Immortal Cultivation: Starting from a Pharmacy Apprentice
Chapter 328: Sea EyeChapter 328: Chapter 328: Sea Eye
With the warden of Mi Mountain’s black prison returned, operations were meant to get back on track.
Bai Mo changed into the gray-white Daoist robe of the warden and stepped into the black prison.
Nothing much had changed inside. The only difference was Xiao Lin, who, upon seeing Bai Mo, lunged at the wooden bars of his cell and began to curse.
An endless stream of profanity filled the air.
Bai Mo turned a deaf ear, strolling leisurely past old man Sun Qian’s cell without a pause.
The old man called out a few times, but receiving no response, could only watch helplessly as Bai Mo departed.
’My term is almost up. If I can’t get out in time, heaven knows what could happen.’
’Will those damnable Xuandao Sect disciples drag me off to fill the Sea Eye just to cover up their own mistakes?’
Only after completing his patrol and finding nothing amiss did Bai Mo return to Sun Qian’s cell door.
"Young man?"
Old man Sun Qian looked up, his eyes filled with hope.
Bai Mo gave a slight nod.
"I’ve inquired about your case, Senior."
"The elder who captured you has confirmed your story. Your crime does not warrant being used to fill the Sea Eye."
SLAP!
The old man slapped his own thigh.
"See? I told you I wasn’t lying!"
He was so agitated he was on the verge of tears, and he couldn’t help but pace back and forth in his cell.
Watching the man’s display, Bai Mo finally understood why his assessment in the prison registry was so low.
’A Nascent Soul cultivator with such a weak disposition. It’s no wonder people look down on him.’
’But still, are there really shortcuts to the Nascent Soul Realm, a stage above tens of thousands of cultivators?’
’The path of cultivation is truly fascinating!’
"Just wait, Senior. When your sentence is up, disciples from the sect’s Foreign Affairs Hall will come with a command token to collect you."
Bai Mo said calmly.
Old man Sun Qian nodded again and again.
"Good, good!"
"Please, young man, help me keep an eye out. After two hundred and fifty years of confinement, any crime should be paid in full..."
The moment he said this, sneering laughter erupted from several nearby cells.
"Heh!"
"What about our fellow cultivators who were trapped here until they died? I wonder what they thought at the end."
"Hahaha..."
Old man Sun Qian’s expression remained unchanged.
’Just a few poor souls destined to fill the Sea Eye. Not worth wasting my breath on.’
"I can’t thank you enough for your help, young man."
"If you ever need a hand with anything, just come find this old man. I may not be able to fight, but I’ve wandered for half my life. I’ve seen and learned a thing or two."
Bai Mo remained noncommittal.
"We’ll see."
Then, old man Sun Qian’s face twisted into a pained expression. He rubbed his leg and asked cautiously:
"Also... about changing my cell, which I mentioned to you before..."
Bai Mo shook his head.
"Unfortunately, the only vacant cell was taken by that Old Demon Qiu."
"You’ll have to bear with it a while longer, Senior."
With that, Bai Mo turned and left.
A faint sigh came from behind him, followed by old man Sun Qian forcing himself to shout:
"Please keep it in mind, young man! I will be sure to reward you when I get out!"
Bai Mo arrived at Old Demon Qiu’s cell and looked the old fiend up and down.
The man merely glanced at Bai Mo before shuffling on the ground to turn his back to him.
’It’s no secret that this new kid, the warden, takes people out to test his concoctions.’
’No need to stir up trouble for nothing.’
Seeing that the old demon was still weak, Bai Mo felt a sense of satisfaction, quickly followed by a surge of urgency.
’If he regains his strength, it’ll be much harder to make my move. I have to refine that Pill as soon as possible.’
’If I can really subdue a Golden Core cultivator, I can test Pills on him, or even plant the secret medicines mentioned in the books, using his body as a culture medium.’
’Everything will be up to me then.’
’During my tenure at Mi Mountain, I might actually master some of the secret techniques from the ancient art of pill-making.’
’The ancient Cultivation Realm was truly a savage place. A method like using powerful cultivators to nurture medicine... where else but this black prison could I ever put it into practice?’
With a myriad of thoughts swirling in his mind, Bai Mo walked out of the cell block.
He had just finished logging his patrol and was about to check on the fruits of Ah Er’s past few days of "sowing" when there was a knock on the main door.
The stone door swung open.
Three emotionless Cultivators appeared before him, dragging a disheveled, raggedly dressed man behind them with iron chains.
Beneath the tattered rags, the faint remnants of fine robes were still visible.
He had clearly been a person of high status.
Seeing Bai Mo, the three men managed to force an ugly-looking smile.
"Greetings, Junior Brother. By order of the Foreign Affairs Hall, we’re here to deliver this man for incarceration. We also need to take one of the Nascent Soul old demons away."
With that, one of them handed over a Bamboo Command Token.
Bai Mo used a Secret Technique to decipher it. A thought was all it took to understand the token’s contents, and he nodded.
"Very well. Follow me, Senior Brothers."
He had just left the black prison, only to turn right back around.
As Bai Mo walked, he could smell the faint, ethereal scent of incense wafting from the three disciples behind him.
They were disciples from Divine Dao Mountain.
He had heard from Yuan Chu and others from Divine Dao Mountain that Inner Sect Disciples had access to a greater number of divine generals to worship as Dharma Protectors.
Among these entities were more than a few heterodox beings who wielded forbidden arts.
Fearing that lesser disciples might be unable to control their hearts and be seduced by wicked, unorthodox ways, only Inner Sect Disciples were permitted to worship such Dharma Protectors.
But borrowing and wielding such power came with a greater price and far more rules.
The three disciples behind him did not look like brothers born of the same mother, so it was clear their cold, rigid demeanor was the result of some external influence.
Walking into the depths of the black prison, Bai Mo found an empty cell.
"Put him in there."
One of the Divine Dao Mountain disciples reached out and gave the man a light pat on the back. The prisoner stumbled forward, unable to stop, and tumbled into the cell.
Bai Mo promptly shut the cell door.
The other old demons glanced at their new "colleague," but seeing he was an unfamiliar face, they all looked away, their attention turning to Bai Mo as he led the men to another cell door.
The four of them stopped. Inside the cell, the fiend’s eyes suddenly flashed. A terrifying aura emanated from his aged body, only to be extinguished an instant later.
’They are merely juniors. Not even worth speaking to.’
CLANG!
The chains on the cell door dropped away, and an ancient coffin appeared in front of the Divine Dao Mountain disciples.
The coffin lid flipped open, revealing the mottled scratch marks of fingernails on its inner surface.
"Hmph!"
A terrifying aura erupted from the cell, pushing outward in a flat wave of energy.
But before the strange power could spread far, it vanished without a trace, like a stone tossed into the ocean.
There was no earth-shattering struggle. Even a great Nascent Soul cultivator who had once commanded the winds and clouds had to lie dormant in the black prison.
THUMP!
The fiend struggled as the coffin slammed against him, forcing him inside.
"No!"
As his defiant hand was pulled into the coffin, the lid slammed shut, and all went still.
Two of the Divine Dao Mountain disciples entered the cell, lifted the coffin, and walked out.
The one who remained behind twitched the corner of his mouth.
"We appreciate your trouble, Junior Brother."
Bai Mo shook his head.
"Did something happen?"
"A Sea Eye has appeared at the River of No Crossing. The sect intends to seal it..."
The two of them spoke as they followed the disciples carrying the coffin out of the prison.
Silence fell over the black prison.
Only after Bai Mo and the others were gone did a hoarse voice break the quiet.
"The River of No Crossing, you say? Which of the Sea Races is stirring up trouble this time?"
Another voice snorted coldly.
"The River of No Crossing is a strategic pass. The Sea Eye must be sealed, no matter the cost."
"I wonder how many Nascent Soul cultivators they’ll sacrifice this time. The flimsy bodies of Core Formation cultivators certainly won’t be enough!"
At these words, many eyes, previously shut tight, snapped open in cells throughout the prison, their gazes flickering with an uncertain light...
