"Murder!!"
A shrill voice rang out.
The surrounding crowd immediately fell into chaos.
The once-orderly street descended into disarray as people scattered at the sudden cry.
Some looked bewildered, others terrified, while some simply screamed.
A cacophony of voices blurred together.
People shoved against one another, fleeing blindly. Most had no idea what was actually happening or where the incident had occurred; they just heard the shout, saw everyone pushing outward, and ran in panic.
"What's going on?"
Someone along the side of the street frowned and asked.
But with everyone rushing toward them, their men couldn't push through at all.
They tried to dive into the mob, only to be forced back by the sheer tide of bodies, unable to take a single step forward.
The commoners on the street, faces tight with fear, all streamed outward.
Unease instantly spread like wildfire through the crowd.
"Murder, murder..."
Yet from beginning to end, not a single person had seen a dead body, nor had anyone witnessed an attack.
From just a single panicked shout, the entire Temple Fair was thrown into turmoil.
"Clatter..."
A figure bounded up a wall and landed on a rooftop.
He sprinted across the roof tiles, scanning the area below.
His gaze swept over the crowd, trying to pinpoint the source of the incident.
But the scene was a chaotic mess. No matter how he searched the mob, he couldn't spot anything out of the ordinary.
A moment later, he finally reached the epicenter where the crowd had first dispersed.
He leaped down, landing in the middle of the street.
Looking around, he spotted something resembling bloodstains on the ground.
Soon after, several others rushed over and gathered around him.
He reached out, smeared some of the 'blood' from the ground, and brought his fingers to his nose to sniff.
"Hm?"
Noticing something odd, he popped the smear of crimson into his mouth.
After spitting it out, he declared, "It's berry juice!"
Which meant no one had been killed at all. The whole thing was a deliberate act orchestrated to throw the Temple Fair into chaos.
"Damn it!"
The man stood up, his expression grim. "You few, hurry back to the Prince's Manor! The rest, come with me! Quickly!"
The group immediately sprang into action.
Under the cover of night, dozens of these hidden guards scattered into the various streets of Qingshan City, while a smaller group hurried toward Prince Wei's Manor.
Chen Changsheng and Yunxiang sat on the side of the street, watching the people in front of them frantically flee the Temple Fair.
Yunxiang sighed and said, "I'm afraid this Temple Fair is ruined..."
Chen Changsheng replied, "It was bound to happen."
Yunxiang nodded; she shared the Mister's thoughts.
...
Lihua and Ruyi were mixed in the crowd.
"What happened?"
Ruyi was still a bit dazed. Everything was perfectly fine just a moment ago; how did everyone suddenly start running away in the blink of an eye?
Lihua also looked bewildered, saying, "I don't know..."
Ruyi had been caught up in the panic too, taking Lihua with her as she followed the fleeing crowd.
Both she and Lihua were clueless.
But seeing so many people rushing away, they instinctively assumed something terrible had happened.
A short while later, the girl and the cat ran out of the Temple Fair and arrived at an empty clearing.
Ruyi caught her breath and looked back.
In just the blink of an eye, the Temple Fair had become completely deserted. Aside from a few stragglers at the very back, everyone was gone. Even the street vendors had abandoned their stalls.
Only then did Ruyi suddenly realize.
"Something's not right..."
Ruyi frowned. This had all happened far too suddenly.
It shouldn't be like this.
Lihua blinked and asked, "Ruyi, Ruyi, are we still buying steamed buns? Lihua is hungry."
Ruyi reached out and lightly rapped its head. "No more steamed buns. We're going home first."
Lihua grumbled in grievance, "But Lihua is hungry."
Just as it spoke, Lihua suddenly caught the scent of something fragrant wafting over.
At least, to it, it was a fragrant scent.
"Mhm..."
Lihua looked over, only to see a figure running out of the Temple Fair.
It was a little girl wearing a ruqun, clutching a jug of wine in her arms.
The little girl was running out with a blank look on her face, having no idea what was going on. Her small face was flushed red, and she reeked of alcohol.
"Ruyi, Ruyi!"
Lihua shook Ruyi and said, "That fish! That fish!"
Ruyi paused and followed Lihua's gaze.
"Hongjin?"
Taken aback, Ruyi immediately stepped forward and blocked Yu Hongjin's path.
"Eh?"
The running Yu Hongjin suddenly bumped into something.
She froze for a moment and looked up.
Yu Hongjin blanked again before finally recognizing her.
"You're, you're..."
Yu Hongjin couldn't think straight for a second and blurted, "Ah, you're Ping'an!"
Ruyi sighed helplessly. "I'm Ruyi."
"Oh, oh, why are you..."
"Let's go over there to talk."
Ruyi led Yu Hongjin to the side.
Yu Hongjin glanced around and suddenly sensed a hostile aura.
"Hm?"
Yu Hongjin suddenly stopped in her tracks, sobering up in an instant.
She looked over and saw a tabby cat sitting by the side of the road, licking its paw. The moment it saw her, their eyes locked.
Yu Hongjin jolted in fright.
"It's you, you stinky cat!!"
Lihua looked at her and retorted, "Nonsense, you're the stinky one!"
"Stinky cat!"
"Stinky fish!"
Yu Hongjin gnashed her teeth, looking as though she hated the cat to her very bones. "I'm not afraid of you anymore!"
Lihua blinked. "Were you afraid of me before?"
Yu Hongjin faltered at that, then snapped, "I wasn't afraid of you before, either!"
Ruyi watched the two of them start bickering the moment they met.
She gave each of them a knock on the head.
"No fighting!"
Yu Hongjin and Lihua both rubbed their heads.
Yu Hongjin shot Lihua a glare, snorted softly, and turned her head away.
Ruyi crouched down and asked, "Hongjin, do you know what happened inside?"
Yu Hongjin answered, "They said someone was killed."
"Did you see it?"
"No, I didn't."
Ruyi paused at that. This seemed to confirm her suspicions.
It was likely that someone had deliberately caused this disturbance.
But in reality, no one had died at all.
Realizing that the situation wasn't simple, Ruyi said, "Let's go back first."
She had vaguely spotted quite a few highly skilled martial artists rushing off in different directions, which was definitely a bad sign.
It was best not to get involved.
Yu Hongjin suddenly stopped and said, "Sister Yun is still inside. She hasn't come out yet!"
Ruyi was taken aback. "What?"
Yu Hongjin suddenly remembered something and added, "But she should be fine. Mister Chen is there too."
Hearing this, Ruyi was stunned again.
She stared blankly and asked, "Who?"
"Mister Chen."
Lihua perked up instantly upon hearing those words. "Chen the Good Man?"
Yu Hongjin nodded.
Ruyi turned her gaze back toward the streets of the Temple Fair.
"Uncle Chen is back..."
