Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1099: This Chen Let You Down

Tang Yuerong silently committed the matter to memory.

Her father had been so busy that he had never even left instructions about these matters. She had asked several of the old shopkeepers but learned nothing. Now, hearing of this conversation from years ago through Tang Wenzheng, her heart finally felt a little more settled.

At least she now understood a little of what her father had been thinking back then.

In the days that followed, she took up residence at the Tang Manor in Oulianfang.

The estate was very old, its marks of age running deep. The water vat in the courtyard, the moss on the steps of the ancestral hall, and the weeds sprouting from the roof tiles—grown from seeds blown in from who knew where.

Suddenly, she found herself with nothing to do.

She brought out a rocking chair and simply sat in the courtyard.

Rocking gently.

Tang Yuerong felt incredibly relaxed, yet there was a lingering emptiness in her heart.

She thought she would adapt—stop driving herself like a man, and properly live as a woman for once.

...

Mo Yuan took Yu Hongjin everywhere in search of a cure.

They crossed great rivers, traversed the Desolate Sea, went north to Tianji Mountain, and headed south to Qiongming Immortal Island. They saw many apothecaries and visited several highly respected seniors in the Cultivation World.

Mo Yuan was, after all, the ruler of Beicang and a living True Dragon. Others would naturally give him this bit of face.

But they met with many people, great and small.

Yet after seeing Yu Hongjin's condition, they either avoided the matter like the plague or admitted they were entirely powerless.

Giving face was one thing, but if there truly was no solution, then they were simply helpless.

Yu Hongjin's condition grew increasingly severe.

It was likely because the qi destiny in the Cultivation World was far too chaotic. This caused her to subconsciously attract even more qi destiny and karmic debt, and the clashes between the yin and yang fish became increasingly frequent.

During several flare-ups, Yu Hongjin found it nearly impossible to suppress and would simply pass out.

Looking exhausted, Yu Hongjin asked, "Mo Yuan, tell me, am I going to die?"

Hearing this, Mo Yuan scolded, "What nonsense are you saying? How could you die? The world is so vast; someone will definitely be able to cure you."

Yu Hongjin let out a sigh and said, "I regret it..."

"If I had known, I wouldn't have clashed head-on with that ox-nosed Daoist. As long as the green hills remain, there will always be firewood to burn."

"Now you regret it?"

Mo Yuan chuckled and rubbed her head. "But it's fine. It shouldn't be a big problem."

Yu Hongjin smacked her lips and muttered, "Are we going to end up having to beg that man surnamed Chen in the end?"

"I'm sure Mister Chen will have a way."

"Is that so..."

In truth, Yu Hongjin was somewhat reluctant to see the man.

Because of what happened with Sister Yun, she still couldn't let it go.

"You don't want to see Mister Chen?"

"No..."

Yu Hongjin paused, feeling conflicted.

She respected Chen Changsheng, as he had, after all, shown kindness to her and to Sister Zhishu. But he had let down Sister Yun's feelings. She had waited and waited, and that wait had consumed her entire life.

Sister Yun was the person closest to her.

"Let's keep looking. If we can avoid troubling Mister Chen, that would naturally be best."

"Yeah."

Afterward, the two of them visited several more Immortal Mountains.

They even sought out several reclusive cultivators who never showed their faces to the world.

Yu Hongjin's illness had come about strangely. She could suppress the karmic debt herself, but that karma was simply too extraordinary, rendering such attempts futile. Cultivators in this world knew little about cultivation methods involving qi destiny and karmic debt, making it even harder to prescribe a remedy. Thus, a cure remained elusive.

"Summer is about to arrive in the Mortal World..."

Yu Hongjin's condition grew increasingly worse.

She knew she had reached a point of helplessness. Her only option left was to seek out Mister Chen.

"Let's go find Mister Chen."

"Alright."

Yu Hongjin didn't refuse or hesitate any longer.

This was probably her only chance at survival.

Mo Yuan took her into the Desolate Sea, heading toward the forbidden grounds spoken of by the people of the Cultivation World. This so-called forbidden ground was a place where a realm had once shattered and the Heavenly Dao had fallen into chaos, drawing ten thousand lightning strikes and summoning evil spirits.

Several major sects of the Cultivation World had joined forces to leave a Restrictive Seal here, keeping idle wanderers away.

Mo Yuan didn't enter either. He merely brought Yu Hongjin to rest on an island at its edge.

Then, they waited quietly.

The Mister would return during Huaixu. Years ago, he had heard that the Mister was heading south from the north. They might be able to wait for the Mister here. If there was no other way, they would just have to make a trip to the Mortal World.

The wind on the Lone Island was fierce.

Yu Hongjin walked along the shore. They had only been there for a few days, yet the island had already been shrouded by her karmic debt, making it feel like a land of the dead.

Two days later, the vegetation withered, and the living creatures in the surrounding Desolate Sea no longer dared to approach this place.

"I'm like a jinx."

Yu Hongjin smacked her lips and kicked a stone on the shore.

She sighed softly, gazing out.

Scattered across the surface of the sea, faint, crystalline glimmers began to rise.

Something was floating up. Against the setting sun, it looked somewhat blinding.

Yu Hongjin raised a hand to shield her eyes, squinting as she looked over.

She watched as those specks of light gradually gathered together, transforming into a human figure in the blink of an eye.

Yu Hongjin froze. The moment she lowered her hand, she saw the light gradually fade, and the figure of Mister Qingshan appeared before her eyes.

Mo Yuan sensed it as well. He rose and went to the shore.

"Mister Chen."

...

Chen Changsheng set about examining Yu Hongjin's condition.

It was indeed far from optimistic.

The karmic debt had now firmly suppressed her qi destiny. If it continued in such a chaotic state, she would completely lose control.

"Mister Chen, am I going to die?" Yu Hongjin asked anxiously.

Chen Changsheng looked at her. Seeing the worry in her eyes, he asked, "Even you, Yu Hongjin, are afraid of death?"

Yu Hongjin smacked her lips. "Of course I am. I still have a lot of wine stashed away that I haven't finished. It'd be better to die after I drink it all."

Chen Changsheng didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but then he said, "Rest assured, you won't die."

Afterward, Chen Changsheng said a word to Mo Yuan and took Yu Hongjin elsewhere.

Mo Yuan didn't know where they went.

Roughly a day and a night passed before Mister Chen's figure reappeared.

The Mister appeared before him, carrying a fast-asleep Yu Hongjin in his arms.

The karmic debt that had shrouded her was gone. The black fish no longer circled within her Dantian. Her qi destiny had formed into a perfect sphere, reigning supreme on its own, and Yu Hongjin was now enveloped in a faint layer of good fortune.

As for Mister Chen...

He was wreathed in karmic debt, his face deathly pale, looking as though he hadn't shut his eyes for days on end.

"Mister, you..."

Chen Changsheng lightly patted Mo Yuan's shoulder and said, "This is a burden This Chen was meant to endure. This karmic debt originated from This Chen, passed through your hands, and fell upon Hongjin. For it to return to This Chen now is simply the destined course of cause and effect."

He continued, "Because of what happened with Miss Yun, this girl resents me in her heart. When she wakes up, do not tell her about this. If she asks where This Chen went, just say I have gone into seclusion."

Wordless, Mo Yuan knelt to the ground and bowed.

"On her behalf, Mo Yuan thanks the Mister for this great grace."

Chen Changsheng shook his head, only saying, "It is This Chen who has let you all down."
