Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 843: Something Strange

Yunxiang fell into thought. As she pondered, a flash of cyan light flickered in her eyes, and she looked toward Yu Hongjin's Dantian.

Just as Yu Hongjin had said, three fish were swimming in circles within her Dantian.

Two black, one white.

In reality, however, it looked more like the white fish was chasing the two black ones, which appeared to be fleeing for their lives.

This caused Yunxiang no small amount of worry.

She furrowed her brow slightly. With yin and yang out of balance like this, she feared something might go wrong.

It was akin to entering fire and falling into demons. Ultimately, it meant the energies had failed to harmonize, causing both sides to collapse or one side to dominate. There shouldn't be a victor or a loser here; there should only be balance.

This was extremely dangerous.

"Misfortune..."

She looked outside the horse carriage, where Mister Chen was still discussing matters with Mo Yuan.

It seemed that after Yu Hongjin walked away, Chen Changsheng and Mo Yuan's expressions had grown somewhat heavier.

Yunxiang could see the problem clearly, and so could Mo Yuan and Chen Changsheng.

They simply couldn't afford to startle Yu Hongjin right now. Her instinctive reaction might affect the situation in unforeseen ways, so they had refrained from bringing it up.

Mo Yuan said, "In my early years, I encountered many water demons in the Desolate Sea who were skilled in the Dao of qi destiny. Perhaps we could ask them."

Chen Changsheng said, "Yu Hongjin's situation is rather special. Setting aside how she managed to accumulate so much good fortune in the first place, she seems to possess an innate attraction to the qi destiny of this mortal world. This applies to misfortune and good fortune alike. It is truly a bizarre matter."

Mo Yuan asked, "Mister, can you temporarily stabilize her qi destiny? If the black fish are no match, you could weaken the white fish."

Chen Changsheng shook his head. "From the looks of it, that isn't possible. If they could be divided, the black fish wouldn't have split into one large and one small."

Mo Yuan fell deep into thought.

Then he heard Chen Changsheng say, "Beicang doesn't seem far from Tianji Mountain. If you have no other pressing matters, you might as well make a trip to Tianji Mountain for This Chen. Tianji Mountain holds numerous records regarding Arts and Techniques and Divine Abilities; you might be able to find the cause there."

Mo Yuan paused for a moment before saying, "I will go at once."

Chen Changsheng nodded. "This matter brooks no delay. This Chen is currently... somewhat inconvenienced. I must trouble you."

"You are being too polite, Mister."

Mo Yuan did not delay and set off immediately.

Without the hindrance of misfortune, his spellcasting had become much smoother. He transformed into his True Dragon form and soared straight into the highest heavens, heading off to seek Tianji Mountain.

Chen Changsheng returned to the horse carriage with a solemn expression.

Yunxiang exchanged a few quiet words with Chen Changsheng.

Chen Changsheng nodded. "This Chen understands. Mo Yuan has already gone to Tianji Mountain to find a solution. For the next couple of days, do not let Hongjin run around carelessly, lest something suddenly go wrong."

Yunxiang nodded. "I will keep a close eye on her."

Yu Hongjin poked her head out from inside the carriage and asked, "What are you two whispering about?"

Yunxiang tapped her forehead. "You really are curious about everything."

Yu Hongjin rubbed her head. "Curiosity killed the cat; it won't kill a fish."

The sleeping Lihua suddenly woke up.

It looked at Yu Hongjin, its face full of question marks.

"How did you get so sharp-tongued?" Yunxiang smiled helplessly.

Yu Hongjin raised her head, looking quite pleased with herself.

Only Lihua smacked its lips, twitched its whiskers, and then went back to sleep.

The weather had grown a bit colder, making it rather sleepy.

After crossing the Sheng River, the road became much smoother.

Notably, the mountains had also grown more numerous.

They had originally expected to encounter many mountain bandits, but in truth, their journey so far had been particularly peaceful. There were no bandits in the mountains; there were even courier stations set up, and shops along the way where travelers could rest their feet and drink a cup of tea.

Separated only by a single river, the difference felt like that of heaven and earth.

Yunxiang was somewhat surprised to see this, but more than that, she felt as if she had picked up on something.

"This is all Yan Land, so why is there such a massive difference between the north and south of the Sheng River?"

In the Northern Region, the mountains swarmed with bandits and taxes were crushing. But here in the south, everything was in perfect order. When she inquired about the taxes, she learned they weren't heavy here at all.

"Why are the taxes in the Northern Region so heavy?"

"The Northern Region?" The shop assistant stared blankly, puzzled. "Aren't they all the same?"

Chen Changsheng and Yunxiang couldn't help but exchange a glance.

There was definitely something strange going on here...

"Perhaps I remembered wrong," Chen Changsheng remarked.

As they traveled further south, things became increasingly interesting.

The people in the Southern Parts led prosperous lives. They cultivated fields and planted mulberries, with the men farming and the women weaving, as if nothing had ever changed.

But the more idyllic it was, the more suspicious it made them.

It was even more peaceful here than in Weidi.

"Has the trading firm never investigated the situation south of the Sheng River? Yan County is also in the Southern Domain; the trading firm should have mentioned it long ago," Chen Changsheng asked.

Yunxiang replied, "Mister might not know, but Tang Manor relocated to the Capital City a long time ago. Firstly, for the convenience of business, and secondly, because there were simply too many bandits in Yan Land. Today, the Tang Manor over in Yan County is merely the ancestral estate. Only a few elders remain there in retirement, so it receives very little attention."

Yunxiang furrowed her brow. "Something is wrong. The trading firm has investigated the conditions of all regions over the years. According to their reports, the area south of the Sheng River is supposed to be especially chaotic, with numerous mountain bandits and frequent unrest. They never mentioned it being this peaceful."

"Is that so..."

Chen Changsheng guided the horse along.

He suddenly felt that this place was somewhat unreal.

He promptly opened his Dharma Eye to inspect their surroundings, yet everything around them was undeniably real. It was no illusion.

Then what exactly was going on?

With these doubts in mind, the horse carriage set off once more.

The further south they went, the more peaceful it became. The commoners were self-sufficient, and the surroundings were incredibly stable. They did occasionally run into a few scattered robbers, but compared to earlier years, there were far fewer of them.

When they asked the locals, they were told that the Local Government had cracked down on bandits a few years ago. Everyone who needed to be caught had been caught; the ones they saw now were just fresh outlaws who had only recently taken to the hills.

"The outside world is a total mess, so why is it so peaceful here?"

They happened upon an inn.

They stopped there to rest.

Chen Changsheng took the opportunity to ask an inn worker about the matter.

The worker said, "The outside is the outside, but it is extremely peaceful here. Speaking of which, it's all thanks to our Prince's compassion for the common folk. Otherwise, how could we have the days we have now?"

Chen Changsheng paused slightly upon hearing this, immediately discovering the crux of the problem.

He looked at the worker and asked, "Has the Prince of Yan conscripted soldiers in the last two years?"

The worker said, "Of course he has. A good number of people went. They can send a lot of money back home in a year, so why wouldn't they go?"

"I see..."

Yet there were still some things Chen Changsheng couldn't figure out.

Namely, were the people in the outside world unaware of how peaceful this place was?

It was like a hidden utopia isolated from the rest of the world.

With such a massive stretch of land, it was impossible for absolutely no news to leak out.
