Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1359: Linjian Mountain

The rise and fall of the world unfolded before his eyes.

Many things could be understood at a single glance, and Chen Changsheng paid them little mind. Or perhaps, this was simply what he considered the Mortal World's only path forward. As for the outcome, who could say for sure?

But Chen Changsheng felt that this Tribulation plaguing the Mortal World might soon pass. By the time he returned, it would likely be an entirely different scene. He found himself looking forward to it.

...

Over the few years Chen Changsheng spent traveling the Cultivation World, many changes had occurred within it.

A certain cultivator had been traveling the Cultivation World, teaching farming methods and earning the deep adoration of the common people. Word had it that this cultivator hailed from Rosy Cloud Mountain, having descended on her master's orders to bring blessings to the world.

Even ten thousand li away, Chen Changsheng had heard of her deeds.

This cultivator was named Chen Lingyun, a disciple of True Man Luoxia.

Chen Changsheng could not help but recall that bold, unrestrained woman. In the blink of an eye, she had become a Daoist cultivator known to all.

"What do you mean, forging her own path?"

"Mortal willpower and merit—you don't even know about that? If such actions yielded no benefits, who would waste their effort?"

"I don't quite understand. Explain it to me in detail. I know about merit, but what's this about mortal willpower?"

This mortal willpower was actually quite similar to the power of incense.

Born from sincere devotion, drawing upon it could produce miraculous effects.

After listening to this explanation, the crowd finally understood.

"Marvelous, truly marvelous..."

Chen Changsheng was among the listeners, but he did not stay long before leaving the area. He still had many places to go.

When Chen Changsheng unfurled his Geographical Map, many blank spots remained upon it, waiting for him to slowly fill them in.

The journey was long, but there would eventually come a day when they were all filled.

...

Time passed in a flash, and sixty years slipped by.

Chen Changsheng did not wake up very often, nor did he spend much time in this world.

He always had to expend a great deal of time traveling, but he found joy in it and felt content.

Over the years, he had traveled far and wide, covering the lands from north to south.

Many nameless places were given names. What was this mountain called? What was this land? Mountains, rivers, and lakes—he wandered through corners of the world no one had ever known.

Naturally, he gained quite a bit along this journey.

Walking the road, one could always encounter interesting things. Having traveled so far, there were always opportunities to stumble upon serendipitous encounters.

Take, for instance, a Cave Abode that Chen Changsheng once visited.

Inside, he found a cultivator's remains. Among the deceased's belongings, he obtained a top-tier cultivation technique. In return, Chen Changsheng buried the remains in the mountains.

This was just a common occurrence.

Over the years, Chen Changsheng had come across quite a few sets of remains.

After all, he rarely had a fixed place to stay. Whenever he came across a mountain cave or a hidden alcove, he would venture inside to take a look.

In this sixty-year period alone, he had buried four corpses. He had no idea who any of them were, but he managed to glean some benefits from each. Some items were useful, others not, but Chen Changsheng kept them all, figuring they might come in handy one day.

Chen Changsheng walked down the mountain slope.

Looking ahead, he saw an Immortal Mountain standing in the distance, wreathed in curling spiritual mist.

Chen Changsheng paused, finding it somewhat familiar.

He opened his Geographical Map for a glance, only then realizing that he had unwittingly arrived at the foot of Sword Mountain.

He thought back, remembering that he seemed to have visited Sword Mountain once before. At the time, he had met two Sword Immortals. What were their names again...?

Chen Changsheng only remembered that one was named Dongqing. Dongqing had a disciple who was the reincarnation of an old acquaintance of his. With so many years gone by, he wondered how that person was doing now.

At that thought, Chen Changsheng walked toward the gates of Sword Mountain.

He had yet to even begin his climb.

When suddenly, a voice rang out.

"Oh, I was wondering why the magpies were chattering all morning. Turns out it's because you've arrived."

Hearing the familiar voice, Chen Changsheng paused for a moment.

He looked up and saw a scruffy old man standing on the stone steps leading up the mountain, beaming at him.

Chen Changsheng snapped out of his daze.

The Old Sword Cultivator met his gaze, and both men burst into laughter.

Having not seen each other for many years, they naturally missed one another.

...

The Old Sword Cultivator led Chen Changsheng up the mountain.

Along the way, the Old Sword Cultivator seemed to have an endless stream of things to say. He was just that kind of person—once his mouth started going, it wouldn't stop.

Chen Changsheng was happy to listen. As he heard the Old Sword Cultivator recount his experiences over the years, he almost felt as though he had walked right alongside him through it all.

The Old Sword Cultivator said, "As for you, I haven't heard a peep about you in all these years. I figured you had died in a ditch somewhere."

Chen Changsheng replied, "You are much older than This Chen. If someone has to die, you will go before This Chen."

"Hahaha, yes, yes, talk big while you can. I hope you're still this arrogant when I'm pouring wine down your throat later."

"Do you think This Chen fears you?"

The Old Sword Cultivator chuckled, then suddenly changed the subject. "But speaking of which, I actually poached one of your subordinates and dragged him up here to Sword Mountain. He's a disciple of my Sword Mountain now, so don't get angry when you see him."

"One of This Chen's subordinates?" Chen Changsheng paused, confused. "Who do I have working under me?"

"You'll see when we get there."

It was only when the Old Sword Cultivator brought him deeper into Sword Mountain and he saw the person in question that Chen Changsheng finally understood.

It was the divine soldier he had originally sent to the Mortal World, the one that had unexpectedly gained sentience.

When Yu Hongdou looked at Chen Changsheng, an inexplicable sense of familiarity washed over him.

It was as if he had known the man before him for a very long time.

Yet when Yu Hongdou tried to recall anything, he could not grasp a single memory—though the feeling of familiarity did not fade in the slightest.

Chen Changsheng looked at Yu Hongdou, but his gaze fell upon the Sword in his hand.

A Sword that looked as though it were carved from green jade.

Yu Hongdou walked up to the Old Sword Cultivator and asked, "Old man, who is this...?"

The Old Sword Cultivator replied, "Your father."

Yu Hongdou rolled his eyes at him. "Can you answer seriously for once?"

The Old Sword Cultivator let out a loud laugh. "Actually, it's not far from the truth. This man is surnamed Chen. If it weren't for him, you wouldn't even exist."

Realization immediately dawned on Yu Hongdou.

"You're Mister Chen?"

"You're really Mister Chen?!"

Yu Hongdou's gaze locked onto Chen Changsheng. He constantly sized the man up, as if trying to find something extraordinary about him.

He stared for quite a while, yet the man before him felt incredibly ordinary—as utterly mundane as one could get.

This was vastly different from what Yu Hongdou had imagined. The Mister Chen in his mind didn't look like this at all.

At this moment, Chen Changsheng spoke up to ask, "Where did you get that Sword in your hand?"

Yu Hongdou snapped back to reality and looked down at the Sword in his hand.

He opened his mouth and explained the Sword's origins.

Upon hearing this, Chen Changsheng zoned out for a moment.

"Mister Chen?"

Yu Hongdou called out several times, but the man didn't react at all.
