.
Their leader was the renowned Tianqingzi. His expression was grave, and a sharp light gleamed in his eyes.
"What an incredible person!"
A few of the Pill Peak disciples beside him, who had been excitedly preparing to use this incident to attack Bai Mo, were taken aback.
"Huh?"
They swallowed the plans that were on the tips of their tongues.
"Brother Tianqingzi?"
Tianqingzi said, "This Pill uses its poison to force out the potential of one’s flesh and blood, acting upon the body to grant the user an undying physique similar to that from a Demon Dao Cultivation Technique!"
"But how does it allow the user to maintain their sanity? Does it use herbs that preserve consciousness?"
"And how would one control the balance? It couldn’t possibly be tailor-made for each person..."
He fell into deep thought.
The other Pill Peak disciples finally understood. Hearing their senior brother’s analysis, it seemed the Pill wasn’t an Evil Pill after all?
It seemed their long observation had been for nothing.
Seeing Tianqingzi standing there, lost in thought, they didn’t dare disturb him and could only wait cautiously.
After a long while, Tianqingzi came to his senses and shook his head.
"What a pity."
He wanted to compete with Bai Mo, but it was clear that this junior brother’s influence was not to be underestimated.
If he really stirred up trouble, he was afraid it would interfere with his own affairs, so he had no choice but to give up the idea.
News of what happened to Qin Zheng and his group spread quickly.
For a time, it became a topic of amusing gossip.
After all, it wasn’t every day you saw something as bizarre as Junior Brother Jin’s head flying off and being reattached.
When the story reached Bai Mo’s ears, however, he had a bad feeling.
’They used their trump card so soon?’
He had underestimated the dangers of the Jade Plate Secret Realm.
’For now, I can only place my hopes in Brother Yin. I hope he’s skilled enough.’
Pacing for a moment in the Stone Lodge, Bai Mo even considered recruiting a new team.
’I’ll go take a look first!’
After asking around among the disciples who had gathered to watch the spectacle, Bai Mo easily found a vantage point to observe Qin Zheng and the others.
An Caiwei was watching with many other disciples, and seeing this, Bai Mo went over to join them.
Meanwhile, on the distant Stone Peak, two gazes fell upon Bai Mo before being withdrawn without a trace.
The yellow-robed Daoist spoke, "What do you think?"
"Didn’t I tell you this disciple was of good quality?"
The long-bearded elder nodded slightly.
"With such ability, he is, by any measure, a top-tier seed for cultivation."
"My eyes aren’t as sharp as yours. I wanted to take a closer look, but I was afraid the boy’s Divine Thought might be sensitive enough to notice and see through our intentions..."
