More and more people arrived.

Several had to be dragged out.

Occasionally, however, they encountered someone with a truly nasty temper.

"Crash!"

A man in a gray robe stomped a table to splinters.

The violent outburst startled Lord Xu and the deputies standing behind him.

Recovering his wits, Lord Xu snapped, "Who is this madman!"

The deputies immediately surged forward to surround the man.

Sitting by the splintered remains of the table, Chen Changsheng felt a flash of helpless resignation.

The man's gaze was dark, sweeping over the crowd with naked contempt.

"Insolence!"

Lord Xu shouted, stepping forward to intervene.

"Looks like it's you."

The man suddenly raised his hand. Before anyone could blink, a blinding pain struck Lord Xu's cheek, and the sheer force of the slap sent him flying.

Lord Xu hit the ground with a heavy thud, groaning in agony as he struggled to catch his breath.

The surrounding deputies froze in terror; none of them had even seen the man strike.

Trembling, Lord Xu reached a hand out and gritted his teeth. "Get... get him!"

"Beat him!"

At his command, the underworld deputies surged forward to take the intruder down.

"Hmph."

The man scoffed and stomped his foot.

"Boom!"

His aura erupted in an outward shockwave, blasting the charging deputies backward.

"Crash, bang..."

The deputies hit the ground in a scattered mess, crying out in pain.

In just a few breaths, the entire group had been laid out.

Shock gripped Lord Xu as he watched the one-sided defeat.

"You, you..."

He turned his head and spotted Mister Chen standing behind him. "Mister Chen, please, Mister Chen, you must help us!"

The man shifted his gaze to Chen Changsheng and raised an eyebrow. "Looks like you're the real one in charge."

Surveying the dismal scene, Chen Changsheng asked, "May I ask what has upset you so? There is no need to resort to violence before a single word has been spoken."

The man crossed his arms, staring down Chen Changsheng. "This venerable heard someone intends to confer a Human Dao divine position. Immortals and buddhas of the Human Dao are all flocking to Shangjing, so I came to ask: who exactly has the right to bestow titles upon us demons, immortals, and buddhas!?"

"Oh..." Chen Changsheng realized what this was about. "And what does that have to do with you?"

"What does it have to do with me?"

"You are nothing but a bat demon who feasts on humans for nourishment. You will likely be purged by a thunder tribulation sooner or later anyway, so none of this is any of your concern, is it?"

"What did you say?!"

The man erupted in fury.

Chen Changsheng looked at him calmly. "Did This Chen give you permission to speak?"

Suddenly, a crushing wave of divine sense bore down.

In an instant, the bat demon was forced to his knees by the sheer pressure.

"Thump!"

His knees slammed into the ground, shattering the paving stones beneath him.

Horrified, the bat demon frantically surged his demonic qi in a desperate bid to stand.

But he quickly realized the situation was far beyond his expectations.

The crushing weight pressed down not just on his demonic body, but on his divine sense as well, leaving him unable to move an inch.

He gritted his teeth, veins bulging across his forehead, yet he could not lift himself even a fraction. His knees felt as though they were fused to the earth, entirely immobilizing him.

Chen Changsheng merely watched him in silence, not uttering a single word.

"You..."

The bat demon roared, but he could not resist the overwhelming pressure.

After holding out for fifteen minutes, he let out a muffled groan and spat out a mouthful of blood. His entire body collapsed against the ground, unable to move an inch.

"Pant, pant..."

He gasped heavily for breath, his heart burning with indignation. "With your level of Dao Cultivation, why do you interfere in the affairs of the Mortal World!?"

Chen Changsheng simply replied, "This Chen feels like it."

Chen Changsheng glanced back at the splintered table. His brow furrowed slightly, though his expression quickly smoothed out.

In truth, he was quite unhappy about it.

He had just been chatting with Lord Xu about matters concerning Shangjing City.

And then this man had barged in and smashed his table without a word of explanation. Who did such a thing?

The bat demon shouted, "You act so high and mighty, but you only rely on having a few more years of Cultivation under your belt! If we ever meet again, the humiliation this venerable has suffered will be repaid upon you tenfold!"

Chen Changsheng paused.

"What nerve..."

He was genuinely curious as to how this bat demon had managed to survive for so long.

By now, Lord Xu had recovered his wits. Seeing the demon pinned down by Mister Chen, he pointed a trembling finger at the beast. "Mister Chen, this brute's audacity knows no bounds! Death is too good for him!"

The injured deputies slowly pushed themselves up from the ground, having somewhat recovered from the blast.

The bat demon glared at Lord Xu, and a vicious killing intent washed over the official.

Lord Xu stiffened and scrambled backward.

"Mister... Mister Chen."

Chen Changsheng motioned for him to step behind him.

Lord Xu sidled away, not daring to provoke the demon any further.

Chen Changsheng took a step forward. "There is no need for you to be so anxious. This Chen will not need to lift a finger. The thunder tribulation will naturally purge you."

The bat demon let out a loud laugh but said nothing.

As far as he was concerned, the threat of thunder tribulation was nothing but a joke.

He had consumed countless humans in his lifetime, yet retribution had never come for him.

"Do you dare to leave your name?" the bat demon challenged.

It sounded like a schoolyard threat telling someone to wait for a beating after class. It was utterly ridiculous.

Chen Changsheng was about to answer when a fierce wind suddenly kicked up.

"It seems you will not have the chance."

Chen Changsheng glanced back. "Lord Xu, and all you deputies, please step back a hundred paces."

Hearing this, Lord Xu did not hesitate. "Everyone, fall back!" he ordered hurriedly. "Fall back!"

Within a few breaths, the entire group had retreated far away.

A sudden sense of dread washed over the bat demon. From the corner of his eye, he glanced at the sky and saw dark thunderclouds surging together from all directions.

He froze, then began to struggle wildly.

Chen Changsheng said, "Did you truly believe that just because the world is in chaos, the likes of you could run rampant?"

Pinned to the dirt by the divine sense, the bat demon glared at him and scoffed. "Are you still trying to scare me?"

Chen Changsheng shook his head, turned on his heel, and walked away.

Whether the world was truly in chaos or not, Chen Changsheng understood it better than anyone.

It could only be said that this bat demon was terribly unlucky. He could have caused trouble anywhere else, but he chose to do it here in Shangjing City—and right in front of him, no less.

The Human Dao was prospering now, favored by heaven and earth.

Such a vile demon was bound to face heaven's wrath.

The bat demon had thought this was merely a trick, but as the thunder tribulation brewed within the dark clouds overhead, absolute panic set in.

"Impossible! This is impossible!"

On this day, a sudden spectacle appeared over Shangjing City.

In an instant, dark clouds blanketed Shangjing, plunging the capital into twilight. It was as if night had fallen in the blink of an eye, and the deep, rolling thunder struck fear into the hearts of the people.

It was far too sudden...

As countless eyes watched the sky, a bolt of thunder tribulation slashed down.

"Rumble!"

The deafening crack terrified the populace, throwing Shangjing City into a panic.

It happened before the eyes of countless witnesses.

The blinding thunder faded, and an instant later, the storm clouds parted, revealing the sun once more.

The entire event had lasted no more than thirty minutes.

It left the city in absolute shock.
