When Ruyi learned from Yu Youyu that the 'madman' had returned, her heart gave a hard jolt. Abandoning whatever she had been doing, she dashed outside in a frantic rush.
She scoured the streets for any sign of the so-called madman.
Panic gripped her. Terrified of missing him, she searched back and forth, scrutinizing every face on the street. She even checked the roadside beggars, only walking away after carefully verifying they were not him.
Qingtian Ward was not large. She searched without pausing, her heart pounding in her chest.
"Uncle Chen, where are you..."
Ruyi gasped for breath, her pace slowing. Age was catching up to her, and she could gradually feel her body failing to keep up with her will.
She was already a woman in her fifties.
Finally, finally...
Under a bridge by the small river in Qingtian Ward, Ruyi spotted the shadow of a green robe. Even though only a sliver of it showed, it caught her eye.
Once she made out his face, tears spilled down her cheeks.
A soft sob escaped her lips.
She edged closer, gazing at the passed-out drunkard. He still wore a green robe, but that clean, gentle aura from the past was long gone. Instead, his hair was a tangled mess, his face was grimed with dirt, and filth caked his body and fingernails.
Trembling, Ruyi reached out and touched Chen Changsheng's face.
"Uncle. Uncle Chen..."
Ruyi called out softly, wiping away her tears.
The drunken madman roused at the call.
He stared blankly at the woman before him. Yet, amidst that call, a flicker of clarity returned to his eyes, as though he suddenly remembered who she was.
"Ru... yi?"
The madman mumbled her name, but he could not remember anything else. An instant later, a splitting headache seized him.
He let out a sharp hiss and clutched his head.
Ruyi instantly panicked. "Uncle Chen, what's wrong?"
He did not answer. He just clutched his head and collapsed, curling into a ball on the ground as the pain set his body trembling.
Ruyi quickly pulled him into her arms, frantic. "Uncle Chen, don't scare me! Uncle Chen!"
She hastily pulled Chen Changsheng up, saying, "Ruyi will take you back. I'll take Uncle back right now. We'll go find Doctor Tong, he will definitely have a way. He has to..."
Saying this, Ruyi shifted him onto her back and hoisted him up.
But Qingtian Ward was a long way from Qiuyue Fang. Carrying a person all the way back was incredibly difficult. Even with her formidable martial arts, Ruyi did not have a bottomless well of stamina.
As she was leaving the ward, Dong Chiyu caught up to her and said, "Are you crazy? How are you going to carry him all that way?"
Ruyi stared at her, her eyes revealing a complex mix of emotions. She looked as lost as a frightened child. Panic and helplessness overwhelmed her, leaving her with no mind to think of a plan.
"What do I do, what do I do..."
She repeated the words, unable to calm herself.
Lihua bounded up behind them, panting. "Lihua will go find help! Wait for me! Just wait for me!"
Qingtian Ward was not far from the Tongtian River.
Lihua picked up the pace, reaching the riverbank in less than half a shichen.
It immediately plunged headfirst into the water and vanished without a trace.
Before long, Ruyi and Dong Chiyu also arrived.
By the time they reached the bank with Chen Changsheng, Lihua had already popped back out of the river. It was shaking itself off, soaking wet and looking quite miserable.
"How is it?" Dong Chiyu asked.
"Someone's coming right away!" Lihua said.
Just as the words left its mouth, a silhouette surfaced from the depths. A white dragon churned the river water, and the surging current rushed upward like a reverse waterfall shooting toward the nine heavens.
The rising water mist obscured their vision.
When the spray finally settled, a cleanly dressed woman with delicate features stood before them.
Dong Chiyu was too shocked by the sight to speak.
It took Ruyi a moment to gather her wits, but then she remembered the person before her.
She had met her before!
Ying En hurried over to Ruyi's side and looked at Chen Changsheng. "What happened to Uncle Chen?"
Ruyi looked at her and said, "Uncle... he seems to have gone mad."
Ying En froze, the color draining from her face.
She immediately whisked Chen Changsheng, Ruyi, and the others away to the Dragon Palace.
This was no small matter. With Uncle Chen's capabilities, who could possibly reduce him to such a state?!
Caught in the rush, Dong Chiyu did not even process what was happening. In the blink of an eye, the woman transformed into a white dragon and pulled them deep underwater. As their vision blurred, the scenery of the riverbed swept into full view.
Before long, they passed through a separate realm beneath the river and arrived before a magnificent towering palace. Crafted from crystal and colored glass, it gleamed with blinding, resplendent brilliance. Water demons stood guard around the perimeter, maintaining a strict security that left them in awe.
Forgoing pleasantries for the emergency, Ying En led them straight into the Dragon Palace's Coral Garden.
The Old Dragon King, Ying Zheng, was drinking and dozing off here, lazily watching a beautiful young demon dance before him.
Ying En's arrival shattered this tranquil atmosphere.
But when the Old Dragon King caught sight of the filthy figure they carried in with them, he sobered up in an instant.
"Chen Changsheng..."
The Old Dragon King bolted upright in shock, immediately dismissing the dancers and guards.
He turned to Ying En and asked, "How did he end up like this?"
Ying En stepped forward and said, "Father, Uncle Chen... he seems to have gone mad."
The Old Dragon King froze at this, staring at her in disbelief. "What did you say?"
He strode over and circled Chen Changsheng, studying his expression closely, but he saw that Chen Changsheng was already completely unconscious.
There was no mistake. The man before him was indeed Chen Changsheng.
Ruyi pursed her lips and said, "Dragon Lord, what exactly is wrong with Uncle Chen?"
The Old Dragon King snapped out of his daze and looked over at Ruyi.
He had not recognized her at first, but the memory quickly clicked into place. "You're his niece. I've met you before."
The Old Dragon King opened his mouth, but then said, "As for Mister Chen's current condition..."
He let out a soft sigh and shook his head.
"There are no signs that his soul was forcibly searched. However, his spirit is very amiss. It seems to have slipped into a deep slumber..."
The Old Dragon King hesitated to speak, holding back the rest of his thoughts.
Chen Changsheng's divine sense was vastly diminished!
He had witnessed Chen Changsheng's divine sense years ago. The sheer power of that Fifth Heaven divine sense was still fresh in his memory. Now, however, Chen Changsheng's divine sense did not even reach the First Heaven.
Where did all that missing divine sense go?
Ying En asked, "Father, is there any way to treat Uncle Chen in his current condition?"
The Old Dragon King shook his head and said, "I do not know much about such things. The Yuanshan Fox Clan, however, has a deep understanding of the soul. I will have that fellow surnamed Su make a trip here to see if he can do anything. For now, it is our only option."
With that, he used his Divine Abilities to transmit his voice over a thousand li to Su Junhan.
When Su Junhan received the news, he was absolutely dumbfounded.
Mister Chen had gone mad?
He even wondered if he was finally getting old and going deaf.
