Immortal Travel of Longevity
Chapter 632: Is This Your First Day Knowing Me?Yu Hongjin was dead set against opening the door, leaving Chen Changsheng to stare blankly at the entrance, unsure of what to do.
He couldn't exactly bully the little girl.
As he pondered this, a voice sounded from behind the door.
"Little Miss, who is outside?"
Hearing this, Yu Hongjin quickly replied, "No, nobody!"
She blocked the door. Seeing the little miss looking so nervous, Zhishu knew she was lying.
Peering through the crack in the door, Zhishu caught what seemed to be a glimpse of a green robe. She stepped forward and said, "Little Miss, when a guest comes to visit, you can't block them outside. If the young miss finds out, you'll be spanked again."
"Sister Zhishu, there's no one outside, really," Yu Hongjin argued.
Zhishu smiled helplessly. "You've never been good at lying, Little Miss. Come on, out of the way."
Zhishu stepped up and pulled the door open.
But when she saw the person standing outside, she froze.
It took Zhishu a long moment to regain her senses, suddenly finding herself at a loss.
Recovering in a flurry of panic, Zhishu hurriedly bowed. "Greetings, Mister Chen."
"Is Miss Yun in the courtyard?" Chen Changsheng asked.
"She is, she is," Zhishu rushed to answer. "I'll go call the young miss right now."
"Miss! Miss!"
"Mister Chen has returned!"
"Miss!!"
In her fluster, Zhishu completely forgot to invite Mister Chen inside, focused solely on calling for her mistress.
At the doorway, Yu Hongjin and Chen Changsheng locked eyes.
Chen Changsheng looked down at her. "You haven't grown a bit taller after all these years."
Yu Hongjin rolled her eyes at him. "That's your fault! If you hadn't forced me to drink by the lotus pond back then, why else would I be stuck looking like a child?"
"Didn't you want to drink it yourself?"
"Can't a child be foolish and not know any better?"
Chen Changsheng chuckled at this, nodding. "Of course. Sure you can."
Yu Hongjin snorted twice, then asked, "By the way, you mentioned having some Autumn Moon Brew earlier. Was that true or false? I haven't had any in ages."
"False."
"Liar!"
Chen Changsheng burst into laughter and patted her head.
But he suddenly looked up, hearing a flurry of footsteps coming from upstairs.
The woman in the green dress descended the stairs in a panic, lifting her skirts and hurrying as though she couldn't afford to wait a single second longer.
Halfway down, Yunxiang looked toward the doorway. Seeing the green-robed gentleman waiting there, her pace instantly slowed.
'It really is him...'
Yunxiang slowly walked down the rest of the stairs.
She reached the door, stopping right in front of Chen Changsheng.
Chen Changsheng gazed at her. Miss Yun's features bore the marks of passing time, faint wrinkles of weathering at the corners of her eyes. Time forgave no one; even an Immortal would age.
Before Chen Changsheng could speak, Yunxiang broke the silence.
"Why haven't you come inside?"
"If the master of the house hasn't invited me in, how could This Chen dare intrude?" Chen Changsheng said.
Yunxiang let out a soft laugh, too absorbed in simply looking at him to say more.
Seeing Sister Yun act like this, Yu Hongjin opened her mouth to speak, but found she had nothing to say. Ultimately, her words dissolved into a sigh, and she walked off to the side.
Entering the courtyard, Chen Changsheng took a seat at the stone table.
"You rarely descend to the Mortal World, Mister, and this trip has taken another three years. How does the Immortal Realm compare to the Mortal World?"
Chen Changsheng thought about it for a moment. "I suppose it cannot compare to the Mortal World."
Listening to the two of them talk in the courtyard, Yu Hongjin found it increasingly grating to her ears. She simply walked out the door without a word of farewell.
Once outside, she changed her appearance.
She didn't know when it had started, but everyone in Qingshan City had eventually learned about a young girl who loved to drink. Although outsiders assumed she was simply a dwarf, people still frequently called her a freak who never grew up. Over time, some even began to fear her.
Left with no choice, Yu Hongjin had to adopt a different face whenever she went out. This spared her a great deal of gossip.
According to her usual routine, she would ask around to see which family was hosting a banquet, then slip in to freeload off the food and drink. This trick never failed.
But her luck seemed poor today. With no one throwing a feast, she had no choice but to go buy her own wine.
She hadn't had much silver these past few years. Sister Yun had been docking her allowance, so it took several days of saving just to afford a single jug of wine.
Yu Hongjin really hated spending the money, but she couldn't bear to go without drinking either.
Yu Hongjin arrived at a familiar wine shop.
It was the tavern run by Li Lao'er out in town.
"Uncle, my father told me to buy two liang of wine!"
Li Lao'er said, "I say, little girl, who exactly is your father? I've asked around everywhere and still haven't figured out whose child you are."
He found it strange. Over the past two years, kids had constantly been coming to buy wine from him. One would claim to be a niece, another a nephew. Every time a child showed up for wine, he would fleetingly feel they looked familiar, but upon closer inspection, they were never the same kid from the previous time.
Because of this, Li Lao'er had even started suspecting his memory was failing him and had gone to see a doctor.
"My father, my father is..."
"If you don't give me a straight answer, I'm not selling you any wine."
Yu Hongjin paused at this, then said, "I'll have my daddy come vouch for me tomorrow. He said you're my uncle, so it can't be fake."
She lowered her head, pretending she didn't know anything else.
And truth be told, her act was quite convincing.
"That's what you said last time, too," Li Lao'er said.
"Did I?"
Yu Hongjin genuinely couldn't remember.
After all these years, she couldn't even count how many times she had conned Li Lao'er.
Li Lao'er gave a helpless smile. "So which family are you really from?"
"I-I-I..."
Yu Hongjin's eyes suddenly reddened as she spoke. "I don't know, I don't know..."
Big tears instantly tumbled down her cheeks.
Seeing this, Li Lao'er instantly panicked. "Hey, hey, hey, don't cry, don't cry! This..."
"Oh my."
Suddenly, a voice drifted over from the side.
"Scamming people for drinks again, are we?"
Yu Hongjin stiffened the moment she heard that voice.
She looked back, only to find a familiar face standing right behind her.
For a split second, Yu Hongjin was completely dumbfounded.
"Y-y-you..."
Mo Yuan smiled, firmly grabbing Yu Hongjin's shoulder so she couldn't run.
Noting the newcomer's luxurious clothing, Li Lao'er blinked in surprise and quickly said, "Young Master, I certainly wasn't..."
He tried to explain himself.
But Mo Yuan waved a hand. "I know, there's no need to explain."
Relieved, Li Lao'er asked, "Are you this little girl's older brother, or..."
Mo Yuan smiled. "I'm her father."
"Huh?"
"Don't we look alike?"
"No, no, it's just that you look so young, sir. My old eyes have failed me, failed me completely."
Listening to the two of them, Yu Hongjin frantically protested, "He's not! No, he's not my father! He isn't!"
She glared up at Mo Yuan. "Are you taking advantage of me?!"
Li Lao'er stared blankly, utterly lost as to what was happening.
Mo Yuan chuckled. "She's always been unreasonable. I hope you won't mind."
"So that's how it is..."
Li Lao'er looked at Yu Hongjin. "Little girl, you really ought to listen to your father."
"No, I'm..."
Yu Hongjin looked left and right, suddenly realizing she couldn't explain her way out of this.
Mo Yuan gazed down at her with a smile. "Tell me, am I your father or not?"
That smile instantly sent a chill down Yu Hongjin's spine.
She gulped and fell dead silent.
Mo Yuan let out a laugh. "Let's go, daughter. Come home with Daddy."
Yu Hongjin gnashed her teeth, muttering under her breath, "Shameless!"
"Is this your first day knowing me?"
