Changshan coldly drew the sword from his back.
He never imagined the day would come when he and his Junior Sister would cross swords.
Seeing him rise, Zisu merely raised an eyebrow, and an invisible, oppressive aura immediately swept toward Changshan.
Behind her, flames engulfed Shengxue Kingdom, reaching for the heavens. Endless screams and roars echoed in the air. For a fleeting moment, she looked as if she had stepped out of the Demon Abyss.
Changshan found it difficult to move. His Dao Cultivation had never matched Zisu's. He had entered the sect later, leaving a vast disparity in their Pre-Heaven foundations—not to mention that Zisu had now succumbed to the demonic path.
"Ngh..."
A strained grunt escaped Changshan as he tried to force his body to move, but it seemed utterly futile.
In the next moment, Zisu raised her sword and thrust the point straight toward Changshan's throat.
"Hum."
Changshan let out a low roar. "Junior Sister!"
The sword halted right before Changshan's eyes.
Zisu fell into a momentary daze, but her gaze turned sharp again an instant later. Forcing her hand forward, she ruthlessly thrust the blade toward Changshan.
"Clang!"
The blade shuddered.
Changshan had already closed his eyes, bracing for his own death.
Yet the piercing pain he expected never arrived.
When he opened his eyes, he saw that the sword before him had been trapped by the Daoist rhythm of heaven and earth, unable to advance or retreat.
Zisu froze, suddenly caught by surprise.
"Who is it?!"
She saw a figure in green robes arrive upon a flying sword.
Chen Changsheng looked toward the two of them and said, "It seems This Chen arrived just in time."
Changshan froze for a moment, then flushed and called out, "Mister Chen."
Zisu was also slightly taken aback and muttered, "Grand Mister..."
But immediately after, a hiss escaped Zisu's lips as she was seized by an inexplicable headache.
Chen Changsheng stepped forward, seizing the opportunity to snatch the sword from her hand.
Zisu suddenly jolted awake, but the sword had already left her grip.
Chen Changsheng examined the sword. It was meant to be pure white and Flawless, but now it was disturbed by demonic qi, inexplicably looking somewhat sinister.
Zisu froze and said, "Grand Mister, please..."
"...return the sword to Zisu."
Chen Changsheng gripped the sword and looked at her, asking, "Drawing your sword to kill your Senior Brother—if Priest Xuanhuang knew of this, I fear he would struggle to find peace even beneath the nine springs."
Zisu looked at him and said rigidly, "This is none of your business, Grand Mister."
"How does it not concern This Chen? Before your Master departed, he entrusted you to This Chen, asking me to look after you. In every sense, there is nothing inappropriate about This Chen coming here."
Chen Changsheng said, then casually tossed the sword onto the ground.
He shot Zisu a glance, then turned to look at the small city that resembled a purgatory in the Mortal World.
Who knew how many years it had taken for this nation to reach its current state. Only in a place like this, with sparse Spiritual Energy and a meager population, had it avoided being targeted by the cultivators of the Cultivation World, yet now it had nearly been destroyed in an instant.
Chen Changsheng reached out his hand, holding two fingers vertically in front of him, and began to chant the Mind-Calming Incantation.
"The clear mind is like water; the clear water is the mind. When no breeze stirs, the waves remain entirely still..."
The chanting of the Daoist scripture echoed throughout the city.
Atop the high mountain, a gentle breeze began to stir.
Snowflakes drifted down from the sky, accompanied by a biting, frigid wind that smothered the massive fire in the dark city.
As the Mind-Calming Incantation rang by their ears, the crimson hue in their eyes slowly receded, gradually revealing a sliver of clarity.
Zisu watched this scene. The demonic qi on her body roiled, and unwilling resentment immediately took root and grew in her heart.
She suddenly stepped forward and picked up the sword from the ground.
The instant demonic qi flared in her eyes, she raised the sword and thrust it straight toward the back of Chen Changsheng's heart.
Changshan was greatly shocked by this sight and cried out, "Mister, look out!"
"Clink!"
But as the sword approached, it was blocked by an invisible barrier.
The sword in her hand could not advance a single inch.
Seeing that the situation was bad, Zisu retracted her sword and prepared to flee.
Unexpectedly, Changshan had already blocked her path.
"Junior Sister!" Changshan's gaze turned a few degrees colder as he said, "You are not going anywhere today!"
Zisu's gaze shifted between Changshan and Chen Changsheng.
She instantly panicked, and the next moment, her eyes suddenly turned slightly red.
She blinked and said, "Senior Brother, it is me, Zisu. Do you really have the heart to watch me..."
When Zisu spoke those words, Changshan's heart was touched for a brief moment.
But in that very moment, Zisu took the opportunity to step forward and flicked the sword right out of Changshan's hand with her own blade.
In the span of a single breath, she swept past Changshan and fled toward the vast snow-covered mountains.
Changshan froze. He picked up his sword, glanced at the Mister who was still chanting the Daoist scripture, and after a moment of hesitation, chased after her anyway.
The Mind-Calming Incantation took effect.
The commoners in the city gradually regained their senses.
But when some of them opened their eyes, they immediately fainted away again.
"Where is this..."
"What happened..."
"Blood! Blood! It's all blood! Ah!!"
Accompanied by bouts of terrified screams, more and more people regained their senses.
After a brief moment of peace, the city fell into chaos once again.
Fortunately, the heavy snowfall temporarily suppressed the endless fires in the city, preventing the place from being completely destroyed.
"Where is my son?"
"Have you seen my son?"
"He is quite tall and thin, with a mole by his eye... Did anyone see him?"
A woman searched everywhere among the panicked crowd.
In a panic, she ran back to her home.
Unexpectedly, she discovered her son's corpse inside the house.
"My son!!"
The woman immediately rushed forward and burst into loud sobs.
But the moment she touched him, she clearly saw several finger holes on his corpse.
She shuddered.
She raised her own blood-stained hand.
Trembling, she fitted her hand over the wounds.
They matched perfectly.
"Ah!!"
The woman let out a hoarse shriek.
Discovering the truth, she fell into a mad daze and slammed her head into the stone pillar in the house.
With a loud thud, blood flowed down the woman's forehead. She collapsed and twitched once or twice, then ceased breathing completely, her eyes locked in a dead stare.
Tragedies continuously occurred throughout the city.
Under the effects of the Blood Pill, some had killed their own friends and family with their bare hands; without exception, every person left alive had hands stained with blood.
Shengxue Kingdom had suffered an undeserved calamity.
The root of it all originated from two Elixir Pills, along with the greed and selfishness of human nature.
The one in power would rather have everyone buried with her than hand over the antidote, while the one seizing power did not hesitate to turn this place into a purgatory just to take the throne.
It was a farce.
Yet it was also very real suffering.
In this vast snowy land, only a stretch of blood red remained, along with the white smoke rising from the extinguished fires.
Chen Changsheng stopped his incantation and opened his eyes to look.
He could only let out a long sigh.
