During the meal, only Song Bao was absent-minded.
Noticing this, Mother Song asked if she was feeling unwell, but Song Bao simply shook her head and insisted she was fine.
Her gaze occasionally lingered on the Mister, and she couldn't help but recall the scenes she had witnessed earlier.
Only now did she finally understand just what kind of unfathomable beings she had unwittingly accepted as guests.
An Immortal, a drinking child, a talking cat...
All of it...
Song Bao couldn't quite process it all at once.
...
Lihua calmed down significantly after being brought upstairs by Yunxiang.
Yu Hongjin pursed her lips. "What's this, it just fell asleep..."
Yunxiang didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Let it sleep. Hong Jin, tell me exactly what happened first."
"It was like this."
Yu Hongjin then recounted everything she had seen, including the friend Lihua mentioned and the phantom image that had appeared later.
"A phantom image?"
Yunxiang paused, recalling certain details from Zhu Qi's memories.
Rather than a simple phantom, it was more likely a Dharma Manifestation.
But how could Lihua possess a Dharma Manifestation?
Yunxiang cast a glance at the soundly sleeping cat, suddenly realizing that she knew absolutely nothing about its past.
Mister had brought Lihua along. From what he had implied, it came from the Cultivation World.
Years ago, Yunxiang had heard Lihua mention the name Mo Yu, but she had never actually met this person.
Once the meal was finished and the weather had cleared up, Father Song personally escorted Physician Lin back. Before they left, he gave him some dried fruits as a token of gratitude.
Chen Changsheng then headed upstairs.
Seeing Lihua sleeping soundly, he put his worries to rest.
"Lihua's fortune is always so muddled," Chen Changsheng muttered. "It probably doesn't even know what happened itself."
Yunxiang paused before asking, "I heard from Hong Jin that when Lihua was up in the attic earlier, a phantom image identical to it suddenly appeared behind its back."
Chen Changsheng paused slightly upon hearing this. "That happened?"
Yu Hongjin nodded. "It was a very clear phantom, looking exactly like Lihua. But... it felt different, like they weren't the same person—no, not the same cat."
Chen Changsheng fell into thought.
Yunxiang asked, "Does Mister know of Lihua's origins?"
Chen Changsheng snapped back to reality; this served as a reminder.
"That was perhaps the former Lihua."
"The former?" Yunxiang asked.
Chen Changsheng nodded and proceeded to explain Lihua's origins to her.
Back when he first met Lihua in Qingyuan, he had learned a few details from Mo Yu.
Mo Yu and Lihua had once been subjugated by the Demon-Summoning Divine Lord to work for him. According to Mo Yu, Lihua used to be a Great Demon, but being suppressed by the spirit cage had caused its Demonic Power to dissipate and erased many of its early memories.
Chen Changsheng shook his head. "This Chen doesn't know much about Lihua's past identity either. That was all Mo Yu shared back then."
Yunxiang nodded. "If the opportunity arises, Mister should try to learn more. That phantom—the former Lihua—possessed the ability to snatch heavenly momentum from the hands of the Water God. It clearly wasn't an ordinary demon."
Chen Changsheng committed her words to memory.
Seeing his reaction, Yunxiang realized Mister Chen still wasn't taking the matter seriously enough. "Mister truly needs to be mindful of this," she urged.
Chen Changsheng refocused and asked, "Is Miss Yun worried about something?"
Yunxiang replied, "Mister is sometimes too quick to trust a one-sided story. Lihua forgetting its past memories is strange enough on its own. Not to mention that Moyu Qilin..."
Yunxiang paused, ultimately only saying, "Regardless, it would be best for Mister to exercise a bit more caution."
Chen Changsheng fell into thought after hearing this.
Yunxiang said, "Please forgive Yunxiang's impertinence, Mister."
Chen Changsheng snapped out of his thoughts. "What are you saying? This Chen feels you make a very good point; certain matters indeed require careful thought."
In truth, he had noticed some inconsistencies in the past, but after traveling with Lihua for a while, he had simply cast those doubts aside.
Chen Changsheng's biggest flaw was how easily he trusted others.
Miss Yun knew this better than anyone.
Mister rarely thought ill of others. Because of this, many people might take advantage of it, which worried Yunxiang immensely.
Where there was good in the world, there was bound to be evil.
One always had to look at both sides of things.
By the time Lihua woke up, it was already night.
As soon as it woke up, Lihua began clamoring about being hungry and demanding food.
"I'll go get it, I'll go get it!" Yu Hongjin sprinted off faster than anyone else.
She was likely terrified that if Lihua starved to death, she'd lose her bickering companion.
Yu Hongjin asked the Song couple for some food.
Lihua scarfed down a pile of food until its belly bulged round. Only then did it finally let out a breath, sprawling spread-eagle on the chair.
"So full, so full~"
Lihua murmured in satisfaction and chuckled.
"Stupid cat," Yu Hongjin muttered. "You won't even thank your Grandpa Yu for finding you food."
Lihua paused, then said, "Thank you."
Hearing this, Yu Hongjin's expression immediately shifted. She waved her hands frantically, looking utterly disgusted.
Lihua couldn't quite understand why she was acting like this.
But it didn't really care; being full was all that mattered.
.
.
The following days were much more peaceful.
Chen Changsheng would occasionally take them out for a stroll through the streets. Yingshan District was brimming with rustic warmth; once the locals accepted you, they treated you like a good friend. When you bought things normally, the vendors would often toss in a little extra as a gift.
Such rural places were steeped in the liveliness of everyday life.
Song Bao and Yu Hongjin were chatting idly in the inn.
"There are even more amazing things than that!"
Yu Hongjin stood on a long bench and said, "I've even seen ships that were incredibly tall—like, a dozen of me put together! At the time, I snuck aboard to steal some wine and almost got caught. That wine was seriously delicious! Oh, and also..."
Listening to her vivid storytelling, Song Bao couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Over the past two days, she had gotten to know Yu Hongjin pretty well. The child had little interest in anything else, and whenever they chatted, the topic would inevitably drift toward wine. It was obvious she genuinely loved to drink.
"How much longer are you guys staying here?" Song Bao suddenly asked.
Yu Hongjin thought for a moment before replying, "Probably only a couple more days. I heard Mister Chen say we were staying here to watch..."
She paused abruptly and said no more.
"Watch what?" Song Bao asked.
Yu Hongjin shook her head repeatedly. "I can't tell you. You already know too much."
Hearing this, Song Bao paused, her hand trembling slightly.
What did that mean?
That gave her quite a fright.
Yu Hongjin blinked. "Anyway, I can't let you know."
"Why?"
"I just can't. Sister Yun won't let me tell anyone, and, um, Mister Chen also forbade us from speaking nonsense."
"Oh..."
Yu Hongjin didn't chat with Song Bao any longer, finding an excuse to run off.
Song Bao, however, was immensely curious about the whole thing.
She wandered around until she found Lihua sprawled out in the attic, sunbathing.
"Lihua, Lihua..."
Song Bao called out softly.
Over the past two days, she had learned Lihua's name and occasionally fed it food, establishing a good relationship between them.
Lihua, its eyes heavy with sleep, yawned, then looked at Song Bao and blinked. "Elder Sister Song, do you have more good food?"
Song Bao shook her head. "Elder Sister Song came to ask you something. Hong Jin wouldn't tell me, so I had to come ask you."
"What is it?"
Song Bao immediately asked her question point-blank.
Upon hearing it, Lihua shook its head. "Chen the Good Man won't let Lihua tell anyone else."
"But I'm not just anyone," Song Bao said. "I'm your Elder Sister Song."
Lihua glanced at Song Bao and said, "Elder Sister Song doesn't know how to coax out secrets. You didn't even bring any good food—how do you expect to trick a kid?"
Song Bao didn't know whether to laugh or cry at these words.
"Tell Elder Sister Song, and I'll go get you some good food right after."
Lihua shook its head. "You have to bring the food first."
Song Bao smacked her lips and said, "Fine, fine, fine."
She hurried off to fetch some dried fruits and similar snacks, knowing they were Lihua's favorites.
Lihua smacked its lips and ate a huge mouthful.
Song Bao asked, "Can you tell me now?"
Lihua blinked and said, "When did Lihua ever say I would tell Elder Sister Song?"
Song Bao's eyes widened in disbelief. "You ate my dried fruit!"
"Lihua never said I was going to tell." Lihua's gaze was sincere as it tilted its head and added, "Chen the Good Man said I can't tell anyone."
"Bad Lihua!"
Song Bao said, putting her hands on her hips. "I'm not giving you any more dried fruit from now on."
Lihua's eyes instantly widened. It opened its mouth, looking extremely reluctant.
Dried fruit...
Even if it wasn't as tasty as dried fish.
But...
But...
Lihua looked as if it were facing a formidable foe, suddenly hesitating.
"I'm confiscating the rest of this dried fruit too!"
"No!"
Lihua immediately shielded the dried fruit.
It looked at Song Bao with a pitiful expression and said, "I can't say, I really can't..."
Song Bao crossed her arms and turned her head away, staying silent as if she was sulking.
Lihua smacked its lips and said, "Elder Sister Song being angry looks exactly like Ruyi. But you aren't as scary as Ruyi, so you can't scare Lihua."
Hearing this, Song Bao didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She asked, "Are you going to tell your Elder Sister Song or not?"
Lihua blinked, thought for a moment, and said, "Unless there's dried fish."
Song Bao paused, then pursed her lips. "Bad Lihua. Auntie Yun said you were so innocent. It really is a case of knowing a cat's face but not its heart."
Lihua stared blankly and said, "Hong Jin taught me."
Song Bao smiled helplessly upon hearing this.
She had truly been defeated by this cat.
"Tell me, and I'll go buy you some dried fish in a moment."
"Then Elder Sister Song can't tell anyone else..."
"Mhm, mhm. I won't tell, I won't tell."
