As Jiu Fengchun grew older, he mastered more and more skills. His comprehension became increasingly uncanny—sometimes he grasped the true essence of a lesson before Zhao Yuqing even finished speaking.

Zhao Yuqing took all of this in, yet an inexplicable sense of worry gnawed at him.

Jiu Fengchun's appetite also continued to grow. At first, he merely ate sweet potatoes and the like. Then he moved on to Spirit Rice. And eventually...

Then came that night.

Unable to endure his hunger, Jiu Fengchun slipped out the door and ran into the mountains.

By the time he returned, he had scrubbed himself clean. Only a faint trace of blood lingered on his lips and teeth, which he eventually swallowed down.

Somehow, he gradually developed a taste for that sensation.

It did not take long for Zhao Yuqing to discover what was happening.

The presence of life in the forests was dwindling. In the past, the mountains had echoed with the roars and rustling of wild beasts, but lately, Zhao Yuqing rarely heard those sounds. There was hardly any movement at all.

He also noticed Jiu Fengchun sneaking out at night.

That night, Zhao Yuqing quietly followed him.

He watched his disciple traverse multiple peaks, crossing four entire mountains in succession.

Waiting at the foot of the mountain, Zhao Yuqing soon heard a series of agonizing shrieks ring out.

He hurried up the slope.

There, he found Jiu Fengchun devouring a Monkey Demon raw. Chunks of flesh disappeared into his mouth as fresh blood dripped down his chin. His hands, his clothes, his face—he was completely drenched in blood.

He ate with rabid greed. Hunger had long since made him forget everything else.

"Crunch... crunch..."

He didn't just eat the flesh; he chewed up the bones and swallowed them down.

When he finished, he licked his lips, yet the gnawing emptiness in his stomach remained.

"Haa..."

Jiu Fengchun stood up, ready to continue his hunt.

But the moment he turned around, he saw Zhao Yuqing standing right behind him.

Zhao Yuqing stared coldly at the scene.

Jiu Fengchun went rigid, then immediately collapsed to the ground.

"M-Master..."

He couldn't fathom why his master was here.

Terror gripped him. He scrambled backward, desperate to put some distance between himself and the man standing before him.

Zhao Yuqing asked, "Is it good?"

Jiu Fengchun didn't dare answer. He didn't even know how.

He feared the man before him, but he was even more terrified of anyone discovering this monstrous side of him.

Seeing his disciple completely drenched in blood and in such a state, Zhao Yuqing couldn't hold back a heavy sigh.

Jiu Fengchun pursed his trembling lips. "Master, I know I was wrong. I was just hungry... I was so hungry..."

By the end of his plea, his voice had completely lost its strength.

But he wasn't lying. He really was hungry—so hungry it was unbearable.

Zhao Yuqing stepped forward. "There are many things you can eat when you are hungry. Why must you consume living creatures?"

Jiu Fengchun shook his head, tears welling in his eyes. He was terrified.

"Nothing... nothing else makes me full..."

The look in his master's eyes filled Jiu Fengchun with absolute dread. He had never seen his master like this.

Killing intent!

It was killing intent!

Undeniably, in that moment, Zhao Yuqing truly wanted to kill him.

Even though he was a madman himself, witnessing this spectacle unfold before his eyes was still too much to accept.

Yesterday he was eating plants and trees. Today, he was devouring living creatures. If this continued...

Wouldn't he start eating people?

If it came to that, wouldn't he have raised a true demon?

Jiu Fengchun thought there was no way for him to escape a calamity today.

Yet, in the end, Zhao Yuqing didn't punish him at all.

Instead, he took him down the mountain and threw him into the river.

"Wash the blood off yourself!"

Jiu Fengchun could only obey. He knew his master's strength and didn't dare act out in the slightest.

A long while later, a soaking wet Jiu Fengchun stood before Zhao Yuqing.

He had scrubbed all the blood off his body, washing away the stench of gore along with it.

Jiu Fengchun panted heavily. Yet, his stomach still churned with an agonizing hunger.

"Master..."

Zhao Yuqing frowned slightly. "What are you crying for?!"

Tears streamed down Jiu Fengchun's face. "I'm hungry... I'm so hungry..."

Hearing this, Zhao Yuqing instinctively wanted to draw his sword.

Jiu Fengchun clutched his stomach and suddenly collapsed to the ground.

"Please, Master... I'm hungry. I want to eat..."

Jiu Fengchun writhed on the ground in starvation, clutching his head. The agony he felt in that moment was something only he could understand.

"Clang!!"

Zhao Yuqing drew his sword.

In the next moment, the blade was pressed against Jiu Fengchun's throat.

Jiu Fengchun stiffened, cold sweat pouring down his back. But in that instant, his hunger far exceeded his fear of death.

He sobbed, dry-heaving repeatedly, yet nothing came up but a puddle of stomach acid.

Zhao Yuqing said coldly, "If you cannot control yourself, then as your master, I will do it for you!"

"No, Master!!"

Jiu Fengchun shrieked, "Master, please! Just let me eat something! Just a little bit... just a little bit..."

His eyes were completely bloodshot; in that moment, he looked as if he were going mad.

He frantically tore at his own hair, desperately trying to force himself to stay lucid. But it was entirely futile. The hunger continually ravaged him, and both his body and his mind were becoming somewhat abnormal.

A muscle ticked in Zhao Yuqing's jaw. His killing intent was solid, yet he couldn't bring himself to swing the sword in his hand.

Three entire mountains!!

In just a few short months, the person before him had eaten all the living creatures across three mountains.

Devouring them raw, chewing them hard, leaving not even a splinter of bone behind.

Unable to bear the sight any longer, Zhao Yuqing raised his hand and pulled a fish from the river water.

"Slap."

Seeing this, Jiu Fengchun hastily scrambled over, snatched the fish, and started shoving it into his mouth.

River water and blood dripped down his chin together.

This time, Jiu Fengchun didn't even chew; he forcefully swallowed the entire fish down into his stomach.

Zhao Yuqing watched this scene unfold right before his eyes.

He had no idea what exactly he had raised.

For all these years, he had been teaching the person before him restraint. But looking at him now, he couldn't see a single trace of it.

There was only a greed for flesh and blood, and a terror of starvation.

Was this even a human anymore...

After swallowing the entire fish, Jiu Fengchun panted heavily, regaining a tiny bit of clarity.

But his freshly cleaned body was now stained red with fish blood.

Zhao Yuqing suddenly lunged forward and pinned him to the ground.

"Ah..."

An agonizing howl ripped from Jiu Fengchun's throat.

He was then hauled up by Zhao Yuqing, his line of sight abruptly changing.

A long while later...

He was thrown by Zhao Yuqing into a vast, boundless Snow Plain.

There was nothing here. Aside from the howling wind and snow, there wasn't even a single living plant.

Panic seized Jiu Fengchun's face. "Master!! Master!!"

But his calls were met with absolutely no response.
