Immortal Travel of Longevity
Chapter 593: I Don’t Even Need to Call for HelpPatriarch Yun was panicked. He said from the side, “Mr. Chen, this trouble started because of my Yun Manor. To see you face such a tribulation because of it fills my heart with guilt. Please, go ahead! This old man will fight with his life to get you safely out!”
Chen Changsheng was stunned for a moment upon hearing this, then chuckled, “Patriarch Yun, there’s no need. Actually…”
“Mr. Chen, run now!!”
Patriarch Yun stepped forward, suddenly raising his arm. A small sword flew from his sleeve, transforming into a gleaming Immortal Sword. He gripped it tightly in his hand.
In just an instant, his level of power surged to the Divine Transformation Stage, and it was still climbing.
Ji Fuyao swept her sleeve dismissively and said coldly, “Kill him!”
Chen Changsheng’s heart skipped a beat. He realized Patriarch Yun was deadly serious now; he had activated a secret technique.
But such secret methods often carried severe consequences. This couldn’t go on any longer.
Chen Changsheng stepped forward, raising his hand. A stream of magical power flowed into Patriarch Yun’s body from his shoulder.
The imposing aura around him also steadily declined, eventually settling back at the Golden Core Level.
“Mr. Chen, you…” Patriarch Yun stammered.
“Be careful,” Chen Changsheng said, pulling Patriarch Yun behind him.
“Clang!”
The sound of a zither suddenly swept through the air.
They saw sonic waves transform into lion, tiger, snake, and fish Dharma Forms rushing towards them.
Chen Changsheng swept his sleeve out. A gentle breeze swept past.
The oncoming waves vanished in the blink of an eye, as if blown apart by the wind.
But that wasn’t the end.
Ji Fuyao suddenly advanced. As she raised her hands, a pair of silver bells appeared in her grasp.
“Ding-a-ling, ding-a-ling…”
The sound of the silver bells assaulted their soul spirits, impossible to evade.
Immediately, Patriarch Yun felt dizzy and disoriented. He could barely stay standing, his face twisted in pain.
Chen Changsheng calmly formed a hand seal. “Evil Sound Curse Art, enter not the ear. Be dispelled!”
As his words fell, Patriarch Yun slowly began to recover.
Chen Changsheng, however, seemed utterly unaffected by the silver bells. He said, “Palace Master, you truly haven’t learned that setbacks make one wiser.”
Ji Fuyao responded, “Daoist Friend Chen, there is still room for negotiation. This Palace Master truly does not wish to see you dead.”
Chen Changsheng smiled serenely, “Don’t worry, Palace Master. I shall spare your life in a little while too.”
Chen Changsheng stretched out his hand and called, “Yuqing Sword, come forth!”
An Immortal Sword manifested in appearance, grasped firmly in his hand.
When Ji Fuyao saw the sword hilt, she clearly froze.
How familiar!
Chen Changsheng asked, “It seems the Palace Master recognizes this sword.”
Ji Fuyao’s expression changed drastically. “Why do you have Zhao Yuqing’s sword?!”
“Well now,” Chen Changsheng said, “you could say he gifted it to me.”
He added, “Actually, this sword should have long been enjoying its peaceful retirement. If my own sword were close by, I wouldn’t trouble it to come out and work.”
As he spoke, he raised the sword in his hand and pointed it at Ji Fuyao.
“Allow me, Chen, to offer the Palace Master some instruction.”
As his words faded, sword qi and sword intent suddenly surged and expanded within the great hall.
Ji Fuyao panicked for a split second, then commanded, “Disciples, obey orders! Set the Qiongqi Killing Formation!”
“Yes!”
The cultivators of Qinle Palace instantly sat down cross-legged. In a moment, hundreds of zither melodies rang out together.
“Clang!”
As the music steadily rose, streams of magical power converged.
Above the hall, the sound of the zither and the gathered power took on the Dharma Form of the fierce beast Qiongqi. A piercing roar filled the air, thick with killing intent.
Chen Changsheng said quietly, “Patriarch Yun, please remain behind me.”
Patriarch Yun urged, “Sir, you absolutely must be careful!”
He gripped his sword tightly, ready to act. He decided that if Mr. Chen faced mortal danger, he would risk his own life to save him.
Chen Changsheng spoke calmly. “No need to be so tense. To fight them…” he paused, “…I don’t even need to call for help.”
Patriarch Yun blinked, confused.
Call for help? What did that mean?
Looking at the Qiongqi Dharma Form, Chen Changsheng shook his head slightly. “It has some semblance of the beast, but the aura is lacking.”
The Qiongqi’s cry sounded like a howling dog. It lifted its head and roared long and loud, its fierce, vicious eyes fixed firmly on Chen Changsheng.
Ji Fuyao’s voice turned icy and detached. “Kill!”
The Qiongqi rushed forward. Its power also swelled the moment the zither music intensified its notes.
“Clang! Clang-clang…!”
The killing aura within the zither music surged with the tempo of the piece. The Qiongqi was intrinsically linked to the collective melody played by the massed cultivators.
Indeed, the legacy of Qinle Palace could be called first-rate. Transforming the sound of zithers into divine beasts and manifesting thousands of changing Dharma Forms—such a method truly spoke of profound and marvelous skill.
Chen Changsheng raised the Yuqing Sword in his hand and decreed,
“Sword qi criss-cross, Dharma Forms disperse!
Sword Intent, arise!”
A desolate, mournful wave of sword qi radiated out within the great hall.
In that instant alone, most of the cultivators seemed to freeze mentally. Their zither notes faltered. Consequently, the Qiongqi Dharma Form’s aura dwindled instantly as well.
“Cut!”
Chen Changsheng lifted his sword and struck towards the Qiongqi.
His sword qi swept out. The Qiongqi Dharma Form seemed as flimsy as a sheet of paper. In an instant, it was utterly destroyed before their eyes.
The sword qi passed straight through, barreling directly towards Ji Fuyao.
Ji Fuyao saw this and plucked her Chang Qin. A powerful chord rang out.
“Clang!”
“Iron Horses and Frozen River!”
The zither sound transformed into armored horses and icy soldiers charging forward with a mighty momentum.
But ultimately, it could not stop the sword qi.
BOOM!
The Dharma Form shattered! The Chang Qin splintered into pieces. Ji Fuyao spat out a mouthful of blood and was flung backwards like a ragdoll.
“Palace Master!”
The disciples in the hall were terrified. They rushed forward swiftly to shield their master.
Ji Fuyao coughed weakly. She looked disheveled as she lay on the ground. Glaring fiercely at Chen Changsheng, she shrieked, “Kill him!”
In a mere instant, thousands of disciples surged forward, surrounding Chen Changsheng and Patriarch Yun completely.
Chen Changsheng shook his head. “How uninteresting…”
He addressed Patriarch Yun calmly, “Step back a bit.”
Patriarch Yun was startled by this, but obeyed, stepping back cautiously.
“A little further.”
Patriarch Yun duly took a few more steps back.
Chen Changsheng tightened his grip on the sword, lifting it. He ran a fingertip along the blade.
His gaze slowly traveled over the sword body. This weathered, battle-scarred Immortal Sword was about to witness glory once more; it deserved to show its true power.
There was no wind, no rain. Yet, a sudden, chilling cold blossomed within the great hall.
Outside, atop the Immortal Mountain belonging to Qinle Palace, snow began to fall for no apparent reason—fluttering down like pale flowers.
Within moments, the snow intensified fiercely, as if intent on burying everything.
Inside the hall, thousands of disciples glared with fury. Guided by the strumming of zither strings and accompanied by battle cries, hundreds upon thousands of Dharma Forms shaped like armored horses and icy soldiers surged forward like an unstoppable tide.
Chen Changsheng raised a fingertip and lightly traced an elegant arc through the air—a blossom of pure sword light.
In that instant…
The snowflakes outside the hall slowed to a crawl.
The murderous Dharma Forms frozen in their charge suddenly halted.
Every person in the hall was rendered motionless, expressions locked in place.
A single sword arc swept outward.
A crescent moon of sword qi erupted from the ground beneath his feet, surging upward and outward with unstoppable force.
Mountains crumbled. The earth split.
