Jiang Chengxiu watched as his master and martial uncle stood up, looking shocked. He was especially confused and asked, “What twenty years? Master, Martial Uncle, are you talking about some Senior?”

Sword Immortal Dongqing and Xu Chenghuang looked at Jiang Chengxiu, but they both seemed to want to say something yet held back.

“You could say he was a senior,” Sword Immortal Dongqing gave a light cough and said, “He was the senior brother of your master and your Third Martial Uncle.”

Sword Mountain’s fortunes rose and fell unpredictably, with generations coming and going. These newer disciples had now become elders. This was the case for Xu Chenghuang and Dongqing.

The elders of the previous generation were either in seclusion, traveling outside seeking breakthroughs, or had become Great Elders — transforming into seemingly ordinary old seniors guarding places like the Library Pavilion or the Sword Burial Peak.

Upon hearing this, Sword Immortal Dongqing paused and said, “That’s not quite how you should put it.”

“Huh?” Jiang Chengxiu blinked. “My master’s senior brother… that is my Martial Uncle, right?”

“Ahem…” Xu Chenghuang cleared his throat lightly. “It’s just that you can’t address him that way.”

This felt rather awkward.

Who would call themselves their own Martial Uncle?

Chen Changsheng smiled and said, “Although awkward, there’s no need to overthink it. It’s not an important matter anyway.”

“Mr. Chen speaks wisely,” Sword Immortal Dongqing nodded.

Jiang Chengxiu blinked. “Oh? Really…”

Chen Changsheng’s gaze rested on Jiang Chengxiu. He couldn’t help but think how vastly a person’s rebirth could change them — outward appearance to inner heart, everything transformed.

If not for the trace of Karma left, probably no one would recognize the present Jiang Chengxiu as that once peerless Sword Immortal.

Chen Changsheng said, “The Rain-Listening Sword mentioned you have a unique understanding of swords, incredible perception, born a natural talent for learning the sword. Curiosity got the better of me, so I wanted to call you over for a look. I hope I’m not disturbing you?”

“N-no, not at all.”

Jiang Chengxiu dared not accept such a remark.

He didn’t know exactly who this Mr. Chen was, but hearing Third Martial Uncle speak of him, he knew this was a senior who deserved utmost respect.

Chen Changsheng said, “Come closer.”

Jiang Chengxiu hesitated for a moment, looking toward his master.

Sword Immortal Dongqing said, “If Mr. Chen asks you to come closer, then come closer.”

Jiang Chengxiu nodded, then stepped forward.

Chen Changsheng reached out, extracted a wisp of golden light — his Magical Power — and guided it into Jiang Chengxiu’s body.

Jiang Chengxiu paused, feeling a warm current flow throughout his entire being. After making two full Cycles, the warmth settled in his Dantian — the core region below his navel.

Chen Changsheng remarked, “Truly a natural-born talent for the sword.”

Jiang Chengxiu felt embarrassed, blushing hard.

“What is it?” Chen Changsheng asked with a smile.

Jiang Chengxiu opened his mouth and said, “This junior’s accomplishments in the sword path aren’t actually high. I don’t deserve such praise from Mr. Chen.”

He knew his own limits well enough.

Without that sword, he was nothing.

Chen Changsheng said, “I can see that. The Rain-Listening Sword must have caused you quite a bit of trouble.”

Jiang Chengxiu froze, muttering, “Mr. Chen… you actually knew…”

Chen Changsheng gave a slight nod. “When I say you are a natural-born sword talent, I mean it. It’s just that you haven’t yet discovered how great your own hidden potential is. The road must be walked step by step. Your time hasn’t come.”

Jiang Chengxiu was taken aback. “Dare I ask Mr. Chen, what kind of ‘time’ are you speaking of? Is it a stage? Or grasping some understanding?”

Chen Changsheng stated calmly, “It’s just one thought.”

“A thought?”

“Correct.”

Chen Changsheng continued, “Don’t keep pressing for more. Some things, spoken too plainly, only make the listener more confused. The path ahead for you is long. Step by step, a day will come when you reach the summit.”

Jiang Chengxiu’s lips parted slightly. Several questions rose in his throat, but the words clogged there, unable to come out.

Sword Immortal Dongqing noted Chen Changsheng’s expression.

He was extremely curious how this Mr. Chen had come to know Senior Brother Bai and what their history had been.

Jiang Chengxiu clasped his hands respectfully. “This junior shall definitely practice the sword diligently from now on.”

Chen Changsheng glanced at him, smiling. “You really should practice hard.”

Jiang Chengxiu gave an awkward little laugh.

His measly skills were probably evident to Mr. Chen.

Xu Chenghuang said, “See? Serves you right for slacking off normally. Getting scolded now, eh?”

Jiang Chengxiu scratched his head. “Third Martial Uncle, when have I slacked off?”

Xu Chenghuang simply snorted, offering no explanation.

Sword Immortal Dongqing chuckled. “Alright, Chengxiu, you may take your leave now. Your master has matters to discuss with Mr. Chen.”

Hearing this, Jiang Chengxiu felt a wave of relief inside. “Yes, Master.”

He hurried away, unwilling to linger another moment.

Only after Jiang Chengxiu had left did Sword Immortal Dongqing ask his question. “But, Mr. Chen, how did you recognize Chengxiu is Senior Brother Bai?”

Chen Changsheng replied, “A trace of Karma still lingered on Jiang Chengxiu. It should have faded, but perhaps due to the Rain-Listening Sword, seeing a familiar person from a past life caused a remnant to linger.”

“However, now that I’ve taken the Rain-Listening Sword, it should be fine. That Karma will slowly disperse.”

Sword Immortal Dongqing still felt puzzled. “To be honest, I don’t know much about rebirth in this world. But thinking logically, it seems Karma from a past life shouldn’t linger into this life. Why would Chengxiu’s…”

Chen Changsheng said, “Frankly, my understanding of Reincarnation in this world also isn’t deep. But I have some thoughts regarding Jiang Chengxiu’s current situation.”

“Please speak, Mr. Chen.”

“The cycle of Reincarnation in this world… to this day, it remains flawed. An accident may have caused past Karma to linger into this life. But, I believe the Great Dao will slowly correct errors. With time, the Karma on Jiang Chengxiu left over from his past life will gradually fade.”

“The condition is that he must not remain connected to those with whom he had deep, unresolved Karma in his past life. Otherwise, that Karma might stretch on endlessly. If it stirs up matters of his past life… that would be troublesome.”

Sword Immortal Dongqing understood now. “I will pay close attention to this.”

Xu Chenghuang, who had been listening nearby, spoke up. “Earlier I heard Mr. Chen say he met Senior Brother Bai over twenty years ago. I too have a question. Chengxiu… he’s only nineteen now. Doesn’t that mean shortly after you met Senior Brother Bai, he passed away? Only two or three years later he had Rebirth? Also… does Mr. Chen know why Senior Brother Bai passed?”

Chen Changsheng replied, “Regarding Rebirth, I cannot provide a concrete explanation. The workings of Heaven and Earth’s Reincarnation are profound and mysterious. If I could fully comprehend them, I perhaps wouldn’t harbor as many lingering regrets.”

“As for Daoist Friend Bai…” Chen Changsheng paused, then said, “He passed away because he exhausted his Lifespan.”

“Exhausted his Lifespan?”

Upon hearing this, both Xu Chenghuang and Dongqing looked stunned.

Without meaning to, a single thought arose in both of their minds:

He was lying!

Given Senior Brother Bai’s level of cultivation, how could he possibly have exhausted his Lifespan in such a short span of time?
