Chen Changsheng stared at him and said calmly, "I'll take your word for it."

The Demon Sovereign froze upon hearing this, then burst out laughing.

He shook his head as he laughed, looking so exceptionally crazed it defied understanding.

The Demon Sovereign had been left behind in the Reincarnation Land. This time, no Dream Method accompanied him.

Chen Changsheng, meanwhile, had reclaimed his physical body and walked toward the world that belonged to him.

Before the Gate of Reincarnation.

Manyue watched the demonic body collapse straight to the ground. After a moment of silence, a profound daze washed over her.

But a moment later, she could only sigh and shake her head in silence.

...

First was the Yinglong, second the Fox Lord, and third the qilin...

Perhaps because the world was so volatile, the weather shifted just as unpredictably.

"Rumble..."

"Old Dragon..."

This disorientation felt incredibly familiar to Chen Changsheng, like an old friend, yet it was also the very root of his agony.

He looked up at the sky. The vicious sun beat down, roasting his skin. As the sensations of cold and heat settled over him once more, a profound realization washed over him.

He hadn't walked for long before the sky suddenly darkened. Rolling dark clouds turned the heavens oppressive and suffocating.

After so many years, he had finally returned to his own body, yet everything around him had changed.

On this journey, he would set foot on the path and walk step by step to the peak. He would ask what lay ahead, and he would ask how to break this curse.

Chen Changsheng froze, feeling a searing heat spread across his chest. He lowered his head to look.

"I'm back..."

It was as if he had been born with this ability.

These totems drew in the Spiritual Energy between heaven and earth, endlessly replenishing his body and granting him an inexhaustible supply of Spiritual Energy and Magical Power.

Chen Changsheng drifted into a daze for a split second.

Light pierced his eyes. The stinging pain brought him a measure of clarity.

With this in mind, he looked up and unfurled his divine sense, sweeping it across the world.

He stared at the three totems, finding them increasingly familiar. In a sudden instant, he seemed to understand.

There upon his chest were three totems.

The demonic uprising had swept through the Southern Domain. The lands south of the Sheng River were entirely occupied by the Demon Race. Demons, ghosts, monsters, Immortals, and profound cultivators alike had stirred up massive turmoil in this Mortal World.

Everything has changed.

With a crack of thunder, the surrounding wind, rain, and lightning all surged toward Chen Changsheng.

Chen Changsheng stared blankly.

Rain suddenly poured down, washing over him.

The Yinglong totem gave no reaction, but Chen Changsheng felt an intimate certainty that it was the Old Dragon King from back then.

His arm trembling in disbelief, Chen Changsheng reached out and gently touched it.

"Fox Lord?"

"Mo Yu?"

The two totems gave no response, but the searing heat radiating from his chest left him in a total daze.

Chen Changsheng lifted his head, letting the rain splash across his face.

At this moment, Chen Changsheng looked utterly pathetic. He was like a rat fleeing through the rain—a laughable sight.

"Demon Sovereign!!!"

Chen Changsheng clenched his teeth, his eyes brimming with fury.

His hatred reached its absolute peak, yet he was completely powerless to kill that demon.

If the Demon Sovereign died, Chen Changsheng wouldn't survive either.

They shared the same origin; if the master died, the subordinate would follow.

Chen Changsheng clenched his fists tight, letting out a hoarse roar beneath the gloomy sky.

He screamed himself hoarse, but no one answered.

He didn't understand why all these schemes had to fall upon his head.

Just because he was Chen Changsheng?

Just because of that?!

He roared in defiance. In this very moment, true murderous intent took root in his heart.

The wind and clouds changed color. The world itself seemed to respond, a wail echoing across the heavens as thunder shattered the sky, as if trying to drown out Chen Changsheng's desperate screams.

"Rumble!!"

Thunder roared from all sides between heaven and earth.

It spread endlessly outward.

Chen Changsheng utterly loathed this world.

When he looked up again, the usual tranquility in his eyes was gone, replaced by pure hatred.

His eyes now harbored vengeance!

Waking up after so many years, only to discover that his former friends had died at the hands of his own physical body, refined into totems and branded onto his flesh—who could possibly bear such agony?

Chen Changsheng stood up. With a wave of his hand, his soaked clothes were restored to pristine condition, and his pathetic appearance vanished in a flash.

He stepped forward. His footsteps kicked up heavy splashes of water that slapped loudly against the ground.

A heavy aura of murderous intent permeated the air around him.

This Mister, whose heart had once been as calm as water and who had merely yearned for the mortal realm, now held an unyielding obsession in his eyes—a vow to never stop until his goal was met.

...

It was the first place he needed to visit upon returning to this Mortal World.

Chen Changsheng didn't go see his old acquaintances; instead, he went to find his sword.

When the Listening Rain Sword met Chen Changsheng's gaze, that familiar sensation returned once more.

And when Yu Youyu saw this man standing before her again, she was momentarily stunned.

She frowned and asked, "Why do you seem different?"

Chen Changsheng paused, asking in return, "Have we met?"

In a split second, the memories flooded back.

Within those fragmented memories, he seemed to see the image of the little girl from the Wine Tavern secretly sneaking him some wine.

Yu Youyu blinked in surprise. "Haven't we?"

"We have."

Chen Changsheng nodded.

He looked at Yu Youyu and said, "This Chen now has a use for the sword. Are you willing to return it?"

Yu Youyu paused for a moment before replying, "It was yours to begin with."

"Mn."

Chen Changsheng gave a nod of acknowledgment.

"Thank you for keeping it safe for This Chen all these years. This Chen also thanks you on behalf of Listening Rain."

"It's a small matter..."

Yu Youyu looked at Chen Changsheng, yet felt a deep sense of unfamiliarity.

An inexplicable feeling rose in her heart—it was as if the person standing before her wasn't the same man she had met back then.

It was incredibly strange!

After taking the sword, Chen Changsheng left in a hurry.

Yu Youyu watched his receding figure. She pursed her lips, knowing this man was no longer the Madman from the past. He had grown increasingly foreign, increasingly impossible to read.

"Chen..."

She called out, but didn't know how else to address him.

Chen Changsheng turned back and looked at her.

Yu Youyu said, "Aunt Ruyi passed away. Auntie Dong buried her in Qingshan City. She kept talking about you while she was alive... you should go see her."

Chen Changsheng froze upon hearing this.

Seeing him stand rooted to the spot without reacting for a long time, Yu Youyu asked, "Have you already been there?"

Chen Changsheng snapped back to his senses.

He asked, "When did this happen?"

Yu Youyu replied, "Many years ago."

Chen Changsheng's gaze was infinitely complex. He remained silent for a long time before letting out a long sigh.

"Thank you."

He left in a hurry, never looking back, but his steps seemed far more rushed, and his breathing had grown chaotic.

Yu Youyu stood in place. After handing over the Listening Rain Sword, it was as if she had breathed a sigh of relief, as if she had finally let go of a great burden.

It felt as if her entire life had begun because of this very sword.
