She spoke calmly: “Don’t worry.”
Mo Yu shook his head. “I fear for myself less… It’s Lihua I worry for. It still understands nothing.”
Manyue glanced at him. “Lihua should be safe.”
Jian Shenghua exhaled. “My fate matters little. Since escaping Spirit Cage, I knew I’d just linger under Heavenly Dao’s watch. Better to follow Mr. Chen’s plan—cast a grand gamble.”
Mo Yu nodded slowly. “True enough.”
Perhaps he’d long been prepared in his heart.

His tone felt icy.
Chen Changsheng asked: “No visitors? Has something happened inside?”
“Turn back,” the youth repeated, offering no explanation.
Chen Changsheng pressed: “I’ve come to find Master Zhong. Young Daoist Priest, could you pass word?”
The youth stayed unmoved.
Seeing no reaction,
Chen Changsheng relented: “Very well.”
He walked away—but already pinched a Paper Doll in hand.
The Paper Doll took his form and departed.
Meanwhile, he cast an Arcane Spell to vanish, slipping toward Tianji Mountain.
The youth watched the figure leave, dropping his guard.
He never knew the real Chen Changsheng had entered the mountain.
Inside, Chen Changsheng indeed sensed strangeness.
A powerful yet chaotic energy pulsed within—unsteady, like flickering candlelight.
Chen Changsheng felt puzzled but stayed focused. He hurried toward the highest pavilion.
There, Zhong Zhengyuan and fellow Daoist Priests sat meditating. Chen Daoqiu joined them before a wall of candles.
Forty-nine lamps once burned. Now five stood dark.
For years, they hadn’t relit.
Seeing the solemn silence in the hall, Chen Changsheng hesitated to disturb.
So he waited quietly at the entrance.
Two hours passed.
Only when the ritual ended—when Zhong Zhengyuan and others withdrew their power—did movement stir.
“…Alas.”
Zhong Zhengyuan sighed wearily.
Chen Daoqiu offered softly: “Senior Brother, despair not. Heavenly Dao’s flaw isn’t ordinary. Our failure to fix it isn’t surprising.”
Zhong Zhengyuan nodded faintly. “We’ll try another divination in days.”
“Alright.”
Chen Daoqiu agreed, heart heavy.
His Senior Brother had exhausted himself over years—draining Magical Power and Merit to mend Heavenly Dao, leaving hair white as an elderly man’s.
Suddenly Zhong Zhengyuan turned toward the entrance.
He rose quickly, approaching.
“When did Mr. Chen arrive?”
The hall snapped to attention.
All eyes fixed on the Green-Robed Gentleman by the door in surprise.
Chen Changsheng answered: “Just now.”
Zhong Zhengyuan glanced at Chen Daoqiu, who nodded. Then he walked to Chen Changsheng.
“Let’s speak elsewhere.”
Zhong Zhengyuan led the way to Tianji Mountain’s Back Mountain.
On the path, Chen Changsheng noted: “Master Zhong seems aged lately.”
“Self-inflicted troubles. Never mind.”
Chen Changsheng asked no more.
At the bamboo hut, Zhong Zhengyuan poured tea. Its fragrance cleared the mind.
After a sip, Chen Changsheng began: “I seek Master Zhong for a question.”
Zhong Zhengyuan looked up. “Ask freely.”
