Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Detention

「Half a month later.」

A group of tall, sturdy disciples slowly approached, dragging a caged cart and pushing aside the overgrown plants that blocked their path.

Inside the caged cart, a Cultivator with disheveled hair was imprisoned. Bound in a cangue and shackles, he looked like a prisoner from the mortal world being escorted to the execution grounds.

"Pah! For a fiend like him, our senior brother wasted two years, suffered grievous injuries, and missed his chance for Core Formation. How was it worth it?"

A disciple glanced at the man in the cage and couldn’t help but vent his indignation.

"Sigh... This scoundrel and his lackeys rampaged across the mortal world. Our senior brother’s family fell victim to them, leaving only his niece alive."

"If he had suddenly come face-to-face with such a villain and just swallowed his anger to deal with it later, I’m afraid his Core Formation wouldn’t have gone smoothly anyway..."

The man in the caged cart opened his eyes, revealing a pair of shining pupils—one black, one white.

’So that man actually had an heir left in this world? If I’d known, I would’ve had my people finish the job properly. It would’ve been some small revenge in advance for him ambushing me.’

’Judging by the style of his attacks, he must be from the Great Chuan Mountain region. He can’t hide that from me.’

’To be successfully ambushed by a mere Foundation Establishment junior... I’ve been a hawk my whole life, only to get my eyes pecked out.’

The disciples glared at him.

"Shut up, you villain!"

"Did you think we didn’t know you already sent your trusted men to Great Chuan Mountain during the chaos of the fight?"

Several of them sneered.

"Let us tell you, whether you were plotting revenge or trying to coerce us into letting you go, it’s useless now."

"Fellow disciples are already on their way to Great Chuan Mountain. That rabble you call subordinates are nothing but sheep walking into a tiger’s den. A futile effort!"

The Cultivator in the cage slowly closed his eyes.

’If they are truly grateful for my tutelage, they should be willing to risk their lives to win me a glimmer of hope...’

The disciples were disdainful.

’A den of thieves repaying a kindness? As if a bunch of villains like them had that kind of integrity.’

As the gentle breeze blew, Mi Mountain came into view.

Following a familiar path to the entrance of the black prison, the group saw the large pits on either side of the gate.

"Huh! The two brothers from the Shi family are awake? They’re not sleeping anymore?"

A disciple spoke in a deep, rumbling voice.

"Let’s hope they aren’t patrolling inside. It’d be a pain to run into them."

He came to two large bronze rings and, grabbing them, knocked several times. BANG! BANG! BANG!

After waiting a moment with no response, he knocked several more times.

"Forget it, let’s just wait for them..."

As soon as the words left his mouth, the gate suddenly opened with the heavy, grating sound of stone.

Bai Mo hurried over, his clothes still dusted with medicinal powder.

Since coming to Mi Mountain, this was the first time he had visitors.

Sure enough, a few travel-worn disciples, still in their weapon-slashed robes, had arrived with a prisoner.

The visiting disciples were very surprised to see Bai Mo, and even more astonished when they saw the gray-white Daoist robe he was wearing.

"Where are the Shi family brothers?"

Bai Mo replied, "They went on a long journey with an elder. I am now the one guarding Mi Mountain."

"Oh, then my apologies. I’m surprised a junior brother like you can endure such a cold and boring assignment."

As they spoke, the disciple who had knocked on the door came forward and handed over a token made of green bamboo.

"This is the internment token from the Foreign Affairs Hall. Junior Brother, please inspect it."

Bai Mo took it and, following the receiving method left by the stone giants, easily broke the restriction on the token.

The token shimmered with a faint light that flowed and disappeared into Bai Mo’s palm.

A flash of spiritual insight appeared in his mind, and Bai Mo immediately knew it was authentic. He then swung the gate wide open.

"It is indeed an internment order."

"Senior Brothers, please come in."

The six disciples pulled the caged cart inside, and Bai Mo closed the gate.

BOOM!

The sound of the gate closing made the prisoner open his eyes and look around. Only then did Bai Mo notice the unusual color of the man’s pupils.

"This is Old Demon Qiu. He is wicked to the core, and his methods are cruel. If our senior brother hadn’t lain in ambush for two years, it really wouldn’t have been easy to capture this scoundrel."

Seeing the pitch-black tunnel behind the bars opposite him, Old Demon Qiu seemed to sense something, and his expression changed slightly.

The Profound Dao Mountain black prison had imprisoned countless people; one more or one less made no difference.

Once inside, it would be truly difficult to ever get out again.

Realizing this, his face suddenly darkened, becoming as still and heavy as stagnant water.

He then saw the boy who claimed to be the guard of the black prison, who was nothing more than a Foundation Establishment Cultivator. Old Demon Qiu’s gaze swept over him, predatory, as if looking for someone to devour.

Bai Mo calmly sized up the man, his gaze lingering on the man’s eyes for a few extra moments.

"Is this fiend seriously injured, with some of his techniques sealed?"

"That’s right. It’s a type of sealing technique from the sect. It only lasts for a month."

Bai Mo nodded thoughtfully, walked around the medicinal herbs and pestle placed to the side, and went to open the barred gate.

"Senior Brothers, please help me bring this fiend inside."

The disciples complied, dragging the caged cart forward.

They saw the medicinal herbs placed to the side and didn’t dare get too close, afraid of ruining someone’s property.

A badger was hurriedly carrying things into the stone house.

While carrying a stone bowl filled with medicinal powder toward the inner room, the badger suddenly went THWAP and fell to the ground.

The stone bowl fell, barely avoiding tipping over, though a small handful of medicinal powder spilled out.

Seeing the badger lie motionless, a disciple was slightly alarmed.

"Junior Brother, your Spirit Beast!"

Such an intelligent Spirit Beast was a rare sight. It would be a great pity if something had really happened to it.

Bai Mo glanced over.

"It’s fine. It’s just paralyzed. It’ll be back to normal in an hour or so."

The disciples looked dubiously at the silent badger, but still pushed the caged cart into the tunnel.

Ever-burning lamps lit up, allowing the group to see the cells inside, and also allowing the various old fiends to see them.

"Another fellow has come to keep us company. How very thoughtful!"

"Hehe, look at him. He seems like a third-rate piece of trash. I wonder what he did to get thrown in here..."

Old Demon Qiu’s expression was grim. He shot a glance at the prisoner who called him third-rate and was then led further down.

After walking a long way, Bai Mo stopped in front of an empty cell. Without any visible action from him...

...with just a thought, the chains binding the cell door fell away.

Bai Mo opened the cell door.

"If you would, Senior Brothers, please put the man inside."

One disciple placed his hand on Old Demon Qiu’s lower back. After sensing for a moment, he nodded at his fellow disciples.

"The seal is fine."

With that, he opened the caged cart and roughly shoved Old Demon Qiu into the cell.

The moment he entered the cell, both Old Demon Qiu and the disciple grunted in pain, their faces turning deathly pale.

In this prison, anyone who entered—aside from the warden—would be suppressed by the restrictive spells.

CLANK!

The shackles were unlocked.

Old Demon Qiu roared and lunged for the door.

BANG!

The disciple who had removed the shackles kicked out, sending him flying into the back wall. Only then did the disciple let out a cold snort and walk out on his tingling foot.

Bai Mo closed the cell door and wrapped the chains back around it.

The group didn’t want to linger in the black prison; the smell inside was never pleasant.

Although the black prison held Cultivators of some standing, some were just naturally slovenly, while others had fallen into such a state that they no longer cared about their hygiene.

As they were walking out, one of the disciples remembered something and said casually:

"That cell just now... it used to hold a Golden Core old fiend. I even saw him once."

"I heard that old fiend was sent to an ancient demon’s nest to become a blood sacrifice."

The others hadn’t heard about this and, their curiosity piqued, began to ask questions.

"Heh, I happen to have a good friend among the disciples who was involved in that, and he told me a few things."

"That demon’s nest isn’t actually some incredible place, it just has some divinity circulating within it. The Demon God inside revived and demanded blood sacrifices."

As he spoke, the black prison fell quiet for a moment. Even the normally talkative prisoners were listening in.

"That Demon God acts purely on its divine nature, without any real thought. The sect saw this as a rare opportunity, so they agreed to its demands and sent many blood sacrifices over."

"Tsk tsk, things left over from ages past are truly savage..."
