Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1012: Turning Illusion into Reality

When the aura dissipated, the figure turned to sand and scattered.

It also meant that he, Chen Changsheng, was about to fall into another deep slumber.

He arrived in the dream as promised.

The Qingshan City in his dream retained its appearance from his memories. This was his Qingshan City, and so it would never change.

Old Huang at the tea stall had already prepared the tea, brewing it as he waited for him to arrive.

"Yo, look at you. You seem to be in a good mood," Yan Huanglou said with a smile.

Chen Changsheng sat down and said, "The day is approaching. Success or failure hinges on this. Perhaps in a short while, This Chen will escape this predicament and won't have to come looking for you all so often."

Hearing this, a smile appeared on Yan Huanglou's face. "That's good. If you keep visiting us like this, you'll become a madman sooner or later."

"What does that have to do with being a madman?"

"Why would you say that?"

"If you weren't a madman, how could you see us in your dreams?"

Yan Huanglou's words left Chen Changsheng momentarily speechless.

Seeing his silence, Yan Huanglou smiled and asked, "What's wrong? Did I hit a sore spot? Have nothing to say?"

Chen Changsheng shook his head. "Not at all. This Chen just thinks your words make some sense. I am indeed a bit mad."

If he wasn't mad, how could he recreate all these old acquaintances in his dreams?

Ultimately, it was a kind of paranoia—a morbid obsession.

This wasn't something a proper cultivator should do. It was as if he were catering to his own inner demon; instead of trying to deal with it, he remained reluctant to part with it. This in itself was madness.

Chen Changsheng took a sip of tea and sighed. "Stop trying to point it out to me. This Chen knows you are all manifestations of my inner self. Say a few more words to provoke me, and I really might wipe you all out. That wouldn't be good, and I don't wish for that to happen."

Yan Huanglou fell silent at that and snatched the teacup back from Chen Changsheng's hands.

"What are you doing?"

"Stop drinking."

Chen Changsheng wasn't annoyed by this. He just smiled and said no more.

The old acquaintances in this dream were actually all him, just manifestations of his inner self.

Most likely, they looked down on his current behavior.

It seemed incredibly pathetic.

"If I can't drink, I won't. This Chen can at least have some porridge, right?"

"There's no porridge for you, either."

"Stingy."

Yan Huanglou snorted and said, "Stingy as I may be, I'm not as pathetic as you."

"What is this? Am I scolding myself?"

Chen Changsheng shook his head and said, "It's truly strange. How could my inner self condemn me?"

Yan Huanglou started wiping the table and said, "Shouldn't you ask yourself that?"

Chen Changsheng rested one hand on the table, tapping it lightly. He looked at Yan Huanglou, seemingly pondering many things.

"Sigh, how truly unpleasant," Chen Changsheng said.

Yan Huanglou looked up at him and asked, "Then what do you want to do?"

Chen Changsheng stroked his chin and said, "This dream is lacking something. If only all of you were alive... how wonderful would that be?"

Yan Huanglou was stunned to hear this. He smacked his lips and said, "You really are a madman. What exactly is wrong with you? You were never this crazy before."

Chen Changsheng said, "This Chen was merely mentioning it. Why take it so seriously?"

"Do I not know you? You act on whatever crazy idea pops into your head. You might just really do something like that."

"So you're saying This Chen's method won't work?"

"Of course it won't work!"

Yan Huanglou frowned. "With your abilities, you wouldn't be able to distinguish between what's a dream and what's real. In the end, you either wouldn't be able to wake up, or you'd become so obsessed with this that you'd truly go mad!"

"You look down on me."

"You got that right. I do look down on you."

"..."

Chen Changsheng wore a helpless expression and spread his hands.

He breathed a sigh, but inwardly, he actually began to ponder whether this method was feasible.

"Hmm..."

Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck him.

Chen Changsheng said, "Tell me, if I turn the dream into reality and dwell in the boundary between illusion and truth, would I be able to escape the curse?"

Yan Huanglou's arm stiffened, and he repeatedly shook his head.

"No?"

Chen Changsheng asked.

"I just said it. No," Yan Huanglou replied.

"I want to try."

Chen Changsheng rubbed his hands together. It was indeed just as Yan Huanglou had said—he acted on whatever whim came to mind.

Moreover, it seemed everything was moving forward in accordance with this idea.

For instance, the very dreamscape he was currently in.

He had constructed this dreamscape out of nothingness, which was also a kind of change.

Yan Huanglou stopped talking and silently began wiping the teacups.

Seeing his silence, Chen Changsheng didn't ask further. Instead, he sat there and mulled it over.

How should he turn illusion into reality?

As things stood, whether it was Yan Huanglou or the others in this dream, they were all illusory. They were merely manifestations of his inner self.

Chen Changsheng was thinking of bestowing true emotions upon these people, rather than having them substituted by his own inner self. If so...

Seeing him lost in thought, Yan Huanglou opened his mouth and said, "If you want to think, go think somewhere else. Don't be an eyesore here."

Chen Changsheng shot him a glance and shook his head.

He simply got up and went elsewhere.

He headed toward Chuanfeng Alley. It was worth noting that there was no one in this alley.

As he walked into the alley, it was as if he were anticipating something again.

He arrived in front of the door directly opposite his courtyard.

Chen Changsheng hesitated for a moment, then knocked on the door.

"Knock, knock..."

A long silence followed; a long wait.

But no one came to open the door. Seeing this, Chen Changsheng let out a sigh of relief, then pushed the door open and entered.

There were traces of life around, but the place was empty. No one was there.

In other words, in his dream, there was no Miss Yun.

He looked up, only to see a figure faintly visible by the window, but when he rubbed his eyes, the figure vanished.

Chen Changsheng exhaled a long breath and said, "Don't come. Just rest well..."

He murmured this, then immediately walked out of the courtyard.

That young lady would not appear in his dream.

He returned to his own courtyard and sat down.

The rocking chair still felt as comfortable as ever; it made him feel as though he could never get up once he sat down.

Swaying gently, he hummed a little tune while tapping his leg.

He suddenly remembered something. He raised his sleeve, rummaged around for a long time, and pulled out the Black Pagoda.

"Urgh..."

The Black Pagoda was suddenly startled, its entire body trembling.

"Where is this!?"

"You surnamed Chen, what the hell kind of place did you bring me to?"

The Black Pagoda seemed exceptionally terrified.

Chen Changsheng glanced at it and said, "What are you yelling about? This is This Chen's dream."

Hearing these words, the Black Pagoda froze. "A dream?"

It immediately breathed a sigh of relief and said, "So that's how it is. No wonder all the rules of heaven and earth have completely vanished."

Chen Changsheng asked, "Is it that terrifying?"

The Black Pagoda replied, "I'll die."

"Die?"

"Of course. You must have heard of antiquities buried underground for a long time. They will all turn to dust as the years pass by. Although I am an artifact spirit, if I stay too long in this lawless dream of yours, I will end up just like those antiquities."
