On the matter of Jiu Fengchun, Chen Changsheng and Zhao Yuqing found themselves on opposite sides.

He didn't know why, but he had suddenly grown rather extreme.

In the past, he might have shared Zhao Yuqing's perspective.

Now, however, he simply wanted some stability.

Perhaps that was why.

He left the Underworld and returned to the Wine Tavern.

Years had passed, but the Wine Tavern remained in good order. Zheng Yue had been managing it all this time. Before leaving, Chen Changsheng had stored enough wine in the tavern, entrusting Zheng Yue to bring it to the Mortal World.

Because of this, Zheng Yue had visited often over the years.

Pushing the door open, he found the tavern had been nearly cleared of its wine.

This year, He Qing still had not returned; she remained in the Mortal World.

...

To He Qing, the Mortal World always held so many unforgettable things.

She had suddenly discovered something far more interesting than cultivation.

That was simply living.

Mortals possessed frail bodies, but in spirit, they knew how to enjoy life far, far more than any cultivator.

The Temple Fair, the flower lanterns of the Shangyuan Festival, the autumn dragon boats—He Qing adored it all.

She often returned to Qingshan City to catch up with Yu Hongjin, though mostly, she just craved her wine.

Whenever Senior Chen had someone bring wine down from the Cultivation World, she would share it with Yu Hongjin.

After tasting that Peach Blossom Brew, Yu Hongjin smacked her lips and said, "This wine..."

"It's incredibly familiar."

From the very first taste, Yu Hongjin felt a strong sense of familiarity.

As if she had tasted it somewhere before.

She pondered for a long time before her gaze finally settled on He Qing.

"Isn't this the wine you brewed yourself?"

He Qing was taken aback. "Senior Chen brewed this. How could I have made it?"

"It is!"

Yu Hongjin smacked her lips again. "In your past life, when you tended the Peach Orchard, you loved using peaches and peach blossoms to brew wine. I drank it once back then, and it tasted exactly like this!"

Hearing this, He Qing stared blankly, unsure of how to respond.

Yu Hongjin shook her head helplessly. "Mister Chen really hasn't told you a single thing."

"He..."

He Qing pursed her lips and shook her head. "Perhaps it's better that he didn't."

Yu Hongjin paused. After a moment's thought, she had to admit that He Qing made a degree of sense.

Indeed.

Given how Chen Changsheng lived, keeping her in the dark was probably for the best.

But the thought brought Sister Yun to Yu Hongjin's mind, and a pang of sadness gripped her.

"Haa..."

Yu Hongjin let out a sigh, took another sip of wine, and said no more.

"Speaking of which," He Qing said, "when is Xuanji coming back?"

"Who knows?"

Yu Hongjin replied, "I have no idea where that girl has been running off to play all these years. She doesn't visit nearly as often anymore."

"I see."

"Hard to say. She does love the Temple Fair, though. Maybe she'll come back for it this year."

He Qing nodded, then thought of something else.

"You know..."

"I've been in the Mortal World for almost..."

Yu Hongjin supplied, "Eighteen years."

"How do you remember it better than I do?"

"I might forget other things, but I remember exactly how much of my wine you've drunk."

He Qing shook her head, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

Yu Hongjin asked, "What's wrong? Thinking of going back?"

"A little."

He Qing said, "I suddenly realized this wine has lost its flavor. It's probably because he isn't here."

"I'm different."

Yu Hongjin said, "I just drink purely for the love of it."

He Qing sighed. "I'll stay and relax for a while longer, then I'll head back. My mother is probably missing me."

"Mhm. And when you come back, bring me some more good wine from the Cultivation World. Honestly, in all these years, I've never even been there to visit."

"Why not go?"

"I don't have what it takes."

Yu Hongjin shook her head. "The Cultivation World isn't like the Mortal World. There's conflict everywhere. With my meager skills, I'd probably get knocked down before I could even find my footing."

"I'm perfectly suited to being a king right here."

He Qing giggled. "Quite a few cultivators have emerged in the Mortal World these past couple of years. You might not even get to be a king for long."

"True, but who'd dare mess with me? At worst, we just die together."

Yu Hongjin said, "I do have a few tricks up my sleeve."

"Can I see?"

"No can do. I can't just reveal them on a whim."

Yu Hongjin waved her hand dismissively. "Enough about that. Come, try my new brew. The taste is completely different."

Back in Qingshan City, He Qing spent all her time hanging around with Yu Hongjin. Their fun was endless: eating a bowl of noodles in the morning, listening to stories at the tea house at noon, picking and eating peaches in the afternoon, and chatting over wine at night. Occasionally, they would stroll through the streets. It was an incredibly carefree life.

This was far more interesting than the Cultivation World.

One day, He Qing went to the Peach Orchard, though this time she wasn't with Yu Hongjin.

She simply stared blankly at the orchard, looking at the peaches hanging from the trees across the mountain, her mind swirling with thoughts.

In truth, she had always thought about her past life. She claimed she didn't care—that she was just herself now—but she couldn't help being curious.

She plucked a fruit and took a bite. As the evening breeze brushed against her, her thoughts remained unsettled for a long time.

In a fleeting moment, the desire to go back sparked within her again.

She eventually stood up and left without a word of farewell.

She rushed to the coast at top speed, following the route back to the Cultivation World, and boarded the fastest Flying Vessel.

She simply wanted to go back and see him!

Perhaps it was a sudden whim, or perhaps there was some other reason, but the urge to return was undeniable.

Even as she sat on the Flying Vessel, He Qing remained somewhat in a daze.

Watching the Mortal World recede in the distance behind her, she pursed her lips, resolving to simply visit again next time.

Following the direction in her memories, she hurried all the way toward Qingyu Mountain.

From a distance, she spotted the Wine Tavern.

It was just dusk. Seeing the open doors of the tavern, she realized Senior Chen was inside.

Sitting and drinking inside the tavern, Chen Changsheng seemed to sense something.

He paused and stepped out of the tavern.

Looking off into the distance, he saw He Qing sprinting toward him.

Catching sight of him at the door, she waved and shouted, "Senior Chen!"

Chen Changsheng emerged from his daze, a smile pulling at his lips.

He Qing watched him draw closer and closer, but just as she was about to reach him...

The setting sun on the distant horizon sank completely beneath the mountains.

The very last ray of afterglow faded away.

Chen Changsheng seemed close enough to touch, yet in that exact moment, a gentle breeze swept by.

He Qing froze. Right before her eyes, Chen Changsheng's body dissolved into grains of sand, scattering with the wind.

It all happened right in front of her.

Moments later, the sand drifted off to who knew where.

He Qing stood at the tavern door, unable to recover her senses for a long, long time.

Inside the Wine Tavern.

It was filled with Peach Blossom Brew, but completely empty.
