Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 706: I'll Admit You're Good

The figure in the green shirt drifted across the roof tiles of Qingshan City.

Under the moonlight, his shadow swept through the alleys below.

Down in one of those alleys, a man standing with his foot planted on a corpse drew his long saber and glanced up, noticing the figure darting past.

Seeing this, the Saber Wielder leaped, kicking off the alley walls to vault onto the roof.

Looking ahead, he saw the green-shirted figure bounding nimbly from building to building.

"What Lightness Art!"

The Saber Wielder marveled, immediately taking off in pursuit.

He, however, did not possess such exceptional Lightness Art.

He plunged his saber into the roof tiles and hauled back forcefully, using the leverage to launch himself forward. He could only give chase using this brutal method, but barbaric as it was, it proved highly effective.

The rooftops he crossed, however, were left devastated, their tiles shattered beyond recognition.

Hearing the commotion behind him, Chen Changsheng stopped and looked back.

The figure was rushing in his direction, gripping a gleaming long saber. A heavy, murderous aura hung over the man.

The Saber Wielder came to a halt, standing on a roof across from Chen Changsheng.

"Can I help you?" Chen Changsheng asked.

The Saber Wielder stared at him, saber intent flashing in his eyes. "Do you know how to use a saber?"

Chen Changsheng shook his head. "Never learned."

The Saber Wielder paused, seemingly finding this a pity.

"Did you chase me down to compare saber skills?" Chen Changsheng asked.

The Saber Wielder raised his chin and nodded. "Yes."

Chen Changsheng chuckled. "Swords have their fanatics, and sabers have theirs. Are all of you this stubborn?"

The Saber Wielder grinned. "I wouldn't call myself a fanatic. I just like chopping things."

"You speak rather bluntly," Chen Changsheng said with a smile.

"Do I?" The Saber Wielder didn't seem to care. "If you haven't learned the saber, what do you know?"

"I studied the sword for a few days, but I don't really know martial arts," Chen Changsheng said.

The Saber Wielder blinked. "You don't really know martial arts?"

He looked Chen Changsheng up and down. "Are you messing with me? You've cultivated Lightness Art like that, and you tell me you don't know martial arts?"

Chen Changsheng joked, "I don't know a thing about fighting, but I'm absolutely first-rate at running away."

The Saber Wielder was momentarily stunned before bursting into laughter.

"Hahaha! Good, good!"

The Saber Wielder pointed his blade at him. "I think you're pretty interesting. We won't compare sabers today. I just want to see exactly how incredible this Lightness Art of yours is, and whether I can catch you!"

Looking at this jianghu Saber Wielder, Chen Changsheng also found the man quite amusing.

So he replied, "Don't fly into a rage if you can't catch me."

"Hey, what kind of talk is that!" the Saber Wielder scoffed. "As if I'd be that petty."

Chen Changsheng smiled. "Then I'll be on my way!"

With a light tap of his toe, his figure remained as weightless as ever, soaring off as if taking flight. In the blink of an eye, he had bounded over two houses.

"Good!"

The Saber Wielder shouted, immediately giving chase.

His eyes locked onto the green-shirted figure ahead, and he used his long saber to smash through the rooftops in pursuit.

But Chen Changsheng was now countless times faster than before. In a single breath, he crossed three more roofs.

The Saber Wielder was dumbfounded by the sight. "Mother of..."

Sprinting beneath the moonlight, that figure looked just like an Immortal.

The Saber Wielder abruptly snapped out of his daze. "Who cares if he's an Immortal! If I catch him, then I'll be the Immortal!"

Saying so, he pushed himself to move faster, clinging tightly to the chase.

Several quarter-hours passed.

Chen Changsheng slowed down slightly. He glanced back, but the Saber Wielder was nowhere to be seen.

Before him stood the city wall.

Chen Changsheng stopped to wait for a moment.

A moment later, the Saber Wielder's figure reappeared.

Chen Changsheng pointed beyond the city wall, gesturing to him.

Then he vaulted into the air, clearing the wall entirely.

The Saber Wielder's eyes widened at the sight.

"Holy mother..."

What kind of person could jump that high?!

This was simply far too ridiculous.

Even amid his shock, the Saber Wielder didn't forget that he was lagging far behind.

Unwilling to be outdone, he used his saber and sheer brute force to scramble up the city wall.

It took him a considerable amount of time to get over.

Once he was over, he saw the figure in the green shirt waiting for him on the gate tower.

Chen Changsheng offered a slight smile. "Still chasing?"

The Saber Wielder wiped away his sweat, panting heavily. "What kind of demon are you?"

"I told you," Chen Changsheng said. "First-rate at running away."

The Saber Wielder gasped for air and held out a hand. "You're good."

"So This Chen wins," Chen Changsheng laughed.

The Saber Wielder shook his head. "We aren't done talking. Who said I wasn't going to chase you anymore? What happens if I catch up to you?"

Chen Changsheng thought about it and said, "Then I'll admit you're good."

The Saber Wielder was taken aback.

"Huh?"

"Is that not enough?" Chen Changsheng asked.

The Saber Wielder burst out laughing. "It is! Of course it is!"

Looking at him, Chen Changsheng shook his head. "But the way This Chen sees it, there's no way you'll catch me."

"Just you watch."

"Alright, alright."

Chen Changsheng gave a helpless smile. "Then come."

With that, he leaped from the gate tower, flying off into the distance.

The Saber Wielder jumped down right after him.

Dragging his saber against the wall to slow his descent, he made his way down.

In just that short amount of time, a massive gap had opened up between them.

But the Saber Wielder didn't give up, relying entirely on his own two legs to pursue.

He was a fanatic, but right now, it felt more like he was risking his life for a completely meaningless wager. This was a battle between men.

Chen Changsheng moved through the mountain forests, heading all the way toward the Northwest.

Even the falling leaves became stepping stones for him. Under the cover of night, he moved astonishingly fast.

The Saber Wielder was a brash man. Whatever blocked his path, he cleaved through with a single strike, chopping down quite a few trees along the way.

The two traveled one after the other. It wasn't long before Chen Changsheng exited the forest, leaving the Saber Wielder still struggling to catch up through the trees.

Rustling noises echoed from the woods as countless birds were startled into the air.

The wind and sand grew heavier in the night. Chen Changsheng raised a hand, brushing the grit away as he continued his journey in the dark.

The further he went into the Northwestern Lands, the worse the sandstorms became. Vegetation grew sparse, and signs of human life became increasingly rare.

In this region, most people huddled together inside the cities. Few lived outside the walls, for the world was far too chaotic; staying out in the open was no different from gambling with one's life.

In the blink of an eye, dawn broke.

Stepping across the yellow sand, Chen Changsheng looked up to see a city standing tall before him.

Out on the dunes, traveling merchant caravans could be seen leading their camels.

The wind and sand brushed against his face, carrying a suffocating wave of heat.

Chen Changsheng let out a breath. Feeling his mouth grow dry, he decided to head into the city and order a jug of wine.

He paused and glanced back.

The Saber Wielder was long gone, without a trace to be found.

'He shouldn't be chasing me anymore,' Chen Changsheng thought, before walking toward the city.
