Yet before Xiao Dongxu could emerge from the Library Pavilion, Zhong Zhengyuan had already left Tianji Mountain.
He headed to the Mortal World, seeking a way to enter the Yellow Springs Underworld.
He left Xiao Dongxu with absolutely no means of finding him, having obscured the heavenly secrets to make his whereabouts impossible to divine.
Meanwhile.
Elsewhere in the Mortal World.
Wind and thunder churned as a thunder tribulation roared across the heavens.
Amid the torrential rain, a tremor of fear gripped the tiger demon hiding in the mountains.
For several days now, the heavy rain and heavenly thunder had pursued him without pause. The moment the sky darkened, he would have to flee for his life.
"Heaven wants me dead. Heaven truly wants me dead..."
Ever since Emperor Shunzhi stripped him of his celestial official position and brought down heavenly punishment, he had been reduced to this wretched state.
In his moment of despair, Tu Hu raised his hand, only to see a Token resting in his palm.
This was his last way out.
After a brief hesitation, the Token slowly floated into the air, guiding him in a certain direction.
...
Reincarnation had already descended upon the world.
When the Token appeared before the city god Immortal, a great set of doors crashed open.
Tu Hu cast one last glance at the path he had traveled. Harboring unease and apprehension, he stepped through the doors.
The unknown lay beyond, but it was also his chance at survival.
The world spun, as if the stars themselves were shifting.
Suddenly, he was submerged in a murky yellow current.
Gasping for breath, Tu Hu struggled to his feet, only to be knocked down again by the churning waves of the Yellow Springs. After endless torment, he was finally washed ashore.
Staggering to his feet, he saw endless yellow sand stretching before him. A gloomy night sky hung overhead, devoid of stars, with only a waning moon suspended above.
Looking around, he noticed countless souls. Some wore blank expressions, as if they had wandered this Sand Sea for ages. Others had just arrived, lost and confused about where they were or where they needed to go.
"Is this... the Underworld?"
Tu Hu felt a wave of bewilderment, unsure of which way to proceed.
But a moment later, a group of figures appeared over a sand dune.
These men wore armor, grasped long whips, and had swords strapped to their waists. The instant they spotted Tu Hu, their expressions turned fierce.
The group parted, allowing a single person to step forward.
Tu Hu looked at the newcomer. The man had a feminine appearance and held an Immortal Sword. Dense yin energy shrouded his body, and the radiating Sword Intent told Tu Hu that this was not someone he could match.
Jian Shenghua pointed his sword at Tu Hu and shouted, "Insolent! You wicked demon! How dare you trespass into the Underworld!"
Tu Hu froze for a second before explaining, "I am not trespassing. A Token brought me here."
Jian Shenghua frowned.
Tu Hu quickly retrieved the Token and offered it forward.
He continued his explanation, "Mister Chen sent me here."
Hearing that familiar name, Jian Shenghua raised an eyebrow.
Suddenly, murderous intent surged forth.
Jian Shenghua's sword was already pressed against Tu Hu's throat.
Before Tu Hu could even ask why, Jian Shenghua ordered the escorting yin soldiers behind him to detain the tiger demon.
Jian Shenghua then took the Token and sought out Manyue.
"Prefecture Lord, this demon was brought into the Underworld by this Token. He claims Chen Changsheng sent him here."
Manyue accepted the Token and inspected it closely.
"This indeed contains his Magical Power."
Manyue fell into thought.
Jian Shenghua asked, "Prefecture Lord, should we kill this demon to eliminate future troubles, or..."
After a moment of consideration, Manyue replied, "Keep him alive for now. Aren't we still lacking many underworld deputies? This demon possesses some skill, so he can be of temporary use."
Jian Shenghua cautioned, "If this demon is a spy for Chen Changsheng, I fear the consequences will be unimaginable."
Manyue shook her head. "Nothing in the Underworld escapes my eyes. Furthermore, Chen Changsheng went mad long ago. He has no strength left to interfere in these matters."
Jian Shenghua stared in surprise, muttering inwardly, 'Mad?'
He quickly collected himself and agreed, "Yes. Then this subordinate will take his leave."
Manyue nodded. Once Jian Shenghua's figure vanished from the area, a voice rang out.
"Little girl, you should plant some grapes later. Ugh, there's absolutely nothing in this Underworld."
Manyue raised an eyebrow and turned to look, only to see the Evil Phoenix leisurely gnawing on a peach.
Manyue snapped, "If you want to eat them, plant them yourself!"
The Evil Phoenix smacked his lips. "Why so fierce?"
Manyue's expression shifted. She stepped forward, closing the distance between them. "Demon Sovereign, you had better fulfill what you promised me soon, or I will do it myself! And then there will be no need for you to exist!"
The Evil Phoenix smacked his lips again, speaking with complete indifference, "Then go do it. I'd actually like to see if you can manage it on your own."
Manyue narrowed her eyes, bringing down her oppressive aura.
The Evil Phoenix simply waved his hand, immediately dispelling the pressure. He said, "Have some patience. Wait a little longer, just wait. Your matters are important, but mine are just as important. We agreed on this long ago."
Manyue said nothing more. She turned her head away, her gaze settling on a soul in the distance.
The Evil Phoenix added, "I want this done sooner than you do, but it can't be done yet. I have to survive. My soul is still scattered across the Mortal World. Wait a little longer, just wait..."
Manyue let out a long sigh and closed her eyes.
...
The Cultivation World was not at peace, and the Desolate Sea was no exception.
In the frigid, barren lands south of the Desolate Sea, a demon dragon had suddenly emerged. Sweeping north, it subdued seven Demon Kings in the southern reaches. In just a few years, it had claimed a full third of the Desolate Sea's territory.
This speed of conquest was even more terrifying than that of the black dragon from the past.
The demon dragon, its seven subordinate Demon Kings, and the countless aquatic demons under its command became collectively known as the 'Southern Deep.'
Aside from a few scattered Demon King clans, the Desolate Sea was now split in a standoff between Beicang and the Southern Deep.
Many Demon Kings understood the reality of the situation. Remaining neutral in such circumstances was virtually impossible; it was time to choose a side.
Most of the aquatic demons chose Beicang. Firstly, Beicang was an established power, and secondly, it had the backing of a Sovereign. However, many still joined the Southern Deep; after all, the Southern Deep's momentum was far fiercer than Beicang's had ever been.
From that point on, the Desolate Sea completely transformed into a perilous domain.
This unrest in the Desolate Sea also led to several accidents involving Flying Vessels. After cultivators arrived to investigate and learned of the upheaval, Lingyue Immortal Island temporarily suspended its long-distance Flying Vessel routes across the Desolate Sea. Only a few relatively safe, short-distance routes remained operational.
However, these frequent incidents put many people on high alert.
"Across the world, almost no place has been spared, save for the Mortal World."
"Could it be a Tribulation?"
