Chen Changsheng could not agree with Zhao Yuqing's methods.
"And if the worst comes to pass?" he asked.
Zhao Yuqing shook his head. "How will we know unless we try?"
"Who knows the true nature of the one who shed this blood? Or what kind of abilities they possess?"
Chen Qi felt a momentary wave of helplessness. He let out a sigh and asked, "Zhao Yuqing, what exactly are you trying to do?"
"Just for fun."
That was Zhao Yuqing's only reply.
Chen Changsheng said no more, merely shaking his head. "Do as you please."
He poured a cup of wine and tipped his head back to down it.
"Is that so?"
Zhao Yuqing tapped lightly on the table. "We just need to be careful, that's all."
Chen Changsheng gave a slight nod.
The two exchanged a few more casual words before hurriedly parting ways.
That year, He Qing still did not return; she remained in the Mortal World.
However, Zheng Yue returned.
He brought good news.
"Senior Chen, I did it!"
Zheng Yue announced with excitement, "I managed to convince the Heavenly Dao's people! They agreed to open a market on an island near the Mortal World. I succeeded!"
Chen Changsheng cupped his hands. "Congratulations."
From then on, a connection was established between the Mortal World and the Cultivation World. Led by Cloud Mist Immortal Mountain, the affairs of the Mortal World gradually integrated with the Cultivation World.
Zheng Yue became a manager along this trade route. After stepping into the Cultivation World, he embarked upon a bright, open path.
...
Time rolled on.
Another ten years passed in the blink of an eye.
The Wine Tavern at the foot of Qingyu Mountain opened once every three years, consistently attracting a good number of patrons. Its wine was not exceptional enough to be renowned across the world, but it held quite a reputation in this small region.
Still, it was enough to keep Chen Changsheng busy.
Patrons would sit in the Wine Tavern, chatting and drinking. Sometimes they brought their own snacks to pair with the wine, lingering for an entire afternoon.
His days alternated between leisure and bustling activity.
Zhao Yuqing, however, rarely visited anymore. At least, Chen Changsheng had not seen him in recent years.
He did not know where the man had wandered off to.
Most likely, he was endlessly searching for a way to deal with that drop of blood.
Until late Huaixu of that year.
Just as the tavern was about to close for the night, Zhao Yuqing arrived.
He did not come alone. A child stood by his side.
The child was shy, hiding behind Zhao Yuqing, yet curiosity won out; he peeked at Chen Changsheng from time to time.
The moment Chen Changsheng saw the boy, he understood.
Zhao Yuqing had actually succeeded.
"What is his name?" Chen Changsheng asked.
"He has a surname all to himself," Zhao Yuqing replied. "Jiu Fengchun. I chose it. What do you think?"
Chen Changsheng looked doubtful. "You managed to come up with a name like that?"
"You're underestimating me a bit," Zhao Yuqing chuckled helplessly.
Jiu Fengchun sat off to the side, looking exceptionally well-behaved. "Mister, who is he...?" he asked.
Zhao Yuqing said, "He is also a mister. You must call him Mister Chen."
Jiu Fengchun looked at Chen Changsheng. "Greetings, Mister Chen."
Chen Changsheng smiled. "Good boy."
With that, he shifted his gaze back to Zhao Yuqing. "So, what did you come to me for this time?"
Zhao Yuqing paused for a moment. "Do you remember what I told you about erasing the divine sense?"
Chen Changsheng instantly understood.
Zhao Yuqing had spoken of it lightly back then, but to seek him out now meant something had gone wrong.
Zhao Yuqing continued, "The divine sense is simply too massive. If I erase it directly, I'm afraid this child won't survive. I need to borrow a sliver of your divine sense to temporarily suppress it. Once the boy develops his own consciousness, I can completely extinguish it. I know you are capable of splitting your divine sense."
"You really insist on dragging this Chen onto your boat," Chen Changsheng said.
Zhao Yuqing spread his hands. "You're the only one who can help."
Chen Changsheng let out a helpless sigh, but he ultimately agreed.
He had no choice. He also didn't want the remnant divine sense within the boy to cause unforeseeable consequences.
"I cannot stay forever."
Chen Changsheng added, "You still need to take him to the Underworld. Only there can I escape the flow of time."
"That was my thought as well," Zhao Yuqing said.
"It has been a long time since I visited the Underworld anyway."
"Shall we go together?"
"Let's go."
Chen Changsheng and Zhao Yuqing took the child down into the Underworld.
When Manyue saw the two of them again, she was momentarily surprised before returning to her usual calm.
"Hiding from disaster at my place again?" she asked.
Zhao Yuqing laughed. "Do us a favor."
Manyue waved a hand dismissively, offering no objections.
And so, the group settled down in the Underworld.
Jiu Fengchun inspected his surroundings with curiosity. It was devoid of daylight and surrounded by the souls of the dead, which left him feeling a bit frightened.
From then on, Chen Changsheng used his divine sense to suppress the remnant divine sense left in Jiu Fengchun from birth. Meanwhile, Zhao Yuqing constantly taught the boy—ranging from how to conduct himself as a person, to Arts and Techniques, Divine Abilities, and swordplay.
It could be said he imparted everything he knew, holding absolutely nothing back.
Chen Changsheng observed, "You were not this diligent when you taught He Qing."
Zhao Yuqing replied, "That was different. Teaching that girl was just a passing whim. But with Fengchun, I truly want to take him as my disciple. He's like me. In the future, he might just become a peerless demon lord."
Chen Changsheng gave a bitter smile. "Just what kind of intentions are you harboring?"
"What is there to fear?"
Zhao Yuqing said, looking highly upon Jiu Fengchun.
"This child is a rare prodigy with the sword! Incredibly hard to come by!"
"How does he compare to you?"
"I'm afraid he might be even better!"
Chen Changsheng gave a slight nod and said no more.
In the blink of an eye, several more years passed.
Jiu Fengchun grew up bit by bit. He meditated and practiced Cultivation every day, or sparred with the sword. Zhao Yuqing often acted as his opponent, and in terms of sword moves, Jiu Fengchun never once managed to win.
"Mister, how could I ever beat you?"
Jiu Fengchun sounded discouraged as he sat on the ground to catch his breath.
Zhao Yuqing said, "You should make me your goal. A disciple is supposed to surpass their master; otherwise, what kind of disciple are they?"
Jiu Fengchun often heard these words, but he felt it would be impossibly difficult.
"That isn't what Mister Chen says."
Jiu Fengchun argued, "Mister Chen says I just need to do my best and leave no regrets."
"Your Mister Chen is teaching you how to conduct yourself in the world, while I am teaching you how to survive!"
Zhao Yuqing sheathed his sword. "Otherwise, once you leave this place, you'll likely lose your life in no time."
Jiu Fengchun pursed his lips and finally scrambled to his feet.
Gripping his small Wooden Sword, he resumed his sparring with Zhao Yuqing.
He always possessed a resolute and unyielding temperament. He might complain on occasion, but he would always get back up, refusing to accept defeat.
Chen Changsheng watched all of this unfold, silently harboring some concern.
Ultimately, he was not entirely at ease about this child.
When the time came, he would have to leave behind some countermeasures.
Zhao Yuqing was treating the boy as his true disciple! That was not good at all!
