Zhao Yuqing thought the man in front of him might have lost his mind.
He looked at Chen Changsheng and said, "I'm afraid you truly have entered the demonic path. You haven't mastered the abilities, but this paranoid obsession of yours is very real!"
Chen Changsheng let out a breath. "If I don't do this, it will be very hard to make it out of here. That demon used me as a scapegoat. I narrowly survived; how could I possibly let that go?"
Zhao Yuqing shook his head. "A path must be walked one step at a time. How can you be in such a rush?"
Chen Changsheng rejected this. "I walk the demonic path precisely for speed. There is no longer any opportunity for me to take things one step at a time. Once that demon commits a grave atrocity using my body, even if I reclaim it, the oppressive weight of heaven and earth and the scorn of the world will only push me back into the abyss."
Zhao Yuqing's expression faltered.
He did not know how to persuade Chen Changsheng, because the man was absolutely right.
No one knew what that demon intended to do. Perhaps today, perhaps tomorrow, he might turn the world upside down. The most critical point was that the world would never realize it was the demon's doing; they would simply believe it was Chen Changsheng.
Chen Changsheng smiled helplessly and shook his head. "And do you know what? It's completely impossible to explain. Back then, I borrowed the aid of various paths to seize the Yellow Springs. I successfully established the Underworld, but in the end, it allowed demonic energy to slip into the Mortal World through Reincarnation. When everyone sees that demon committing atrocities on the demonic path using my body, what will they think? How am I supposed to explain?"
The Demon Sovereign had laid all the groundwork long ago, trapping Chen Changsheng in this scheme. He had even sealed off his escape routes and severed all his options.
In this grand scheme, Chen Changsheng was merely a scapegoat—even though, according to the Demon Sovereign, Chen Changsheng had once been a part of him.
Zhao Yuqing fell deep into thought. He opened his mouth, unsure of how to advise him, and then decided there was no need to advise him at all.
Sometimes, certain things could only be achieved by risking it all.
It was not strange for Chen Changsheng to harbor such thoughts, given the predicament before him.
Zhao Yuqing couldn't help but imagine himself in that position. He thought he might be even more extreme and impulsive than Chen Changsheng.
He let out a breath and looked at Chen Changsheng.
"I'll help you! But only this once! If anything goes wrong this time, you must abandon this demonic Dream Method."
"You want to turn the tide, but the prerequisite is that you stay alive."
Great Snow Mountain was located at the edge of the Cultivation World.
Great Snow Mountain had existed in the world for many years. Once upon a time, it had shined brilliantly within the Cultivation World. Its reputation had been resounding, no less than that of Lingyue Immortal Island.
But as the saying goes, the sky harbors unforeseen storms, and men face sudden misfortune.
Under the Tribulation, Great Snow Mountain ultimately fell into decline.
Its disciples scattered and its gates collapsed. Ultimately, the surviving sect elders and a small number of disciples came to the fringes of the Cultivation World and rebuilt their sect, changing its name from then on to Great Snow Mountain.
Once, they had possessed a resounding name—Celestial Immortal Pavilion. It was blunt and direct, yet no one had ever dared call them arrogant for it.
Lady Lingluo was the previous sect master of Great Snow Mountain. Later, having entered secluded cultivation and lacking the desire to manage the sect, she stepped down to become an elder. After taking in a disciple and teaching her for a few years, she went back into seclusion and rarely showed her face.
A snowbird flew in through the window.
Lady Lingluo paused and reached out to receive it. A few lines of text immediately materialized before her eyes.
Her gaze swept over it, then abruptly stopped.
"The Mortal World..."
With a wave of her hand, the words before her dissipated.
"Alas."
She sighed softly and replied with a single message. The snowbird flew off, vanishing without a trace.
...
Heading toward Tianji Mountain, Aqing received her master's reply.
It contained only a few sparse words.
"The disputes over qi destiny in the Mortal World are by no means ordinary. Qing'er, you must remember not to let yourself be tainted by them. Do not acknowledge them, do not speak of them, do not ask about them..."
The text before her scattered, turning into water droplets that rained down.
Aboard the Flying Vessel, Aqing felt incredibly bewildered by this message. She had never seen her master give such a reply without any explanation.
It struck her as strange.
Her master viewed this matter with utmost severity, even demanding she show complete disregard for it.
The winds above the Desolate Sea swept up Aqing's Strands of Hair.
She suddenly felt a bit lost.
But that was her home, the place she had come from.
Yet, amid her confusion, she suddenly realized a sense of obedience welling up from the bottom of her heart. It felt as though perhaps her master's words were not wrong.
Aqing did not understand what was wrong with her.
She only felt that this path of Cultivation was far too difficult for her to understand.
She sighed softly, deciding to stop dwelling on these trivial matters. She returned to the cabin, found a spot, and sat down to rest.
The Flying Vessel soon arrived at a location.
Aqing disembarked from the Flying Vessel. There was still a journey of nearly a thousand li to reach Tianji Mountain, but this was the closest Flying Boat Ferry.
However, a thousand li was not considered far for a cultivator.
In just one day, Aqing arrived at the foot of Tianji Mountain.
Aqing beheld this Immortal Sect, one truly worthy of the world's reverence. The Spiritual Energy was abundant, a gathering of spiritual beauty. The Immortal Mountain pierced straight into the clouds, and ethereal Immortal Cranes drifted about.
It was completely different from the bare Great Snow Mountain.
She went up to the sect gates and explained her identity and purpose for coming.
Not long after, Xiao Dongxu—the prodigy hailed by many cultivators in the Cultivation World as the current Chief—came to see her personally.
Aqing was somewhat surprised, mostly by Xiao Dongxu's scholarly air. In this complex Cultivation World, the strong were revered. Yet no matter how one looked at Xiao Dongxu, he exuded a refined and amiable aura, entirely unlike someone who had fought his way up through bloodshed.
The rumors of the outside world were indeed untrustworthy.
"Fellow Daoist Qing, please follow me up the mountain."
They walked all the way up Tianji Mountain.
The surrounding living creatures were peaceful, keeping company with the cultivators. The flora possessed spirit, and even the stubborn rocks held charm. It truly opened Aqing's eyes.
Aqing snapped back to reality, finally remembering her purpose. "Fellow Daoist Xiao, I wonder if you have any news of Changsheng?"
"Changsheng?"
Aqing realized he had misunderstood and clarified, "Chen Changsheng."
Xiao Dongxu reacted, pausing for a moment before asking, "Fellow Daoist Qing knows Mister Chen?"
Aqing nodded. "We are very good friends."
Xiao Dongxu paused, his complexion darkening slightly. He opened his mouth and then said, "Fellow Daoist Qing, come with me."
After they entered the Main Hall, Xiao Dongxu poured a bowl of tea.
Only then did Xiao Dongxu speak. "Fellow Daoist Qing, Mister Chen's situation... is probably not very good."
Aqing froze, asking in confusion, "Not very good?"
She parted her lips and said, "I went to look for Ruyi earlier. She said that Fellow Daoist Xiao seemed to be keeping something from her."
Xiao Dongxu was taken aback, then nodded. "There are indeed some things I did not say..."
"Previously..."
Xiao Dongxu recounted the entire sequence of events from beginning to end.
Upon hearing this, Aqing's heart filled with endless worry, and her expression grew increasingly solemn.
