Lu Shan could be considered a lucky cultivator.
"The disciples on the mountain all say I'm lucky to have made it back in one piece."
He poured Mister a cup of tea.
It was strong tea.
At least, Chen Changsheng found it incredibly bitter after a single sip—so bitter it lacked the slightest hint of a sweet aftertaste.
It was no ordinary bitterness.
It even left his mouth terribly dry and made him thirstier than before.
Chen Changsheng set the tea down and asked, "Fellow Daoist Lu, you were never like this before..."
For Lu Shan, he had only a helpless sigh.
Nor was Lu Shan willing to bring it up.
Ultimately, it was just that some people were no longer around. Life, death, parting, and reunion entangled together—it was almost always like this. The hurdle of the seven emotions and six desires was inherently difficult to overcome, and such things were never lacking in the Mortal World.
Whenever cultivators spoke of the Mortal World, they would reveal a hint of yearning, but on second thought, a wave of lingering fear would wash over them, as if they were recalling some great terror.
The Red Dust of the Mortal World was like a flood or a savage beast.
But in the eyes of older cultivators, it was not all that terrifying. In the end, it depended on the individual. Once the mind cleared, the hurdle was passed.
But for the vast majority of people...
It was hard!
Incredibly hard!
Just like Chen Changsheng, who found himself entangled in these trivial matters of the Red Dust.
Just like Lu Shan, who had grown weathered and down-and-out.
As their eyes met, they seemed to share a sense of mutual pity. The situation left them both feeling quite helpless, and they shook their heads in unison.
The two simply drank their tea, asking nothing more.
Chen Changsheng said, "Fellow Daoist Lu will eventually walk out of this. Once you step past this hurdle, it will be smooth sailing."
Lu Shan stared blankly for a moment. Recovering his wits, he replied, "I will borrow Mister Chen's auspicious words."
There was always a divide between them, so their conversation did not last long.
Chen Changsheng felt that perhaps his mind had just grown too old, hence the distance. Thinking about it, it was true; such a long stretch of years had passed.
Bidding farewell to Lu Shan, he returned to immerse himself in the Library Pavilion.
He couldn't miss this opportunity. For one thing, he wanted to study the Creation Yin-Yang Method. For another, he wanted to see if there were any powerful techniques he could learn.
Even Zhong Zhengyuan was left in a daze for a long time upon seeing this.
He couldn't help but feel a sense of inferiority, muttering, "Mister Chen possesses such heaven-defying abilities, yet he never slacks off. I am truly ashamed."
Infected by this dedication, Zhong Zhengyuan found a few ancient tomes and began studying them as well.
The sky had yet to brighten.
Chen Changsheng had already arrived at the highest point of Tianji Mountain, atop a sheer precipice.
Quite a few things had been left behind here.
The most obvious was a sword scar. It was said that this peak was originally taller, but a section had been cleanly sliced off. Rumor had it that a former sect master was responsible, and several Tianji Mountain elders had chased and beaten him for three days and three nights over it.
Chen Changsheng sat cross-legged here, regulating his breathing as he waited for daybreak.
The time when Yin-Yang Qi was most apparent was during the transition between day and night. The morning was the purest, simply because it was the time when all things rose and all spirits awakened. Dusk was far from comparable, solely because the ambient energies were too chaotic.
Every breath he took silently aligned with the laws of heaven.
When Chen Changsheng opened his eyes and gazed into the distance, he saw a faint hint of fish-belly white rising on the horizon. Accompanied by the brilliant hues of the morning sun, it slowly entered his vision.
"I wonder if they will conflict with each other."
He closed his eyes once more to sense the two energies of yin and yang.
The cultivation methods of this Cultivation World shared commonalities with the Five Qi Returning to Origin Method.
What he had previously circulated was the method of three flowers gathering at the crown and the Five Qi Returning to Origin Method described by the Daoist Gate of his past life. That was a method of using heaven and earth as a furnace to temper oneself. In contrast, the methods of this world were mostly internal refinement techniques, and this Creation Yin-Yang Method was one as well.
Actually, there was no real need for him to make this trip.
Nor was there any need to try this yin and yang method.
It was just that when Miss Manyue spoke of these things, Chen Changsheng realized just how severely lacking his understanding of them truly was.
So why not give it a try?
To cultivate this yin and yang method, one normally had to disperse their current cultivation. However, considering the vast differences and unique advantages of the two, and having studied numerous other techniques to grasp a few clues, Chen Changsheng had an idea.
The five qi converging to the origin used heaven and earth as a furnace.
The Creation Yin-Yang Method used one's own body as a furnace.
Comparatively speaking, the five qi converging to the origin was indeed superior by a margin.
Yet in contrast, the Five Qi Returning to Origin Method solely focused on fire essence, and in this regard, it fell short of the Creation Yin-Yang Method.
The latter's study of spiritual essence was much more precise and comprehensive.
Both had their merits.
Since that was the case, why not extract their essence, discard the dregs, and forge a new method?
But this was no easy feat.
In his early years, Chen Changsheng had indeed created techniques, such as the Dragon Maiden's Incense Cultivation Method. But that was merely forged by modifying the Incense Cultivation Method under the framework of a City God. It was just like how a grave robber always had some understanding of tomb construction—an unorthodox path.
But now, there were two entirely distinct paths laid out before him; the difficulty was on a completely different level.
Combining the cultivation arts of his past life with those of this world was even harder.
Today, Chen Changsheng had come precisely for this Yin-Yang Qi. If he wanted to utilize it, he first needed to understand exactly what this Yin-Yang Qi was like. After all, the records in the books were merely ink on paper.
It was the transition between day and night, when yin and yang circulated.
Before his eyes, black and white seemed to divide the world.
It was also in this moment that the process of yin and yang transforming into the five elements took place.
Chen Changsheng immediately opened his Dharma Eye. He watched the two energies of yin and yang rise on the horizon, only to transform into the five-colored energies of the five elements in the blink of an eye and surge toward the world.
This time, he saw the two energies of yin and yang with absolute clarity.
Raising his head, it was as if his fingertips pinched the very line dividing heaven and earth.
He raised a hand and beckoned.
He trapped a wisp of Yin-Yang Qi, and it soon landed in his palm.
Compared to the energies of the five elements, this Yin-Yang Qi was much heavier. It lacked the erratic nature of the five elements; instead, its aura felt like a fish swimming in a lake, endlessly tracing circles in the center of Chen Changsheng's palm.
Yin and yang were the rules of this world...
The Yin-Yang Qi tumbled back and forth in his palm.
This profound stability seemed to tell him that if this Yin-Yang Qi were ever set into motion, it would be far more terrifying than the energies of the five elements.
Chen Changsheng carefully sensed it, sitting there for an entire morning.
High noon arrived.
The Yin-Yang Qi in his palm began to grow restless.
Under Chen Changsheng's watchful gaze, the Yin-Yang Qi gradually transformed, giving rise to the five elemental energies of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. He witnessed this entire process with his own eyes.
"The transformations of the world are truly wondrous!"
"Marvelous, truly marvelous..."
A smile appeared on Chen Changsheng's face.
He had figured out a direction.
After a moment of thought, he rose with his sword in hand.
"Then I shall use this cliff face as my paper, and my sword as ink!"
Before long, the ringing of a sword echoed across the peak, sending showers of crushed stone raining down.
Chen Changsheng frequently stopped in his tracks, occasionally pausing to think. His hand stalled time and time again, yet he was always able to pick up where he left off.
The further he went, the smoother his train of thought became.
As he reached the middle section, something abruptly crossed his mind.
His heart suddenly skipped a beat.
"The eyes of heaven and earth in this Cultivation World have already been blinded. I suppose a thunder tribulation probably won't descend."
With that thought in mind, Chen Changsheng set his worries aside.
