Long Rong started in surprise.
The incense stick just planted into the cauldron began to burn in the blink of an eye.
It wasn't just smoldering; it was burning!
With such an incense cauldron, the ritual began with the Human Dao Siming offering respects to the heavens. Whoever lit the incense would then have to wait for it to slowly smolder away before receiving the testimony of heaven and earth.
Yet now, the incense the Evil Phoenix had planted into the cauldron was on the verge of burning out in a mere flash.
Zhu Wuneng stared blankly. "How is it burning so fast..."
Lu Qishan saw through it at a glance. "He used his Soul Fire for the heavenly sacrifice. Naturally, it burns fast."
As she spoke, a flash of sword light slashed toward them.
The Evil Phoenix sensed the sword's might drawing ever closer.
"Faster... faster..."
His expression was exceedingly grim. His Soul Fire burned so violently it seemed ready to incinerate him along with it.
"Ah!!!"
The Evil Phoenix let out a hoarse roar.
The three sticks of incense in the cauldron burned completely to ash just before the Sword Qi arrived.
"Boom!"
The sword light swept past. In the blink of an eye, the blade cleaved the pavilion in two.
"Creak..."
The pavilion shifted as the sound of splintering wood rang out.
Seeing this, The Two Snow Spirit Maidens tapped their toes and stood in midair. Long Rong spiraled upward, and several other demons leaped into the air.
Shangguan Ningjing instantly sensed things going south, but then saw the incense cauldron on the pavilion lifted by an unseen force, hovering suspended in the air.
He leaped up and grabbed a corner of the cauldron with one hand, dangling from it.
"Hey!"
The Old Ox was somewhat panicked. "Someone pull me up! Give me a hand!"
Seeing him shout, Shangguan Ningjing yelled back, "Come on up!"
The Old Ox leaped up and caught Shangguan Ningjing's hand.
The Old Ox breathed a sigh of relief. "Thanks, brother."
Shangguan Ningjing wore a heavy expression. "You..."
"Are so heavy!!!"
He hadn't anticipated that the demon beneath him would be this heavy.
Amid the chaos, Mo Yu's gaze constantly searched for the Evil Phoenix.
Until the Little Beggar's voice sounded beside him.
"Stop looking."
"He's already run off."
The Buddhist light faded from the Little Beggar's body. He gazed in a specific direction and murmured, "A soul-escape art..."
Jian Shenghua sheathed his sword. He frowned slightly, unable to tell where it had run off to.
He then closed his eyes to focus and raised his sword.
"Go!"
The Immortal Sword flew off in a certain direction.
Seeing this sword strike, the Little Beggar paused in surprise. "What a fine Divine Ability."
Only then did he realize this person was actually a ghost cultivation practitioner.
Jian Shenghua smiled warmly. "Not as brilliant as your Buddhist methods, little master."
The Little Beggar offered a calm smile. "I am not of the Buddhist Schools."
Jian Shenghua paused at those words. "Not of the Buddhist Schools?"
The Little Beggar pointed to the Lotus Flower mark between his brows.
"They forced it on me."
Hearing this, Jian Shenghua didn't pry any further, merely saying, "A fine stroke of destiny."
The Little Beggar laughed. "Destiny my ass."
He waved his hand and strode forward.
Jian Shenghua and Mo Yu watched the Little Beggar, both feeling this person was truly peculiar.
What kind of destiny could allow someone who neither practiced nor understood Buddhism to wield such Divine Abilities?
"A shame he got away..." Mo Yu remarked.
Jian Shenghua said, "If he got away, he got away. Perhaps..."
"...Mister Chen intentionally let him off."
Their gazes shifted over, and they saw Chen Changsheng sitting by the shore, holding a fishing rod, completely motionless.
He paused, meeting the gazes of the two.
He had naturally heard Jian Shenghua's words.
But clearly, Jian Shenghua had misunderstood.
Chen Changsheng simply hadn't reacted in time; it wasn't that he intentionally let the Evil Phoenix off.
Mo Yu and Jian Shenghua came over.
"Mister Chen."
The two of them greeted respectfully.
"Sit down and rest for a bit," Chen Changsheng said.
Lihua ran over to Mo Yu without stopping.
In a flash, it scrambled up onto Mo Yu's body. "Mo Yu, Mo Yu, Mo Yu, Mo Yu, Mo Yu, Mo Yu..."
"I'm here, I'm here."
Feeling the weight on his head, Mo Yu laughed out loud.
Lihua lay draped over Mo Yu's head and said, "Stinky."
Mo Yu realized, saying, "I was chasing that Evil Phoenix all the way here, so I forgot to clean up."
"Lihua will blow on it for you."
"Alright."
Lihua huffed and puffed, using a paw to smooth out Mo Yu's hair at the same time.
Lihua suddenly remembered, exclaiming, "Ah! I forgot to introduce you!"
"This is Mo Yuan, a friend Lihua just made."
Mo Yu looked over, then paused, cupping his hands. "Greetings, True Dragon."
Jian Shenghua also immediately cupped his hands in salute.
Mo Yuan smiled genially and nodded. "You two are too polite."
Lihua looked back over at Ruyi and said, "This is Ruyi. She's Lihua's... Lihua's..."
"Um..."
"Family."
Lihua said.
Hearing this, Ruyi blanked for a moment; it was clearly unexpected.
Mo Yu was also slightly stunned by these words.
Ruyi recovered first and extended a hand. "I've heard Lihua talk about you for a long time. We finally meet."
Mo Yu extended his hand to return the gesture and said, "Lihua is mischievous. Thank you for looking after it, miss."
Ruyi smiled. "Most of the time, it's the one looking after me."
Lihua grew a little unhappy at Mo Yu's words and said, "Lihua isn't mischievous. Lihua is very well-behaved."
Hearing this, Mo Yu laughed. "Yes, Lihua is very well-behaved."
He collected his thoughts and looked toward the other person.
"And this is..."
"Lihua knows." Lihua handled the introductions again. "This is Ping'an. Ruyi is his older sister, and he's the Metropolitan Governor, even though Lihua still doesn't know what a Metropolitan Governor is..."
Ping'an smiled. "Just a mid-level official."
He cupped his hands toward Mo Yu and said, "Ping'an greets the qilin Divine Beast."
Mo Yu paused upon hearing this, then smiled. "You're too polite. However, I'm no Divine Beast, just a broken remnant of a body."
Reunions were always lively.
Over at the Center of the Lake, however, the atmosphere was somewhat tense.
Long Rong swept her gaze over the few people left before her.
A beggar, a martial artist, Zhu Wuneng, Tu Hu, Lu Qishan, The Two Snow Spirit Maidens, and an ox demon.
But she couldn't be bothered with them.
Stepping straight forward with three sticks of incense, she prepared to light them.
Lu Qishan spoke up. "Could the Dragon Immortal wait a moment?"
Long Rong furrowed her brow and said, "Why should you interfere?"
Lu Qishan said, "Of the nine Investiture Scroll titles, one is already missing. The few of us present are just enough to make up the numbers, but there is still someone who hasn't arrived yet."
But Long Rong had no desire to wait any longer, stubbornly pressing forward to light the incense.
Lu Qishan grabbed her hand and said, "I suggest you wait!"
Murderous intent surfaced in her gaze.
Long Rong paused, and anger immediately welled up in her heart. "This is a mortal realm matter! What right do outsiders like you have to interfere?"
With that, she broke free from Lu Qishan's hand.
As Lu Qishan raised her hand, her Demonic Power transformed into a long spear and thrust forward.
A clash erupted instantly.
