But when Chen Changsheng looked at Manyue, his heart skipped a beat.
He saw Manyue’s form gradually turning illusory. Her once solid body now revealed the scenery behind her.
Seeing this, Chen Changsheng raised his eyebrows and called out, “Miss Manyue.”
Manyue let out a soft sigh and said, “It’s alright. Just a large consumption of the Power of Heaven and Earth. I’ll slowly recover later.”
She looked at Chen Changsheng and continued, “For what comes next, I’m afraid I cannot help you.”
Chen Changsheng leaped lightly into the air and lifted his sleeve. A book flew out from within it.
“Whoosh…”
The “Sutra of Rebirth” flipped back and forth high in the air.
The wind stirred Reincarnation, revealing this Great Dao.
As a beam of Golden Light entered the Sutra of Rebirth, the book suddenly began to shine brilliantly.
Watching this scene, Manyue couldn’t help but feel emotion well up inside.
Just this single book consumed so many years. For it, countless people died only to begin anew…
Now, the results could finally be seen.
As the pages flipped again, a great gust of wind swept through the realm. The wind howled violently. Suddenly, pages began to separate from the book. The words written upon them drifted upwards slowly, glowing with Golden Light.
But then that Golden Light dimmed somewhat.
Seeing this, Chen Changsheng drew upon his Magical Power once more. Strand by strand, the Magical Power within his hair was pulled out. A vast torrent of Magical Power poured forth.
Even Manyue gasped in astonishment at this sight.
‘Just how much Magical Power does he have?’
But what Manyue did not see was how Chen Changsheng’s expression grew increasingly tense. Even struggle was evident within his brows.
This was a situation Chen Changsheng had never faced before.
The speed at which the Sutra of Rebirth was absorbing Magical Power was far faster than he could channel it.
Chen Changsheng’s heart lurched. Suddenly, he felt things slipping out of his control.
The Magical Power within his hair was being drawn out and absorbed incessantly by the pages, without his command.
It was like a whirlpool that wouldn’t let him retreat.
Chen Changsheng grunted. He straightened his posture, rallied his spirit, and fought back.
But even so, there was no improvement.
He grunted through gritted teeth, locked in a tug-of-war with the pages.
Manyue seemed to grasp his predicament too. She furrowed her brow and called out, “Chen Changsheng?”
“Chen Changsheng?”
She took half a step forward and shouted, “Chen Changsheng!!”
Just as she prepared to rush forward.
Chen Changsheng suddenly yelled, “Don’t come any closer!”
The sharpness in his tone stopped Manyue in her tracks.
Her gaze fixed on the Sutra of Rebirth, a bad feeling rising within her.
‘Is that book absorbing Chen Changsheng’s Magical Power?’
Manyue’s frown deepened.
She wanted to step forward to help him, but the vortex-like force of the pages made it impossible for her to take even half a step.
Chen Changsheng took a deep breath. He had underestimated what was within that book.
But thinking about it, it made sense.
This Sutra of Rebirth was the accumulation of 140,000 years. Even though the Magical Power within his hair was vast, it was probably still insufficient to truly evolve the Path of Reincarnation.
Manyue saw this too and called out urgently, “Chen Changsheng! Pull back quickly!”
Chen Changsheng, however, shook his head and said, “Let me try…”
Manyue froze. Disbelieving, she cried out, “Are you mad?!”
Chen Changsheng didn’t answer. His focus was entirely on the pages.
He knew from the start this wouldn’t be smooth sailing. There would always be an insurmountable mountain waiting ahead.
The pages’ absorption intensified violently.
The surrounding cliffs began to move. Rocks flew into the air. The mountains trembled, seeming ready to be ripped from their roots.
“Pull back now, or you’ll be sucked dry!” Manyue cried anxiously.
A guttural roar tore from Chen Changsheng’s throat.
The stream of golden Magical Power they were absorbing abruptly widened. A raging wind whipped up. The hairpin flew from Chen Changsheng’s head, and his hair streamed wildly behind him in the wind.
Manyue was blasted several miles back by the shockwave.
Suddenly, an immense crashing roar echoed out.
“CRAAAACK-BOOOOOM!”
A giant mountain not far away was ripped from its roots.
One, then two, then three mountains…
Countless boulders surged towards the pages.
The mountains shuddered, fracturing into countless massive rocks under the vibrations. They whirled around Chen Changsheng and the floating pages.
“CRUMPH!!”
Huge boulders crashed onto Chen Changsheng’s body, shattering to pieces. He remained unmoving, channeling his Magical Power steadily into the pages.
Seeing this, Manyue hastily channeled the Power of Heaven and Earth.
She raised two fingers.
“SUPPRESS!!”
The mountains and rivers instantly seemed frozen in place.
The hanging boulders in the air plummeted to the ground. The mountains threatening to uproot stabilized.
Manyue’s form became noticeably more translucent once again.
Chen Changsheng remained locked in stalemate with the pages.
Flowing hair flashed in his peripheral vision.
In a dazed moment, he thought he saw patch after patch of white.
In what felt like mere moments, black silk was turning white hair.
But Chen Changsheng didn’t stop.
Right now, he was stubborn. Stubborn to a point of no return.
This was his obsession for over a hundred years. He absolutely would not allow himself to stop again.
With Chen Changsheng’s roar, the light blazing from the pages suddenly flared scorching bright, like a sun flooding the world.
The moon in the sky paled in comparison. The raging blood waters of the Blood Sea beneath, steamed dry by the glaring brilliance.
“Stop this!!” Seeing Chen Changsheng swaying violently, Manyue’s worry grew unbearable.
But just as her shout faded.
Another violent pulse of power blasted outwards from the pages.
Manyue was thrown miles back once more. The Power of Heaven and Earth’s suppression evaporated instantly.
“Cough…”
Manyue gave a light cough, her form now almost completely illusory.
She couldn’t go on like this. One more hit, and she would likely perish too.
Her expression was grave. Reluctantly, she had no choice but to retreat.
Without her suppression, the mountains shook violently once again. Swirling boulders hurtled back towards Chen Changsheng.
Flying rocks tore his robes, swirling dust smeared his Blue Robe with grime. For the first time in over a hundred years… he was in such a state of complete disarray.
Chen Changsheng’s gaze held fierce determination. It was the stubbornness of one who would not relent. Gritting his teeth, he snarled, “I possess boundless Magical Power! How could I not evolve Reincarnation?!”
His cry echoed across the entire Demon Realm.
Hearing this, Manyue shook her head in confusion.
She didn’t understand. Why had the usually calm Chen Changsheng become like this? That stubbornness… it was as if he had fallen onto the Demon Path itself.
He would rather lose his life than abandon this…
When Manyue looked up again.
A blinding flash of light filled her vision.
Accompanying it, a roar that made her ears ring.
In that split second, all sound ceased. The hurtling boulders disintegrated into dust amidst the vibrations…
One instant.
Perfect, total silence.
