"Look at that beggar."
"Heh."
"Want to mess with him?"
The men at the table turned to look at the beggar napping against a rock.
Chen Changsheng was exhausted. He hadn't stopped moving, only allowing himself a brief moment to rest; in a little while, he would have to keep walking.
But the cultivators at the table had their interest piqued.
"Watch this."
One of the men raised his hand. A stone slowly floated up, then suddenly shot toward the beggar.
"Smack."
He opened his eyes and looked up.
Three cultivators were laughing uproariously.
Chen Changsheng lowered his head slightly at the sight and let out a soft sigh.
"I only wanted to rest for a bit..."
Chen Changsheng raised his hand slightly, and a sudden, fierce gust of wind swept past.
In an instant, it flipped their table over.
"Huh!?"
The three men jumped in surprise, hastily dodging out of the way.
"Bold beggar! To think you have such Dao Cultivation!"
Chen Changsheng picked up the fallen stone and casually tossed it back.
"Thud."
It happened in a flash. Before the man could even react, he collapsed to the ground.
A bloody mark sat dead center on his forehead as he fell straight backward.
The other two turned pale and cried out in shock, "Senior Brother!!"
"He's dead!!"
"Beggar! You deserve to die!!"
Chen Changsheng paid them no mind and threw two more stones in quick succession.
The other two hit the ground with heavy thuds.
People rushed out of the Wine Tavern in a panic.
Seeing the scene outside, they were terrified into silence and hurriedly backed inside.
Chen Changsheng ignored the three corpses on the ground.
He simply walked away.
He certainly cared. As far as Chen Changsheng was concerned, these people deserved death. Anyone who took pleasure in tormenting a weak beggar could hardly be a good person.
They only had their own rotten luck to blame.
He thought the matter would end there.
Unexpectedly, a group of people blocked his path not long after.
"He's the one who killed our three Senior Brothers!!"
There were five newcomers in total, all wearing similar attire and gripping Dharma Swords. Murderous intent immediately surged from them. Among the group was an elder who had come hunting him down.
Sometimes, Chen Changsheng found the Cultivation World truly tiresome. Beating the young only drew out the old, and none of them ever seemed to learn a lesson.
Yet this group didn't even last ten moves against him before they were all left collapsed on the ground.
Chen Changsheng simply said, "Don't bother me again, or you can go to the grave with them."
The group lay in the dirt, all suffering from severe internal injuries.
Chen Changsheng didn't take their lives; he simply turned and left.
After that, he finally found some peace and quiet.
Perhaps they knew what was good for them and realized he was not to be trifled with, so they never came looking for trouble again.
That year, Chen Changsheng once again found nothing.
He returned to Reincarnation.
Feeling somewhat drained, he rested for a short while.
When he woke up, he was still within Reincarnation. After waiting for a long time, he emerged into the world once more.
...
Chen Changsheng walked on, not missing a single Immortal Mountain along his path.
He visited them one by one, inspecting each in turn.
But this time, things were slightly different.
On most of the Immortal Mountains, the numbers of disciples and cultivators had plummeted.
Chen Changsheng eventually asked about it.
"Fellow Daoist, you didn't know? The Xuanmen Grand Tournament is taking place right now. All the disciples have headed to Tianming Pool."
"The Xuanmen Grand Tournament?"
Chen Changsheng was somewhat surprised, but he listened as the man in front of him patiently explained.
Ever since the world's cultivators had united under the Mysterious Gate, qi destiny had unified as well. The number of disciples each faction could take in became fixed. The right to recruit new blood was determined by the grand tournament; if an Immortal Sect secured a high rank, they would be allowed to select the most talented candidates during the next worldwide recruitment.
"Doesn't that mean all the factions of the Mysterious Gate will be gathered in one place?" Chen Qi asked.
"Exactly!"
Chen Changsheng realized this would be a rare opportunity.
"Where is Tianming Pool?"
"Well, how should I describe it..."
Chen Changsheng paused for a moment before pulling his Geographical Map from his robes.
The man in front of him froze. His eyes widened as he stared at it, and he drew in a sharp breath.
"This is a Geographical Map!! This map!"
"Ah!!"
He looked at Chen Changsheng in disbelief, unable to help but wonder about this man's origins.
"Point out the location," Chen Changsheng said.
The man snapped back to his senses and quickly pointed out Tianming Pool on the map.
The next moment, an Immortal Sword rose into the air.
In an instant, Sword Qi swirled.
Chen Changsheng stepped into the air and landed on the Flying Sword.
A flash of sword light swept past, blinding to the eye.
The man standing on the Immortal Mountain felt his legs instantly go numb.
"A Sword... a Sword Immortal..."
He had thought this was just some nameless cultivator, but now he realized a true Sword Immortal had been standing right in front of him.
...
A streak of sword light shot up from the Immortal Mountain.
Stirring the clouds and winds, it turned into a dazzling streak as it tore toward the northern lands.
Wherever it passed, the sea of clouds was cleaved open, leaving a deep trench in the sky. Any cultivators who looked up and caught a glimpse of that breathtaking light found their hearts filled with deep admiration.
Tianming Pool was located beneath the withered mountains of the north.
The pool was profoundly mysterious. It had been created long ago by a mighty cultivator's water-element Divine Abilities, forming a vast body of water beneath these barren peaks. Its surface was as smooth as a mirror, possessing a powerful disorienting effect.
And today, cultivators of the Mysterious Gate from all over the world had gathered here.
They assembled together, flocking from the Four Seas and the eight desolate regions.
This grand tournament would determine the standing of the major Immortal Sects for the next ten years.
The crowd looked up, spotting a streak of sword light approaching from the distance.
"A Sword Immortal?"
"Does anyone recognize him?"
"I don't recognize that kind of Sword Qi."
"Hmm? Why isn't he coming closer? He's landing?"
Gazing from afar, Chen Changsheng saw the dense crowd and knew he was in the right place.
He touched down on the ground, having no intention of rushing in blindly.
After a moment of thought, he put away his Sword, straightened his clothes, and walked toward Tianming Pool.
The major Immortal Sects had each claimed their own sections, almost completely surrounding the vast Tianming Pool in an airtight ring.
Chen Changsheng walked up near the water's edge, his gaze constantly sweeping over the gathered cultivators.
At that moment, several cultivators were engaged in a fierce magical duel at the center of Tianming Pool, locked in a bitter struggle.
Chen Changsheng's gaze swept over them.
Suddenly, the water rippled, and a reflection cast upon the surface of the pool caught his eye.
He froze, his gaze following the reflection upward.
He saw a woman in green with a wounded shoulder. She was gripping a verdant longsword, her brows locked in a tight frown.
Right in front of her, the opposing cultivator was already slashing down with his blade.
At that very moment.
Chen Changsheng stood dumbfounded on the shore.
He stared at her figure, lost in a daze for a long time.
He Qing grit her teeth, abruptly raising her blade to strike back.
But the momentum of her sword was still just a bit too weak.
He Qing froze. Knowing she couldn't dodge the blow, she prepared to give up and let this be the end.
But in a fraction of a second, a figure flashed past her eyes.
An Immortal Sword shot through the air, violently knocking the incoming Flying Sword away.
