Jiu Fengchun froze. As the fresh blood flooded his mouth, he couldn't help but savor it, licking his lips.

He looked down at the corpse before him, suddenly seized by the urge to devour it.

"Slap!"

Jiu Fengchun slapped his own face.

He shook his head, forcing himself to sober up.

"Jiu Fengchun, you've gone mad!"

"Have you forgotten Master's words?!"

Jiu Fengchun let out a few ragged breaths and hurried to the edge of the Spirit Spring, drinking the spiritual liquid to dull his gnawing hunger.

"Huff, huff..."

He rested for a moment, then stood to dispose of the body.

Casting a fire spell, he burned the corpse to ash, destroying all traces of the body before leaving the area.

Upon returning to Hidden Immortal Mountain, Jiu Fengchun steadied his nerves.

Zhang Zhengdao was currently meditating. Seeing him return, he couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.

"You killed someone..."

Jiu Fengchun hadn't expected to be seen through so easily.

Zhang Zhengdao stood up, no longer in the mood to meditate.

Jiu Fengchun opened his mouth. "I..."

Zhang Zhengdao said, "You might as well be honest with me, Fellow Daoist. I have cultivated for many years and studied the auras of men. The scent of blood clinging to you is glaringly obvious."

Jiu Fengchun lowered his head and explained everything that had just happened at the Spirit Spring.

Hearing this, Zhang Zhengdao let out a long sigh. "Fellow Daoist, why did you have to kill him?"

"Priest..."

Jiu Fengchun stood there, wanting to speak yet holding back. He didn't know how to defend himself.

Shaking his head with a heavy sigh, Zhang Zhengdao said, "You clearly didn't have to kill him."

"I didn't want to kill him at first."

Jiu Fengchun pulled at his hair, his mind in turmoil.

He said, "I just couldn't bear to leave this place. He saw my face, and I'd be found out sooner or later. Rather than let that happen, I thought..."

Hearing this, Zhang Zhengdao pursed his lips, entirely at a loss for words.

"I didn't want to cause trouble for you, Priest."

Zhang Zhengdao felt a bitter pang in his heart. He knew Jiu Fengchun's intentions were good, but he simply didn't understand reason or how to adapt to circumstances, which was why it had come to this.

After a moment's thought, he said, "Fellow Daoist, I really don't know what to say to you..."

Jiu Fengchun kept his head bowed and said, "Priest, I should just leave."

Zhang Zhengdao said, "You aren't bad by nature, but you understand far too little of the ways of the world. That was why you acted so impulsively today. You must never do this again."

Jiu Fengchun nodded and said, "I know. I won't. Never again."

Zhang Zhengdao gave a slight nod and sighed, "What's done is done, and the man is already dead. This is all we can do for now. Find a place to hide on Hidden Immortal Mountain, and I'll deal with those Daoist cultivators later."

Jiu Fengchun felt terrible, but at the thought of being able to stay, he did as he was told.

With someone dead, the cultivators who had come from the Mortal World inevitably grew suspicious.

Traces at the scene were sparse, and their Divine Abilities failed to track the killer. Left with no other options, they could only go ask Zhang Zhengdao.

"Did Senior hear any commotion that night?"

Zhang Zhengdao simply shook his head and said, "I was meditating at the peak that night and didn't hear a thing. Why? Did something happen?"

Hearing this, the Daoist cultivators didn't press any further.

"It's nothing. You should rest, Senior."

Zhang Zhengdao brushed the matter aside with an excuse.

However, the incident put all the Daoist cultivators on high alert. Whenever they came to inspect the Spirit Spring, they always moved in groups. In order to catch the killer, they even stood guard around the clock, taking shifts day and night.

Because of this, Jiu Fengchun lost his only chance to fill his stomach.

He could only endure the hunger, endlessly scouring the mountain for anything to eat—spiritual fruits, wild vegetation, immortal herbs, or the occasional wild game.

He didn't eat any beasts that had developed spiritual awareness, restricting his own behavior, but as the starvation slowly set in, his mind grew increasingly clouded.

At night, he found a stick and clamped it between his teeth.

"Haa, haa..."

Panting in agony, he tied himself to a tree.

Jiu Fengchun sensed that he was about to lose his sanity, and this was his only way to cope.

Hearing the faint rustling, Zhang Zhengdao followed the noise to investigate.

But when he arrived at the spot, he saw a pile of ropes left on the ground. The tree trunk itself was covered in scratch and bite marks.

Zhang Zhengdao frowned, unable to help but wonder what had happened.

In a flash, it suddenly dawned on him!

"Not good!"

He hurried down the mountain, following the Spiritual Vein toward the Spirit Spring to look for him.

"Ah!!"

A bloodcurdling scream rang out.

He saw a Daoist cultivator with a severed arm sprinting frantically outward.

The man blew past Zhang Zhengdao. His eyes were wide with terror, filled with nothing but the desperate urge to escape.

Zhang Zhengdao ignored him and hurried forward.

When he finally reached the Spirit Spring, he saw a figure crouched over someone's body, and the constant sounds of gnawing and tearing reached his ears.

"Crunch, gulp..."

The figure before him was covered in blood. The air around the Spiritual Vein was thick with a heavy stench of blood that lingered stubbornly.

Trembling, Zhang Zhengdao stared at the scene in utter disbelief.

"Fellow Daoist..."

This single voice seemed to restore a sliver of sanity to the feral Jiu Fengchun.

He slowly turned his head to look at him.

In this moment, Jiu Fengchun's face and body were entirely covered in blood.

Before him lay a Daoist cultivator whose insides had been eaten completely hollow. A pool of blood coated the ground, seeping into the dirt and flowing away down the trenches.

"Priest... Priest..."

Jiu Fengchun's voice trembled as he suddenly clutched his head.

Looking down, he saw the corpse he had just eaten. Panic suddenly seized his heart.

"What have I done..."

"I..."

Jiu Fengchun stared at the scene, completely horrified.

He scrambled over to the edge of the Spirit Spring and frantically gulped down the liquid, trying to force some clarity back into his mind.

He bit down hard on his tongue, the pain finally snapping him back to reality.

Looking at the grisly butchery, Zhang Zhengdao found it even harder to believe that the Fellow Daoist before him had done all this.

"You ate them!!"

Zhang Zhengdao cried out in terror; even he couldn't accept the nightmarish sight before him.

"Priest, let me explain."

Jiu Fengchun staggered to his feet, his voice pleading. "I'm not like that. I didn't want to eat them, I didn't..."

Zhang Zhengdao shook his head and said, "I saw it with my own eyes! How can you possibly deny it?!"

Clutching his head, Jiu Fengchun said, "I really didn't!"

"I didn't..."
