Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 775: Something is Wrong

Prince Jin presided over the coastal regions. After annexing Prince Xiao's territory, his strength was not to be underestimated. In the eyes of the other princes, he was a rival they could hardly match.

Chen Changsheng listened and said, "However, the King of Wei's current territory should be relatively safe."

Weidi sat surrounded by the other princes and the Imperial Court.

In the midst of this chaos, Weidi lay right at the center. Should the other princes or the Imperial Court decide to make a move, they would never target the King of Wei first. No one could guarantee that another faction wouldn't jump out to claim a share, or let the fisherman profit from the quarrel.

Upon hearing this, Prince Wei said, "That might be true in theory, but in reality, this is the most restless place of all. The other princes might have room to catch their breath, but if even the slightest misstep occurs in Weidi, the others will seize the chance to stir up trouble."

Ruling this land would lead to only one of two outcomes.

He would either be annexed by the other princes or the Imperial Court, or he would achieve ultimate glory.

Not a single prince would tolerate the continued existence of Weidi.

Chen Changsheng said, "It seems Prince Wei is under a great deal of pressure as well."

Chen Changsheng fell deep into thought.

Could this King of Wei truly have no connection to Yan Ruchu?

Was he not part of Yan Ruchu's plans?

Chen Changsheng found it rather strange. How could Yan Ruchu have avoided placing a pawn in a place like Qingshan City? It was genuinely bizarre.

He studied the King of Wei's expression, but couldn't spot anything amiss.

Still, in Chen Changsheng's eyes, this Prince Wei was absolutely no simpleton. Perhaps the earlier impression of a foolish, messing-around Prince Wei had stuck with Chen Changsheng, making it difficult for him to tell whether the King of Wei's words were true or false.

Perhaps playing the fool was exactly how the King of Wei managed to conceal so much.

Chen Changsheng refused to believe that a prince willing to humble himself and kneel would so willingly consider himself inferior to the rest.

As they spoke, Chen Changsheng finished his noodles.

He wiped his mouth and said, "Send someone over later to take that painting back."

Prince Wei paused upon hearing this. "Are you not going to ask anything else?"

Chen Changsheng's gaze fell upon him, and he replied, "Even if I did, This Chen might not get any real answers."

Prince Wei blinked. "What do you mean by that?"

"Nothing."

Chen Changsheng smiled. He handed the old man the money for the noodles and departed.

Prince Wei remained seated at the noodle stall, lost in thought for a moment.

Finally, he shook his head, rose to his feet, and took his leave.

...

Back in the small courtyard.

Chen Changsheng retrieved three Copper Coins from his robes. He gave them a light shake in his palm and tossed them out.

The Copper Coins wobbled before finally coming to a rest.

The resulting hexagram was chaotic.

He couldn't make any sense of it. It was as if the results of the divination had absolutely nothing to do with what Chen Changsheng wanted to ask.

Frowning, Chen Changsheng looked up at the sky.

This was truly bizarre.

It felt as if heaven and earth were intentionally obscuring these matters.

Chen Changsheng vaguely felt that Yan Ruchu's death wasn't as simple as sacrificing his Lifespan, much like Zhao Zhen back then...

Yet it seemed...

Not a single trace had been left behind.

Chen Changsheng shook his head. Having only just returned to the small courtyard, he turned right back around and headed out.

He made his way outside the city, sought out a jianghu traveler, and asked a few questions.

"Brother, might you know the way to the Southern Yan Sect?"

"The Southern Yan Sect?"

The jianghu traveler paused. "You mean Nanyan Mountain, right?"

"If the mountain and the sect share the same name, then that should be it."

"Are you heading there to pay your respects and seek martial arts?"

"Pay my respects and seek martial arts?"

The jianghu traveler nodded. "The experts on Nanyan Mountain have opened their mountain to take in disciples and pass on their martial arts. A lot of people have gone there recently."

Chen Changsheng pondered this for a moment before asking, "Are you heading to Nanyan Mountain, brother?"

The man shook his head with a helpless smile. "I couldn't enter the mountain. I'm on my way back."

Upon hearing this, Chen Changsheng consoled him, "The carriage will find a way once it reaches the mountain. Perhaps there will be other strokes of fortune."

"Perhaps." The man smiled, then pointed down the road. "Just follow this path straight ahead. Once you reach Zhupeng City, head east..."

Chen Changsheng committed this to memory, then cupped his hands and said, "Many thanks, brother!"

"Don't mention it."

The man waved his hand and said, "Meeting makes us friends. It's fate, after all."

The two didn't chat for much longer before parting ways.

Chen Changsheng headed off in the opposite direction. He wanted to go take a look at that Nanyan Mountain.

Perhaps he could find a few answers there.

In truth, however, it was mostly out of curiosity to see just how massive a storm a deceased emperor could stir up.

Chen Changsheng quickened his pace. Condensing the ground into inches, his figure flickered in and out of sight along the official road.

In less than an hour, he found Nanyan Mountain right where the traveler had directed him.

Once he arrived, it was impossible to miss.

Because the place was incredibly bustling!

Jianghu wanderers came and went. Some masked their faces, while others wore conical straw hats. Most kept weapons hidden at their waists or tucked in their robes, and the surrounding stalls sold all sorts of rare oddities.

It was as if a market had formed right in the middle of the mountain forest.

A market belonging exclusively to the people of the jianghu.

"So many people..."

Chen Changsheng was somewhat surprised himself.

He peered inward, his gaze landing on a towering mountain peak that pierced the clouds right before his eyes.

He frowned, finding it a bit odd.

The scale of this mountain sect was quite substantial.

Back when Zhao Zhen was around, he had intentionally or unintentionally chipped away at the strength of the jianghu. By all logic, a sect of this size shouldn't exist.

But on second thought, it made sense to him.

This Southern Yan Sect was likely a special exception to begin with.

Chen Changsheng took a leisurely stroll through the market at the foot of the mountain before following the crowd up the mountain path.

The stream of people coming and going was endless.

In truth, however, most of them were just here to watch the spectacle.

Those who delighted in the jianghu rarely had a fixed home. To them, wherever the excitement was, that was where they would be.

Of the people before his eyes, likely only two or three out of ten were genuinely here to study martial arts, though even that was quite a high number.

Chen Changsheng walked slowly up the mountain.

Suddenly, he paused and shifted his gaze to the side.

He spotted a young noble dressed in lavish brocade clothes looking toward him.

Their eyes met, and both of them momentarily froze.

The young noble before him was actually a woman in disguise. Chen Changsheng only needed a single glance to see through her identity.

It was someone familiar.

Though in truth, they had only met once before.

The young noble walked over and cupped his hands. "Are you heading up the mountain to study martial arts as well, brother?"

Chen Changsheng paused. It seemed she had no intention of revealing her identity.

Playing along with her, he answered, "Just here for the spectacle."

"What a coincidence." The young noble smiled. "I am Qin Chuan. Like you, brother, I am also just here for the spectacle. Why don't we travel together?"

Chen Changsheng listened and said, "That sounds like a fine idea."
