At first, no one paid much attention to the madman who had suddenly appeared. People assumed he would soon fall and die, starve to death, get tormented by street ruffians until his luck ran out, or simply wander away.

But as time passed, everyone began to find it strange.

"Hey, is that madman still wandering the streets?"

"He sure is. Every single day. Who knows what he's roaming around for."

"Wait, what does he even eat?"

"No idea. Probably relies on kind souls to spare him a bite."

"Huh..."

"Hey, you know, I heard that as crazy as he is, he still remembers to drink. Every now and then, he heads to the Yu girl's place at the East End of the Fang to beg for wine."

"Little Sister Yu? At the East End of the Fang?"

"Oh, so this madman was a drunkard even before he lost his mind."

"Probably."

It was getting late, the sun just about to set.

Inside the Yu Family Wine Shop, Yu Youyu was preparing to close up and rest.

Just then, someone arrived.

Yu Youyu saw him and said, "Oh, you're here again."

She looked at the scruffy madman, noticing a new tear on his trouser leg. "Look at you, your clothes are falling apart. Don't tell me you got into a fight with a rabid dog."

The madman just stared at her, not saying a word.

Yu Youyu frowned with worry. "Don't fight with rabid dogs, you hear me? If you get bitten, you'll go crazy, and not even an Immortal could save you."

She caught herself and muttered, "Wait, what am I saying? You're already crazy..."

The madman looked at her, remaining entirely silent.

Yu Youyu sighed softly. "Anyway, just don't fight with rabid dogs, alright?"

With that, she opened a wine jar.

Catching the scent, the madman handed over his Wine Gourd.

Yu Youyu patted the dust off the Wine Gourd. "You're lucky my grandfather isn't around, or there's no way you'd get any wine today. You really can drink. I just filled this up for you the day before yesterday, and you've already finished it. Did you actually drink it all, or did you pour it out? Wine is expensive, you know. It's brewed from grain, and it'd be a real shame to waste it. Ah, never mind. You wouldn't understand a word I'm saying anyway."

After filling the Wine Gourd, Yu Youyu handed it back to him.

The madman kept his head down as Yu Youyu nagged him. "You know how to talk, right? You should say 'thank you,' understand?"

To her surprise, the madman looked up and stared blankly at her.

Yu Youyu paused, then let out a sigh. "Forget it, it doesn't matter. You wouldn't understand anyway."

But for some inexplicable reason, it seemed the madman actually understood.

He took the Sword he carried and placed it on the table in front of her.

"Huh?"

Yu Youyu stared at it in confusion. "What's this supposed to mean?"

She recognized the Sword.

Sometime back, when the madman had been bullied by the street ruffians, they had tried to snatch it away. He had adamantly refused to let go, hugging it tightly to his chest even when beaten.

Crazy as he was, he treated the Sword like an absolute treasure, unwilling to give it to anyone, guarding it with his very life.

"Lending it to you."

The voice rang out.

Yu Youyu blinked in shock. "Wow, you actually spoke!"

The madman offered nothing more in reply, immediately going back to muttering about something else.

"It's all fake. Fake. They're all lying to me. Heh. Hehehe..."

Hearing his ramblings, Yu Youyu knew his madness had taken over again.

"I don't want your Sword. Keep it yourself. Isn't it your precious treasure? You—"

Before Yu Youyu could hand the Sword back, the madman had already turned and walked away.

Yu Youyu grabbed the Sword and chased after him, but the madman moved surprisingly fast. In the blink of an eye, he was completely gone.

She stood there speechless, unable to understand why the madman would "lend" his precious treasure to her.

That was the word he used—"lend."

It seemed the madman was still unwilling to truly give the treasure away.

Yu Youyu sighed softly. "What does a young woman like me need a Sword for? Honestly, I thought he was actually parting with it, but he was only lending it. It must be incredibly important to him."

After a moment's thought, Yu Youyu decided to just return it the next time the madman came by.

"I'll give it back next time."

With that decided, Yu Youyu closed the wine shop's doors and went to rest.

The sky turned dark.

Drinking from his gourd, the madman wandered aimlessly through the streets of Qingtian Ward. He eventually found a deserted corner, sat down, and drank in solitude.

He was always like this.

When tired, he would simply lie on the ground and sleep.

"Hey, hey! Madman! I've been looking all over for you! How did you end up all the way over here?"

The one who had tracked him down was a young man.

The youth was impeccably dressed, with a highly valuable Jade Pendant hanging from his waist. At a glance, anyone could tell he came from a wealthy family.

This youth was Young Master Tian, the son of Master Tian of Qingtian Ward. The Tian Family had been merchants for generations and had deep ties with the Local Government. They handled most of the rice trade in Qingtian Ward, giving them wealth rivaling a state—or, at the very least, they were the undisputed wealthiest in Qingtian Ward.

Seeing that the madman wasn't speaking, Young Master Tian raised an eyebrow and fished a steamed bun out of his sleeve.

"I'll give you this bun if you finish the story you were telling last time. How about it?"

Young Master Tian waved the bun in front of the madman's face, waiting for a reaction.

The madman didn't even spare it a glance, continuing to drink in silence.

Young Master Tian gaped. "I say, aren't you hungry? It's a bun! And there's meat inside, not vegetables! Delicious, savory meat!"

Still, the madman remained entirely silent.

Feeling completely helpless, Young Master Tian simply sat down next to him and started eating the bun himself.

"If you won't eat it, I will."

He muttered through mouthfuls of food, "I really don't get it. I'm the dignified young master of the Tian Family, yet here I am keeping a madman company and making a total fool of myself."

"Seriously, madman, can't you just finish the story you started last time? The suspense is killing me! Did Lord Guan manage to hold Jingzhou or not? And what about..."

Young Master Tian rambled on and on, chattering away.

Before long, he had finished the meat bun.

Yet the madman hadn't said a single word in return.

"Madman? Would it kill you to say something?"

Young Master Tian turned to look, only to find that the madman had passed out drunk at some point.

He was hugging his Wine Gourd, snoring loud enough to wake the dead.

Annoyed, Young Master Tian scoffed. "Unbelievable. You actually fell asleep. You really don't take me seriously at all, do you?"

"Since you love drinking so much, I'm taking your Wine Gourd. Let's see what you drink then."

But even after using every ounce of his strength, Young Master Tian couldn't pry the Wine Gourd free. The madman was holding onto it with just one hand, yet his grip was like iron, and the gourd wouldn't budge an inch.

Sweating from the exertion, Young Master Tian couldn't help but mutter, "This is truly bizarre."
