Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 1418: It's All the Same, It's All the Same

It wasn't just because of Chen Changsheng's aura.

There was also a strange sense of familiarity!

This puzzled Yu Hongjin. She leaned in close to He Qing, peering at her intently.

He Qing put out a hand to block her. "Little girl, this isn't very polite..."

Yu Hongjin paused, but replied, "I might be older than your mother."

He Qing paused. She had thought the little girl was just acting up, but upon closer inspection, she realized she wasn't actually human.

Xuanji hurried over as well and took a careful look.

She rubbed her chin. "Why do you look a bit like Sister Aqing?"

He Qing stared blankly at her. "Aqing?"

When He Qing had asked Chen Changsheng for that person's name, he had answered with Aqing.

"Who are you?"

Xuanji and Yu Hongjin exchanged a glance. After a quick discussion, they led He Qing away from the Temple Fair.

Back at the tavern, He Qing was still a little bewildered.

The pair, one tall and one small, scrutinized her.

"Do you know Senior Chen?" He Qing asked.

"This Senior Chen you're talking about—is it Chen Changsheng?" Yu Hongjin asked.

"Yes!"

"Of course we know him."

Yu Hongjin said, "If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have noticed you. But we're not curious because of Chen Changsheng. We're curious about you."

"Me?"

"Yes!"

Yu Hongjin said, "You look a lot like a friend I used to know."

Xuanji leaned in closer. "Do you think she could be Sister Aqing's daughter?"

"Then who is her father?"

"Who else could it be!"

Yu Hongjin suddenly realized what she meant and asked, "What is your name again?"

"He Qing."

"Your surname is He?"

Now it was Yu Hongjin and Xuanji's turn to be confused.

Xuanji tugged at her. "Oh no, could Granduncle Chen have abandoned her?"

"What nonsense are you spouting?" Yu Hongjin said. "That's impossible."

He Qing listened to their muttering and said, "Could you at least try to be discreet? It's not like I can't hear you."

Xuanji turned back around, offering a smile to cover her embarrassment.

"My mother's name is He Yulu," He Qing said. "It's not what you think. I took my mother's surname, and I'm just a junior. My relationship with Senior Chen is more like a friendship."

"Ah, I see..."

After a bit more explanation, Yu Hongjin and Xuanji finally understood.

He Qing continued, "As for the Aqing you mentioned, perhaps..."

"Perhaps she is my past life."

Hearing this, the other two lost their composure.

"What?!"

"What is going on?!"

"You've died once?"

"What past life?"

Yu Hongjin and Xuanji pressed in close, questioning her closely.

He Qing pursed her lips. "I don't know. Senior Chen was the one who told me..."

Thinking of this, He Qing recounted some things from the past.

Xuanji and Yu Hongjin fell into silence after listening.

Seeing them stay quiet, He Qing asked, "By the way, what kind of person was Aqing? And what kind of relationship did she have with me, and with Senior Chen?"

Yu Hongjin and Xuanji exchanged a glance. After a moment of thought, they shared some tales from the past.

This was the first time He Qing had heard an outsider speak Aqing's name.

Though she always said her past life had nothing to do with her present, she still couldn't hide her curiosity.

Yu Hongjin told her everything, starting from when they first met, pouring out everything she knew. Xuanji then added details about the years after Aqing returned to the Peach Orchard.

These events gradually smoothed out and wove together into a single timeline.

He Qing asked, "So you're saying Aqing actually liked Senior Chen?"

Xuanji thought for a moment. "I don't know about that..."

"What do you mean you don't know?" Yu Hongjin said. "Of course she liked him, otherwise why would she wait for him?"

Xuanji rubbed her head and said, "It just never felt quite like that to me. It didn't seem like that kind of romance. It was weird, almost like the two of them were just making do with each other."

Yu Hongjin blinked. She didn't understand it anyway.

He Qing pursed her lips. She couldn't quite grasp it either, as she couldn't put herself in those shoes.

Yu Hongjin asked, "Then how did you meet Chen Changsheng in this lifetime?"

He Qing collected her thoughts and slowly recounted her story.

She laid out the entire sequence of events.

Yu Hongjin nodded after listening. "So what you're saying is, Chen Changsheng is more like a friend to you now."

"Something like that."

"I see..."

Yu Hongjin murmured.

Xuanji spoke up instead, "I'm honestly curious about this whole reincarnation thing."

Yu Hongjin shot her a look. "Just die once, and won't you find out?"

"Auntie Hongjin, you're spouting nonsense again."

"No, I'm not."

He Qing found the dynamic incredibly bizarre. This young woman was calling a little girl "Auntie," which inexplicably felt a bit wrong.

"Why don't you stay on Green Mountain for a couple more days?" Xuanji suggested.

He Qing thought for a moment and said, "All right. Honestly, I'd also like to hear more about Senior Chen from you two."

"Granduncle..."

Xuanji pursed her lips and said, "You'll have to ask Auntie Hongjin about that. I really don't know much."

"I don't know much either," Yu Hongjin said.

Regardless, He Qing ended up staying in a haze of confusion.

Whether for the Temple Fair or the mysteries of her past life, she had reasons to stay here.

But the most important reason, perhaps, was the sight of this Mortal World.

She was very curious about what this place was like.

Xuanji and Yu Hongjin were incredibly welcoming. In just a few days, the three of them grew close.

However, neither of the two were very reliable.

They dragged He Qing along to drink, gamble, and roam the Temple Fair. Occasionally, they would even sneak into people's courtyards to steal fruit to eat, getting into as much mischief as possible.

He Qing felt a bit out of her element, but Xuanji consoled her, "You'll get used to it, you'll get used to it."

"What happens if we lose all our money gambling?"

"That's a long way off," Xuanji said. "I still have tens of thousands of taels. That should be enough to lose for a few years."

Yu Hongjin chimed in, "She's just rich. Her ancestor was a commandery princess."

He Qing, however, only half-understood all of this.

Yu Hongjin said, "Come on, let's go, no more gambling. Let's head back and drink. A jar of wine I brewed a while back is finally ready."

Drinking, as it turned out, was right up He Qing's alley.

She liked to drink a little wine too.

She just wasn't sure if it would be as good as Senior Chen's wine.

But upon tasting it, He Qing was utterly blown away.

Yu Hongjin beamed. "How is it? Not bad, right?"

He Qing nodded repeatedly. She had never tasted a wine like this before.

Xuanji munched on candied hawthorn skewers with her wine and said, "Auntie Hongjin's brewing skills are unmatched under the heavens. You're in for a real treat, Sister Aqing."

"It's He Qing," He Qing corrected with a helpless smile.

Xuanji waved her hand dismissively. "Ah, it's all the same, it's all the same."

He Qing didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She felt that the two girls in front of her, one tall and one small, were simply too outrageous.

Yet, looking back on it...

It was actually quite fun.
