Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1349: Inner Demon Tribulation

During this discourse on the Dao, all three of them gained some insights.

Yun Hengzi cried out in joy; he had not felt such exhilaration in a long time.

He could see clearly that although this fellow Daoist Chen possessed profound Dao Cultivation, he was still somewhat lacking when it came to a discourse on the Dao. His words often seemed naive, but in truth, they pointed directly to the Great Dao. It was the most unadorned Dao, completely devoid of falsehood.

Every time he pondered it deeply, Yun Hengzi cried out in sheer wonder.

This fellow Daoist Chen was truly a fascinating person.

After the discourse on the Dao ended, Chen Changsheng took out an item and asked for his help.

Yun Hengzi stared blankly upon seeing it. "What is this?"

Chen Changsheng said, "This Chen travels the world, desiring to visit every corner of heaven and earth to draw Geographical Maps. I wonder if you have the time to lend This Chen a hand, fellow Daoist."

Yun Hengzi was greatly alarmed upon hearing this. He quickly unrolled the Geographical Map and took a look.

"Brilliant, truly brilliant..."

Yun Hengzi couldn't help but take another look at Chen Changsheng. He asked, "Fellow Daoist Chen, have you truly been to all the places on this Geographical Map?"

"Some I learned of by asking others, but This Chen has visited the vast majority."

Yun Hengzi stared at the Geographical Map for a moment before saying, "Excellent!"

With a raise of his hand, a brush manifested in Yun Hengzi's grasp.

He leaned over and began to paint on the Geographical Map before him.

Searching through his memories from many years ago and using all the traces present on the Geographical Map, he began to draw, bit by bit.

Deeply curious, Zhao Yuqing leaned in for a closer look.

The sky had darkened. A bright moon rose, but its light was obscured by the clouds, rendering their surroundings somewhat dim.

Yun Hengzi gave a casual wave of his hand, and the clouds shrouding the moon overhead entirely dispersed.

The pristine moonlight seemed to converge on the table before them at that very moment.

Chen Changsheng and Zhao Yuqing exchanged a glance.

'Brilliant...'

Chen Changsheng remarked inwardly. This ability to sweep aside the clouds to reveal the moon and gather its light upon the table seemed effortless for the Daoist before them.

Yun Hengzi grew increasingly absorbed as he painted. He nodded continuously; with every region he completed, a smile inevitably graced his face.

With every area he passed over, memories of his experiences there from many years ago surfaced in his mind. This was not merely his Geographical Map. The moment his brush fell, it was like riding a horse and viewing flowers—reminiscing on a lifetime.

Yun Hengzi continued to paint until the break of dawn.

By now, nearly sixty percent of the entire Geographical Map was complete.

At this point, Yun Hengzi found it difficult to put his brush to paper again. He could no longer recall the other places.

Yun Hengzi set down his brush and said, "Fellow Daoist, I have exhausted my efforts to fill in sixty percent. You will need to expend more effort on the remaining forty percent."

Chen Changsheng accepted it with both hands, saying, "By helping me complete an additional twenty percent, you have This Chen's endless gratitude."

Yun Hengzi took a deep breath and said, "In my early years, I too harbored the ambition to travel the world. However, halfway through, I was trapped within the Red Dust. My inner demon surged, and I was forced to turn back. It took several years of ascetic cultivation before I finally slew that inner demon of the Red Dust. As you travel the world, fellow Daoist, you must be extremely wary of the Red Dust of this world, lest you be wounded by it."

Chen Changsheng gave a warm smile upon hearing this and said, "Thank you for the reminder, fellow Daoist. This Chen will certainly be careful."

Yun Hengzi nodded and said, "I have a presumptive remark that I must also share with you."

"Please speak freely, fellow Daoist."

Yun Hengzi looked at Chen Changsheng and said, "Fellow Daoist Chen, your heart lies in the vastness of this world, yet your dao heart is already trapped within the Red Dust. When we engaged in a discourse on the Dao earlier, though it was but a few words, I could hear your evasion of the karma of the Red Dust."

"But in truth, the moment you harbor such thoughts, an inner demon has already begun to breed in the depths of your heart. Sooner or later, it will erupt. As cultivators walking this long, arduous path, we will eventually intersect with the Red Dust. Sometimes, it is not something we can avoid just because we wish to. There is truly no need for you to fear it so deeply, fellow Daoist. This is the fundamental Dao: to slay an inner demon, one must first understand the inner demon."

Chen Changsheng fell into deep thought upon hearing this.

These words also plunged Zhao Yuqing into contemplation.

Yun Hengzi looked at the two and said, "What I have said is merely my own perspective. The two of you have your own Great Daos to walk in the future. The human heart is mysterious, and the dao heart is difficult to decipher. I only wished to offer a reminder; I harbor no other intent."

Chen Changsheng roused himself slightly. Cupping his hands, he said, "Thank you, fellow Daoist."

Zhao Yuqing also nodded, his expression solemn.

As it neared midnight, Chen Changsheng and Zhao Yuqing bid farewell to Yun Hengzi.

They agreed that early the next morning, they would head south. Yun Hengzi would find a suitable location for a Formation node for Chen Changsheng, leaving a Formation core along the coast.

Yun Hengzi was full of endless admiration for Chen Changsheng's actions.

At the same time, he was curious about what method this fellow Daoist would use to lay down the Heaven and Earth Grand Formation.

Though he, Yun Hengzi, had been cultivating for many years, he was helpless against this locust plague. He had once focused entirely on cultivating the Dao of Formations for a time in his early years, but to lay down a Formation that spanned this entire Mortal World? Yun Hengzi simply did not have the ability.

Walking beside Chen Changsheng, Zhao Yuqing said, "That old man said you have an inner demon."

"Every cultivator will experience an inner demon," Chen Changsheng said. "Aren't you the same?"

"I am..."

Zhao Yuqing nodded, but added, "I'm just thinking about that old man's words. Even though they sounded ambiguous, like a bunch of nonsense, they did serve as a wake-up call for me. An inner demon is an inner demon, after all..."

Chen Changsheng patted his shoulder and said, "In This Chen's opinion, you should go and slay that inner demon right now. Otherwise, a period of endless troubles lies ahead."

Zhao Yuqing smiled helplessly. "How could it be that easy?"

"Do you think it's that easy to slay?"

Zhao Yuqing looked at Chen Changsheng and said, "That is another me."

"He looks exactly like me, and he even took half of my Dao Cultivation. Facing him is no different from looking in a mirror."

Taking a deep breath, Zhao Yuqing said, "If my heart is unsteady, the Sword in my hand will never be able to slay him."

Chen Changsheng naturally understood this reasoning, yet amid his thoughts, he couldn't help but worry for himself.

Zhao Yuqing's inner demon was extraordinary. It had already become something like an External Avatar. With things having reached such a state, slaying the inner demon would be even more difficult. If this scenario fell upon Chen Changsheng, it would only be far more troublesome.

The best method was still to strangle it within his thoughts.

Chen Changsheng felt that he perhaps needed to make preparations early on.

In truth, he was exceedingly clear on the matter: he had harbored this thing known as an inner demon for a long time.

Was Qingshan City in his dream back then not his inner demon?

What left Chen Changsheng somewhat bewildered, however, was that he never had that dream again afterward.

He did not know where it had gone.

Back then, he had sunk into the dream. If the Demon Sovereign had not barged in and pulled him out, he might still be living a carefree and comfortable life inside that dream right now.

But having said that.

Even now, Chen Changsheng still occasionally thought of that dream. He didn't seem to hold much disgust for a dream like that; he even felt a degree of acceptance toward it.

The inner demon had always been there.

It was merely hiding.
