Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1052: Bowing Again and Again

Zisu finally lowered her head.

She took two steps forward and let out a long breath. "Senior Brother, do you still remember Senior Brother Nanxing?"

Changshan froze, then suddenly stood up.

"Nanxing... Nanxing..."

Realization suddenly dawned on him, and he stared intently at Zisu.

"Nanxing is already dead!"

Zisu stiffened for a moment at those words. She turned her head, her voice completely calm. "The heavens have Reincarnation, and the earth has the Yellow Springs. When a person's soul falls into the Yellow Springs, it may no longer be in the Mortal World, but it definitely still exists between heaven and earth."

"You want to bring the dead back to life?!"

Changshan's eyes went wide. "You're crazy!"

Changshan stepped forward, grabbed Zisu by the shoulders, and shook her. "Wake up! Master taught us years ago that birth, aging, illness, and death are the natural laws of the world. They cannot be reversed, and we must not lose ourselves to them. What is wrong with you now? How can you not understand such a simple truth?"

Zisu said nothing. She merely looked at Changshan in silence.

"So you also think I cannot do it, Senior Brother?"

Changshan paused. "It is simply impossible—it is something that cannot be done!"

But no matter what Changshan said, Zisu clearly wasn't listening. When a person's obsession lingered for so many years, no amount of persuasion could sway her mind. Even if she battered her head against a brick wall, she would only think her Dao Cultivation was lacking, not that her goal was impossible.

"It is possible!"

Zisu reached out and gripped Changshan's shoulders. "Senior Brother, you don't understand..."

"I was just a little girl Master picked up from a ruined temple. In those times, I had no parents. I begged everywhere, but no one paid any attention to me. Even the little beggars who were barely older than me could scrounge up some food, but I just couldn't. To those people, I was just a useless girl. Even if they offered the kindness of a meal, they figured there was no guarantee I'd ever repay them."

"I nearly starved to death!"

Zisu's voice trembled, and her eyes grew red. "It was Senior Brother Nanxing who shared a bite of the food he begged for, and that was the only reason I survived that snowy night. I caught a severe chill. I couldn't move, and I was losing my mind. Senior Brother Nanxing braved the heavy snow, begging for money everywhere just to get a dose of medicine from the Medicine Hall."

"But because he went out in that snow, he caught a terrible fever. No matter how much medicine I fed him, it didn't help. I begged everywhere, asked everyone. I knelt in front of the Medicine Hall doctor's door for a whole day and night, but it was all useless..."

"I killed him! It was me!"

Tears streamed down Zisu's face as she screamed hoarsely.

Changshan stood there, stunned. In all their years together, he had never seen Zisu lose control like this. She had always been a delicate young lady, yet now she was sobbing uncontrollably.

"Why..."

"Why did you never tell us about this?"

Zisu bowed her head, murmuring over and over, "I killed him. I killed him..."

Back in the Daoist temple, Zisu had been the most diligent when seeking the Dao. She believed that if she practiced Daoist arts, she could resurrect Senior Brother Nanxing. She didn't dare say it out loud, terrified that Master would think her intentions were impure and drive her down the mountain. If that happened, she would truly have no options left.

She read the Daoist scriptures countless times, scouring every kind of text over and over, but she could never find a method to bring the dead back to life. She almost wanted to give up, until later, when she was enlightened by an immortal in the northern lands and entered this Cultivation World...

It was from that moment on that the obsession in her heart began to magnify. It grew until she was endlessly experimenting with corpses and souls, even going so far as to mutilate departed spirits.

It was that very obsession, rooted in her childhood, that had turned her into what she was today.

Zisu gripped Changshan's arm. "Senior Brother, you have to believe me. I already have a lead. It won't be long now. Soon, Senior Brother Nanxing will come back, Master will come back, and Senior Brother Shang too. They all will. We'll be together again, just like when we were little, eating simple meals in the temple, chanting scriptures, and meditating. Senior Brother..."

Changshan forcefully pried Zisu's hands off him. "Junior Sister! If you keep going down this path, you will fall into the demonic path!"

"There is no way to bring the dead back to life! Dead is dead, Junior Sister! You've read the Daoist scriptures. You've practiced Immortal Arts for sixty years. How can you not understand such a simple truth? There is no resurrection! None!"

Zisu froze, then shouted back, "There is!!"

Changshan stared blankly. Shaking his head, he muttered, "Junior Sister..."

"Everyone says there isn't!"

Zisu wiped away her tears, her gaze turning cold. "But I say there is! There has to be! There absolutely is! So what if it means defying the heavens? I was the one who killed him. At worst, I will trade my life for his!"

"I need him to live! I will absolutely bring him back to life!"

With that, Zisu flew out of the Cave Abode.

"Where are you going?!"

Changshan jolted and hurriedly chased after her.

But he only saw Zisu's figure leaping lightly through the mountains, turning into a fleeting streak of light as she flew outward.

Changshan was just about to pursue her when a voice rang out.

"Don't go. Let her leave."

Changshan froze. He looked back to see a woman who looked like a Daoist nun standing behind him, carrying a Wine Gourd in her hand. Her face was slightly flushed, as if she were drunk.

"Honored Master," Changshan called out.

The Daoist nun shook her head and sighed. "Her natural talent is extraordinary. She should have become an unmatched genius of this Cultivation World, yet she developed such an inner demon at a young age. I've tried countless times, but I still can't break this inner demon of hers. Ever since she stepped onto the path of Cultivation, that inner demon has gradually grown until it spiraled completely out of control. She is too stubborn. No one can talk her out of it."

Changshan opened his mouth to speak. "Honored Master, is there really no way at all? If Junior Sister Zisu continues like this, isn't she... walking a path to her own death?"

The Daoist nun took a sip of wine. "People will always have moments like this. Weren't you the same? Didn't the former Vice Minister also walk that path to death? You should know better than anyone that she cannot be stopped."

"But if Zisu truly falls into the demonic path and brings disaster to the world, what then...?"

"She knows her limits."

The Daoist nun said, "My disciple wouldn't be that foolish."

She stepped forward and patted Changshan on the back. "Go back. She won't return, and she won't let you find her unless she wants to come back herself."

Changshan's lips parted slightly, the words catching in his throat, unable to come out.

He lowered his head.

And then, he knelt to the ground.

"Honored Master, Changshan cannot set his heart at ease."

The Daoist nun paused, then simply waved her hand dismissively.

"Then go."

Changshan leaned forward and kowtowed, bowing again and again.

"Thank you, Honored Master, for granting my request."
