With a single word of the Dream Method, truth and falsehood intertwined within the illusion.
Within the Underworld lay a tranquil expanse, vast, empty, and utterly silent.
Chen Changsheng sat cross-legged here, his posture set with five hearts facing the sky. Zhao Yuqing stood to the side, gripping a Wooden Sword, waiting quietly.
As Chen Changsheng tilted his head back, a grand dream was born.
Demonic energy surged upward.
It swept up wind and sand. The sky shifted drastically, and the dim Underworld was shrouded in a tide of demonic energy.
Manyue acted just in time, gathering and containing the demonic energy. In an instant, peace seemed to return.
The dream had begun!
Zhao Yuqing raised an eyebrow. Closing his eyes, he sent out his divine sense.
As his voice fell, Zhao Yuqing instantly pulled up the demonic energy surging from the demonic body. As if tugging a rope, he dragged the demonic energy straight into the grand dream.
Zhao Yuqing looked ahead once more.
With this glance, he saw a vast void before him, where countless heavenly palaces and pavilions stood.
With jade steps and jade tiles, golden pillars and magnificent halls, it was impossibly grand.
After a brief moment of shock, he turned back and saw Chen Changsheng situated in the central grand hall, sitting calmly upon the throne.
"Didn't you say this was demonic heresy?" Zhao Yuqing asked. "Why does everything here feel so vast and righteous?"
Chen Changsheng exhaled slowly and opened his eyes.
He chanted softly.
"Mountains and rivers divide the lands, yet the same wind and moon share the sky. The Classic of Mountains and Seas holds countless phenomena. It contains the grand contours of the Nine Provinces, the truth and illusions of gods and monsters, and the enduring survival of humanity."
As Chen Changsheng spoke, the Dream Method responded. A thick tome materialized in his palm.
Zhao Yuqing furrowed his brow.
He then saw the pages of the tome suddenly begin to flip.
The pages came to a halt on an unknown page, resting open under his gaze.
Chen Changsheng's gaze swept over it before he spoke.
"Mountains are the spine of the human realm; the sea is the edge of heaven and earth. To the south lies the Southern Peak, to the north the Northern Extremity. In the east lies the Eastern Sea, and in the west, the Western Regions. Divine spirits and giant beasts lie hidden within. The mountains, rivers, and earth are vast and unfathomable. Across the four directions and eight extremes, gods and monsters are innumerable. In the sea, on the land, and in the sky, the mysteries are endless. Heaven and earth hold wondrous things; Shanhai births Divine Beasts. Divine dragons and divine phoenixes, a myriad of spiritual phenomena, and extraordinary sights fill the world."
"The eight directions each have their lords. In the east is Chiyou; in the south, Nuwa; in the west, the Yellow Emperor; in the north, Fuxi. The divine mountain Kunlun stands in the northeast. In the southeast is the Zhuyan, fierce and vicious by nature. In the southwest lies Luo State, a place steeped in myth. In the Northwest roams the Red Hound, taking joy in devouring men. Amidst Shanhai, the mysteries are boundless."
Chen Changsheng's voice fell.
Scene after scene gradually manifested within the void.
In a mere instant, mountains and seas shifted, and time turned.
The continent of the Nine Provinces appeared before Zhao Yuqing's eyes.
The myriad spirits of the world—humans, demons, ghosts, and gods—flashed in thousands of scenes before his gaze.
Zhao Yuqing marvelled at the transformations. With a single glance, he watched the four seasons turn, and blue seas turned to mulberry fields.
A mere instant felt like tens of millions of years.
A single word became reality, forming the world he saw.
In his daze, Zhao Yuqing muttered, "The Buddhist Faction has a saying: one flower, one world; one leaf, one bodhi..."
In this moment, it seemed to have become real.
One book, one world. One word, one creation.
He saw faction after faction emerge across the Nine Provinces. He saw countless demons appear in this world. He saw the emergence of humans, and he even saw gods...
"There are demons within the book, ever-shifting in myriad forms."
"The Classic of Mountains and Seas states: there is a beast named Qiongqi, shaped like a tiger and bearing wings. Upon Mount Gui, there is a beast shaped like an ox with the quills of a hedgehog, also named Qiongqi. Its cry is like that of a howling dog."
"Upon Mount Gouwu, jade is abundant on its peaks, and copper rich beneath. There is a beast here, shaped with the body of a sheep and the face of a man. Its eyes are beneath its armpits, it possesses tiger teeth and human claws, and its cry is like that of a crying infant. Its name is Taotie."
"Four hundred li to the west lies Mount Xiaoci, rich in white jade upon its peaks and red copper beneath. There is a beast here, shaped like an ape with a white head and red feet. Its name is Zhuyan, and its appearance heralds great war."
"Five hundred li further east is Mount Luwu. The mountain is barren of flora but rich in metal and stone. The Zegeng River flows from it, winding south to pour into the Pang River. Within these waters dwells a beast named Gudiao, shaped like an eagle but bearing a horn. Its cry is like that of an infant."
"West of Kunlun dwells a beast shaped like a dog with long fur and four stout legs, resembling a bear but possessing no claws. It has eyes but cannot see; it walks but goes nowhere. It has ears but cannot hear, yet it senses the approach of men. It has a belly but lacks the five internal organs, and its intestines run completely straight, devoid of any coils. If it meets a man of high virtue, it will violently reject him; if it meets a man of profound wickedness, it will submit and cling to him. Heaven makes it so, and its name is Hundun."
"Five hundred li to the south lies Mount Fuli, rich in gold and jade upon its peaks, and needle-stone beneath. There is a beast here, shaped like a fox but possessing nine tails, nine heads, and the claws of a tiger. Its name is Longzhi, and its cry is like that of an infant."
"There is a beast shaped like a red leopard, with five tails and a single horn. Its cry sounds like striking stones, and its name is Zheng. Upon Mount Tai, rich in gold, jade, and zhen wood, dwells a beast shaped like an ox with a white head, a single eye, and the tail of a snake. Its name is Fei."
...
One unique demon after another manifested before Zhao Yuqing's eyes.
These were demons he had never seen, and even less could he have imagined.
These demons were vastly more bizarre than the myriad demons of the Desolate Sea. The moment they were born, they made him feel somewhat unsettled. A single glance was enough to tell him they were not of a kind nature.
Zhao Yuqing looked up at Chen Changsheng, deeply wanting to understand what he was trying to accomplish.
Tu Hu took in all the changes in the Underworld.
He had hidden here, managing to survive. This place had always been as peaceful as before—only departed souls, only Reincarnation.
Yet today, he saw that billowing demonic energy.
Though it had vanished in an instant, that brief moment was enough for him to see it clearly.
The boundless demonic energy seemed as though it would blanket this entire Underworld.
Tu Hu did not know much about demons. Previously, he had only seen a few demonic cultivators, but none had given him a good feeling.
Then this kind of demonic energy...
Could this be the Demon Sovereign that Jian Shenghua spoke of?
Tu Hu dared not think about it. This was evidently no longer something he could face.
Manyue watched calmly. Here on the outside, Chen Changsheng and Zhao Yuqing simply stood in place, appearing perfectly tranquil.
She simply appeared here, sitting down to wait for the two of them to wake.
Manyue was also curious about what would be in Chen Changsheng's dream.
Having prepared for so long, what kind of result would it bring her?
It was truly enough to make one endlessly curious.
In that dream.
Zhao Yuqing watched this world gradually manifest. Everything was so incomparably real that, for a moment, he was actually dazed, believing the events in this dream had truly become real.
Chen Changsheng continuously chanted. With every sentence that fell, it meant another demon was added to this world.
And what made Zhao Yuqing's heart tremble was that, without exception, none of those demons were of a kind nature. When a beast appeared, it meant great floods toppling mountains; there were also demons of drought and demons of plague. From his mouth, there was not a single good one.
And all this could not really be called demonic, but it was inextricably tied to the word 'heresy'.
Demonic heresy...
Right now, it was only heresy.
Zhao Yuqing knew that what followed would likely be far from simple.
He could not help but look at the demonic energy he had brought into this place. Even now, Chen Changsheng still had not used it.
