Chen Changsheng looked at the demonic cultivators, who seemed as if they had gone mad. They reminded him of people from his past life who had lost their way in the pursuit of wealth. Toward this Demon Mountain, shrouded in demonic energy, they displayed a peculiar, intense reverence.
In mere moments, a group of demonic cultivators surrounded him.
Their faces were all different, but the demonic energy radiating from their bodies shared the exact same origin.
"Bow to the Holy Land!"
The demonic cultivators shouted, pressing step by step toward Chen Changsheng.
"My heart holds a holy land, so I need not bow," Chen Changsheng said. "Reverence lies within. Even without bowing, a holy land will respond. But if the heart is insincere, bowing a thousand or ten thousand times is useless."
But Chen Changsheng had overlooked one thing.
For a group like this, reasoning was utterly useless. Their reverence for Demon Mountain had reached a fanatical degree; they simply could not listen to reason.
"Those who disrespect the Holy Land shall suffer the punishment of having their skin flayed and bones scraped!"
"Since reason fails..."
Chen Changsheng raised his hand, preparing to summon the Listening Rain Sword.
The demonic cultivators were already striding forward, ready to strike.
Right at this critical juncture, a voice suddenly echoed from the distant Demon Mountain.
"This is an honored guest! Fall back at once!"
The demonic cultivators froze at those words. In an instant, they dropped to their knees to face Demon Mountain.
"Exalted Lord!"
Watching this sudden shift, Chen Changsheng quietly put away his sword.
All around him, countless demonic cultivators knelt and kowtowed, the reverence in their eyes beyond words.
...
When Chen Changsheng arrived before Demon Mountain, he saw a person who had already been waiting there for quite some time.
The demonic energy constantly surging from the man's body made Chen Changsheng feel a slight pressure, but his face was not unfamiliar.
"It has been a long time, Mister Chen."
Wang He cupped his hands and smiled. "Wang He greets Mister Chen."
Led by Wang He, Chen Changsheng walked into the expanse of Demon Mountain.
This place was profoundly mysterious. With the Demon Sword as a foundation, it carved out its own domain, concealing itself from the heavens while drawing upon an endless supply of demonic energy.
After so many years, the changes in Wang He were earth-shattering.
Walking through Demon Mountain, it seemed no different from the Immortal Sects of the mortal world. There were grand halls, Stone Tablets, demonic cultivators, and disciples. Elders oversaw the grounds, and even a Law Enforcement Hall stood tall.
Its scale was exceptionally massive.
Wang He said, "Look at these people. At first, they never thought they would enter the demonic path, nor were they as devout as they are today. They were all unremarkable figures in this world—either suffering cold stares or bearing deep grudges. Step by step, under the weight of this world, they were forced down this path."
"The number of tragic people in this world is countless. Only the demonic path gave them a chance, allowing them to stand back up and granting them the power to rebel against this world."
"The Immortal Sects constantly speak of their own benevolence, yet behind closed doors, they commit monstrous deeds. The demonic path is spat upon by everyone, but from start to finish, who have we truly offended? Simply because of the word 'demon,' we have become the side of evil."
Chen Changsheng listened to these words but did not reply.
He already gripped the Listening Rain Sword at his waist, prepared in case of a sudden attack.
Wang He turned his head and said, "Back then, Mister helped me with the Demon Pill. I am endlessly grateful, and I have not let down Mister's expectations. Today, the Demon Gate has risen. We now hold the power to overturn the clouds and rain. All debts, old and new, shall be settled with this so-called Righteous Path."
"I have searched for Mister for a long time. I hope Mister will remain in my Demon Gate and lend us a helping hand. Let us command the sun and moon, change the heavens, and forge a new world for the demonic path."
Chen Changsheng felt nothing toward Wang He's words.
He also understood Wang He's intentions.
But as for Wang He's gratitude, Chen Changsheng knew he was thanking the wrong person.
That Demon Pill from years ago was likely the doing of the Demon Sovereign.
Yet if a fight broke out here, Chen Changsheng did not have much confidence that he could retreat unscathed.
On the path of Cultivation, one either advances or falls behind. Upon reaching the peak, all below can be treated as straw dogs. Although he, Chen Changsheng, possessed countless abilities, he was not necessarily capable of fighting an entire Demon Gate single-handedly.
Chen Changsheng said, "This Chen has no interest in conflict."
Hearing this, Wang He was bewildered. He asked, "Is Mister truly uninterested?"
"Uninterested."
"Then why did Mister insist on feeding that Demon Pill to me back then?"
Chen Changsheng thought for a moment before saying, "Perhaps it is just as you said; the demonic path is not entirely wrong. When the tides of the world rise, who wouldn't want to try their luck?"
Wang He fell into deep thought upon hearing this.
"So, what I have achieved is merely out of your great mercy, Mister?"
Chen Changsheng shook his head and said, "That is not what I meant either."
He looked toward the towering Demon Mountain and said, "In this world, there is righteousness, and there should also be wickedness. But how are righteousness and wickedness defined? Is the righteous always righteous? Is the wicked always wicked?"
"When cultivators who wield immense power lack moral character yet sit securely on the Righteous Path, while insignificant figures merely seeking a chance to turn their lives around—or those driven into the demonic path by hatred—perform deeds for the greater good... does that truly make them demons?"
Chen Changsheng shook his head, saying, "Between heaven and earth, the true meaning of righteousness and wickedness has long been forgotten. They only oppose each other based on factions. We should let right be right, and draw a clear line between the two."
Wang He was deeply moved by these words.
"Wang He understands Mister's intent."
He took a deep breath and said, "I rose from nothing. From that dharma-ending land of the Mortal World, I stepped into the Immortal Realm, suffering countless hardships and endless displacement. Simply because the demonic path chose me, I became evil. The cultivators of the Immortal Realm hear my name and treat me as a great menace. Yet, was I ever anything more than a person who just wanted to cultivate in peace?"
Chen Changsheng sat down and said, "There are differences in demonic energy."
He looked at Wang He and said, "But it cannot be denied that the disciples of your demonic path have indeed committed many brutal, inhuman acts. You are different from those who bow to the holy mountain. You can keep your mind from being influenced by demonic energy, but they cannot..."
"There are so many who commit evil, and that is what earns your Demon Gate its infamy."
But Wang He shook his head. "Even if we did good deeds and accumulated virtue, the so-called Righteous Path would still view us as a thorn in their side."
Chen Changsheng replied, "You could try to make some changes."
Wang He paused upon hearing this, then cupped his hands. "Please guide me, Mister."
"The first lies in the Cultivation methods."
Chen Changsheng said, "The Cultivation methods of demonic cultivators primarily rely on bloodlust and sinister energy. When cultivated to profound levels, entering fire and falling into demons becomes extremely common. This is the root of the chaos among demonic cultivators."
"Since that is the case, why is it that for so long, no one has had the mind to reforge the methods of the demonic path?"
"Mister means..."
Wang He abruptly snapped to attention, suddenly realizing that Mister's words were indeed reasonable.
"If these flaws can be resolved, perhaps the Demon Gate could reach a higher level. Over time, it might even change the world's perception."
Wang He fell into deep thought.
Seeing him like this, Chen Changsheng continued, "Let the good return to the good, and the evil to the evil. Righteousness and wickedness are just that, but the Righteous Path and the demonic path do not truly represent right and wrong. If the world lacks the ability to distinguish between them clearly, then show it to them."
