Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1074: Young Master Jing?

The Blind Man knew quite a few things.

When Chen Changsheng first arrived in Shangjing City, he had rushed to meet him but narrowly missed his chance. Left with no other choice, he had settled down in Shangjing City for the time being.

The main reason he hadn't followed Ruyi heading south was Prince Jin. On the journey south, running into eccentric individuals working under Prince Jin's command would be inevitable.

In earlier years, Prince Jin had coveted White Night. The Blind Man knew his own limitations; lacking the capability to go up against the prince, he could only quietly hunker down here.

"I beg you to help me with this small favor, miss. I would be endlessly grateful!"

Hearing this, Ruyi fell into thought. She didn't agree right away, asking instead, "What exactly do you want to beg of Uncle Chen? You had better tell the truth."

Seeing her reaction, the Blind Man understood.

He knew that if he didn't provide a proper explanation, Ruyi would likely never agree.

The Blind Man let out a soft sigh and proceeded to recount the events of the past, one by one.

Then he spoke of Water's End City...

And finally, how the organization known as White Night came to be.

He lowered his head and said, "I merely want to beg him to grant me two days of freedom before I die. Even one day, or half a day, would be fine..."

After hearing him out, Ruyi's expression shifted rapidly.

Only then did she realize that the man before her wasn't pitiful in the slightest—he was utterly detestable!

Ruyi glared at him coldly. "You should have died a long time ago!"

"I have sincerely repented!"

"Not everyone in this world is a monk! There's no such thing as dropping the butcher's knife and instantly becoming a Buddha! That's absolute bullshit!"

Ruyi said, "The rule of this world is that blood debts are paid in blood!"

The Blind Man heaved a long sigh and hung his head.

Looking at him, Ruyi spat, "If I were Uncle Chen, I would have chopped your head off right then and there to feed the dogs!"

That was, indeed, exactly something she would do.

Having wandered the jianghu for so many years, the people she hated most were traffickers. First were those who abducted children, and second were those who trafficked women. These scum were thousands, tens of thousands of times worse than the murderous villains of the jianghu!

"For the sake of my diligent service all these years, please help me with this small favor. My days are numbered... I beg you..."

The Blind Man spoke very softly, likely due to his extreme old age.

Back then, Chen Changsheng had given him abilities far beyond ordinary men, but it hadn't granted him much extra lifespan. An ordinary person in his state would have been reduced to white bones long ago. He had stubbornly survived for a few extra years—or rather, he had suffered in torment for a few extra years.

Thinking about it, Ruyi felt that Uncle Chen handling it this way was for the best.

Death would have been letting this man off too easily.

But on second thought, she did feel a flicker of genuine pity for him.

Because the Blind Man was right—he had indeed worked diligently all these years. He had helped Ping'an considerably and had even built White Night up to an unprecedented height.

Now, this man was begging her.

Naturally, Ruyi didn't want to pay him any mind, but after weighing the matter back and forth, she finally agreed.

"I will only mention it to him once."

Hearing this, the Blind Man hurriedly thanked her.

Ruyi watched him coughing incessantly, looking every bit a man at the twilight of his life. At this point, any remaining shred of pity in her heart vanished completely.

She turned and walked out, not uttering a single word more to him.

Tang Yuerong and the manager were waiting outside. Upon seeing Ruyi emerge, Tang Yuerong let out a breath of relief and asked, "How did it go?"

Ruyi waved her hand. "It's no big deal. Just a detestable person, that's all..."

The manager said nothing, merely offering an apologetic smile.

"Allow me to escort you two out."

The group walked through the hidden passage.

The manager didn't ask a single question, remaining highly respectful the entire way.

Ruyi didn't mention the old man either, simply walking forward in silence.

"Tap..."

A footstep echoed, and the manager whipped his head around.

"Who's there?!"

The candlelight swept over the area, just in time to illuminate a leg flashing past a fork in the tunnel.

The manager was instantly alarmed. "Please do not wander off, you two. I will be right back!"

Leaving the candle behind, the manager immediately chased after the figure.

Tang Yuerong couldn't react in time. She paused and asked, "What is going on?"

Ruyi crossed her arms and said, "Someone must have snuck in."

Taking the candle, she added, "Let's leave first. It's really uncomfortable staying in this wretched place."

"Sister Wang, do you remember the way?"

"Naturally."

Ruyi confidently vouched for herself.

But unsurprisingly, she led Tang Yuerong straight into getting utterly lost in the underground passages.

Tang Yuerong voiced her doubts, asking, "Sister Wang, do you truly remember the way?"

Ruyi scratched her head and pointed in a direction.

"This way!"

"Ah, no, maybe this way."

"..."

Tang Yuerong immediately understood the situation and said, "Why don't we just wait right here for the manager to return?"

Ruyi replied, "Don't worry, there's always a way out."

"Is... is that so..."

Half-believing and half-doubting, they walked for who knew how long.

The two of them were completely lost.

Ruyi couldn't help but sigh. "If only Lihua were here. Its nose is the sharpest."

Tang Yuerong smiled helplessly, her mind solely focused on figuring out how to get out.

Just as she was thinking, footsteps echoed from within the hidden passage, quickly followed by a shout.

"Don't run!!"

It was the manager's voice.

Immediately after, a figure darted in their direction.

Seeing this, Ruyi instantly straightened up.

The moment the intruder rushed past, she reached out and grabbed him!

"So you're the one who made us..."

The intruder stumbled, then turned his head to look at the person who had suddenly lunged out to catch him.

Their eyes met. Under the illumination of the candle, they saw each other's faces clearly.

"Hm?!"

Ruyi let out a sound of absolute disbelief.

Yan Nantian also froze in shock, never expecting to run into Ruyi here of all places.

In the brief moment Ruyi was stunned, Yan Nantian abruptly struggled, causing her grip to slip and letting him break free.

The manager's figure came whistling over.

"Ruyi the Spear Immortal, that intruder..."

"He ran that way!"

Ruyi casually pointed in a random direction, and the manager immediately chased after him.

The underground paths were intricate and complex. Trying to catch someone down here was an especially troublesome task.

Not to mention he was now chasing in the wrong direction entirely.

Seeing the manager disappear into the distance, Tang Yuerong muttered, "Sister Wang, if I wasn't seeing things, wasn't that Young Master Jing just now?"

Ruyi nodded and said, "It was him."

Tang Yuerong pondered this. "Why would he be here?"

Ruyi shook her head, unable to figure it out either.

But she didn't seem particularly surprised.

From Ruyi's perspective, Jingnan definitely hadn't followed her all the way to Shangjing City just for those fifty-odd silver taels. He absolutely had an ulterior motive.

As Tang Yuerong thought it over, she suddenly remembered something.

When they first met, she had felt that the man looked familiar, but hadn't thought too deeply about it at the time.

Now, she suddenly recalled a Painted Scroll handed to her previously by one of the managers under her command.

That Young Master Jing seemed to bear some resemblance to the Prince Yu in that portrait.
