Lihua was very polite, inviting Priest Wuwei inside.
Wuwei looked at the Tabby Cat. He could faintly sense a trace of the aura of the four seasons emanating from it, giving him the distinct feeling that he could not see through the creature at all.
It seemed this Tabby Cat had also encountered many opportunities over the years.
"Lihua! Where did you go!"
Ruyi called out.
Lihua said, "There's a priest outside that Lihua knows. I wanted to invite him in to play."
It wasn't that it was foolish; rather, Lihua was no longer what it used to be. It simply wasn't afraid of the Daoist priest anymore.
"A priest?"
The gazes of everyone in the courtyard shifted toward the door.
The door opened.
Daoist Wuwei looked at the figures in the courtyard.
Some were familiar, and some were strangers. The familiar ones were exceptionally so; the strangers he had never seen before.
One emanated Dragon's Might, one was protected by incense and the destiny of a nation, one possessed a body filled with golden light and Magical Power, and as for the last one—he had dealt with him long ago and could not be any more familiar.
Ruyi recognized the Daoist at a glance, her gaze instantly sharpening with vigilance.
"From Qingxian Temple." Ruyi stood up, her hand gripping the Long Spear beside her.
Chen Changsheng said, "Priest Wuwei has no ill intentions."
Hearing this, Ruyi paused, finally lowering the spear in her hand.
Daoist Wuwei looked into the courtyard and said, "This poor Daoist... greets everyone."
Unaware of the underlying history, Ping'an stood up and offered, "Please, Priest, come in."
Daoist Wuwei shook his head and said, "This poor Daoist has no intention of intruding, so I will not enter the courtyard."
Ping'an paused, a bit confused.
Lihua froze for a moment and asked, "Why aren't you coming in?"
Daoist Wuwei smiled warmly and said, "No reason."
He looked at everyone in the courtyard, and finally, his gaze landed on Chen Changsheng.
"Apologies for the intrusion. This poor Daoist will take his leave."
Daoist Wuwei closed the door. The moment he turned around, he took a deep breath.
Even though he had made peace with many things, seeing him again still stirred a restless tide in his heart.
Toward that Mister, Wuwei didn't know whether he should feel gratitude or hatred.
Rendered mute for several years, how could he not hate?
Yet, these years of quiet reflection had indeed allowed him to grasp many truths, so he ought to be grateful.
Wuwei was a cultivator, but at his core, he was still human. No man is perfect, and there would always be things he could not easily let go of.
Staring at the closed door, Ruyi blinked in surprise. "He's not here for revenge?"
Chen Changsheng said, "Priest Wuwei has made peace with many things. He didn't come in simply because he doesn't know how to face us."
Ruyi asked, "Where did Lihua meet that Daoist?"
Lihua replied, "Just in the back alley. He was sitting on the ground resting, and then I thought of inviting him in."
It felt his scent was familiar, so it deliberately took another look.
Ruyi scolded, "Are you foolish, Lihua? He might still see you as an enemy, yet you actually invited him to the door."
Lihua blinked. "But, he didn't seem to hate Lihua. He even said hello to me."
"You're the easiest to fool," Ruyi said.
Lihua shook its head, feeling that Ruyi was being unreasonable.
Whether someone was good or bad, it could actually tell.
Ping'an asked, "Does this Priest Wuwei... have some history with Lihua?"
Mo Yuan was also very curious; this was exactly what he wanted to ask.
Ruyi then recounted the events from many years ago.
After listening, Mo Yuan actually laughed out loud and said, "This priest is truly bold."
It was also his first time hearing of someone daring to speak to Mister Chen like that. Mo Yuan had mingled in the Desolate Sea and seen many cultivators, but someone this reckless was a first.
"No wonder Mister punished him like that," Mo Yuan said. "But if it were me, the grass on his grave would probably be ten feet tall by now."
Chen Changsheng said, "It wasn't anything fatal, and isn't the current Daoist Wuwei doing quite well?"
Mo Yuan nodded and said, "That is true."
Lihua waited to the side, listening to them talk.
Huaixu's Spiritual Energy had told it that this priest was a very kind person, which was why it was happy to invite the Daoist in.
Even though Lihua hadn't forgotten what happened before.
But hadn't everything changed for the better now?
Its thoughts were always this simple.
Chen Changsheng looked up, casting his gaze toward the door.
He paused and said, "This Chen will go out for a bit."
They exchanged glances, none of them saying anything.
Chen Changsheng stood up and walked toward the door.
He pulled open the slightly ajar door.
Stepping into the alley, Chen Changsheng's gaze swept toward the entrance.
Daoist Wuwei, who was leaning against the alley wall, turned his head.
The moment he saw Chen Changsheng, a flash of panic crossed his face.
He was waiting for Chen Changsheng, but he was also hesitating over whether he should keep waiting.
But Daoist Wuwei also hadn't expected Chen Changsheng to actually come out.
He felt a sudden urge to leave, taking a step with the intention of departing.
In his fluster, Daoist Wuwei's first instinct was still to flee.
"Wait a moment, Priest."
Chen Changsheng's voice stopped him.
Daoist Wuwei halted his steps. He calmed his heart, turned around, and cupped his hands, saying, "Wuwei greets Mister Chen."
Chen Changsheng returned the greeting. "Greetings, Priest."
Wuwei straightened up, took a deep breath, and asked, "Does Mister Chen need something?"
Chen Changsheng looked at him and shook his head. "Nothing urgent."
"Then..."
"Have you eaten?" Chen Changsheng asked.
Daoist Wuwei paused and said, "I have."
He said that, but in truth, he was somewhat hungry.
Cultivators abstained from mortal grain, but they still needed to eat eventually; they just did so far less frequently.
"Then let's go eat another meal."
"Mister Chen..."
"Let's go. This Chen is treating you."
Half-reluctant and half-yielding, Daoist Wuwei followed Chen Changsheng out.
Daoist Wuwei looked at Mister Qingshan walking in front of him.
He wondered exactly what kind of person this Mister Chen was.
And that Mao'er, just what kind of cat was it?
Because in his eyes, only Miss Ruyi's reaction was normal.
Daoist Wuwei didn't understand it at all.
A noodle shop was open on the street. The two sat down, and two bowls of Yangchun Noodles were served.
"Please, Priest."
Daoist Wuwei nodded and said, "Many thanks."
The noodles at this shop were nothing special.
But Daoist Wuwei ate them with relish all the same.
Neither of them spoke as they ate. However, Chen Changsheng merely sat there. The noodles rested in front of him, yet he didn't touch his chopsticks.
With a bowl of noodles in his stomach, Daoist Wuwei felt much more comfortable.
Chen Changsheng asked, "Does the Priest hate This Chen?"
Daoist Wuwei set down his chopsticks and answered, "I hate you."
"Now, This Chen is right in front of the Priest."
Daoist Wuwei said, "But I also thank you."
"Your words are very contradictory, Priest."
It was inherently contradictory.
And the meaning of Cultivation was exactly to find answers amidst these contradictions.
Daoist Wuwei looked at Chen Changsheng and asked, "Why invite me for noodles?"
Chen Changsheng said, "Wasn't the Priest hungry earlier?"
Priest Wuwei opened his mouth but didn't know how to answer.
A long moment passed.
He lowered his head and asked a question.
"Is Mister Chen not eating the noodles?"
"I'll eat now."
"Wuwei hasn't eaten his fill. May I eat Mister Chen's bowl as well?"
Chen Changsheng smiled when he heard this and said, "Why not?"
The noodles had clumped together, making them even less appetizing.
Compared to just now, he ate even more messily, shoveling large mouthfuls of noodles into his mouth.
Actually, he was already full after finishing the first bowl.
But even so, Daoist Wuwei forced himself to drink every last drop of soup in the bowl, cleaning it out completely.
Chen Changsheng asked, "Have you eaten your fill, Priest?"
Wuwei didn't speak. Only after a long time did he utter a single sentence.
"I don't hate you anymore."
