The tavern's waiter had arranged lodging for them, but Chen Changsheng politely declined. He could not linger.

The horse carriage set off once more, heading straight for Shangjing this time.

Upon hearing the news, Shopkeeper Zhou rushed over in a frantic hurry.

Shopkeeper Zhou's ears were somewhat red when he arrived, as though they had been pinched. It was likely Madam Zhou's doing.

"Mister Chen, you're leaving so soon?" Shopkeeper Zhou said. "Why not stay and enjoy yourself for a couple more days, Mister Chen!"

Chen Changsheng smiled. "I won't stay. I only passed through to see an old friend. I still have matters to attend to, so I won't linger."

Shopkeeper Zhou opened his mouth, then urged, "Wait a moment, just wait a moment, Mister!"

He glanced back.

He looked anxious, as if afraid Chen Changsheng would simply leave.

"No, no, no, just wait a short while, Mister," Shopkeeper Zhou replied. "The waiter is almost here."

Just then, two waiters came running over, carrying a jar of wine between them.

They were panting heavily by the time they arrived.

Chen Changsheng paused in surprise, then stepped down from the horse carriage.

"This is the tavern's own brew," Shopkeeper Zhou said. "Keep it for the road, Mister. A man who loves wine as much as you do cannot travel without it."

Chen Changsheng stood dazed for a moment. Looking at the jar of wine, he felt a complex surge of emotions.

"Quickly, quickly, load it onto the carriage."

At the shopkeeper's order, the waiters hoisted the wine aboard.

Chen Changsheng looked at Shopkeeper Zhou and sighed softly in his heart. A smile surfaced on his face. "This Chen will come again."

Hearing this, Shopkeeper Zhou paused, then nodded with a cheerful smile. "Aye."

His smile was thoroughly refreshing.

They had met by chance, yet this friendship—carried by a jar of wine and a flash of a red tail—stretched on endlessly.

.

.

The horse carriage had only just hit the road.

Yet someone stopped it once again.

"Mister Chen!"

"Please wait, Mister Chen!"

The newcomer rushed over frantically. He sported a mustache and carried a turtle shell on his back.

Chen Changsheng halted the horses and looked back.

The newcomer caught his breath, cupped his hands, and said, "This Old Turtle greets Mister Chen."

Chen Changsheng dismounted, returned the greeting, and said, "Greetings, Turtle Prime Minister."

Out of curiosity, Yunxiang also lifted the curtain to take a look.

Rumors said there was an Underwater Dragon Palace in the river, ruled by the Dragon Lord. The Turtle Prime Minister ranked second in command—below only the Dragon Lord and above ten thousand demons.

Was this that very Turtle Prime Minister?

The Turtle Prime Minister smiled. "You travel too quickly, Mister. The Dragon Lord knew you were coming and specifically asked this Old Turtle to wait here. He invites you to the Dragon Palace for a chat. Moreover, the dragon princes and princesses miss you dearly. I hope you will do us the honor."

The Turtle Prime Minister's expression could only be described as fawning. This hardly suited his status, but there was no denying that within the Dragon Palace, the shrewdest figure was none other than him.

He was certainly not someone to be underestimated.

Chen Changsheng paused. Initially, he hadn't felt this detour was necessary, but seeing the Turtle Prime Minister speak so earnestly, it was hard to refuse. He agreed.

"Where are we going?" Lihua asked curiously.

"Today, we're going to the Dragon Palace to drink."

Chen Changsheng replied.

"Mister," Yunxiang asked curiously, "could this Dragon Palace be in the river?"

"Exactly," Chen Changsheng nodded.

"Rumors always said there was an Underwater Dragon Palace in the river, but I never expected it to be real," Yunxiang marveled.

Lihua was also quite curious about this Dragon Palace.

It blinked and asked, "Is it Mo Yuan?"

"It's not Mo Yuan," Yu Hongjin explained, "it's another True Dragon."

"Is he stronger than Mo Yuan?"

"Hmm..."

Yu Hongjin blinked. "I don't know. He's probably stronger. I heard that Dragon Lord was born several hundred years before Mo Yuan."

"Hmm..."

Lihua grew even more curious.

Under the Turtle Prime Minister's lead, the group descended into the river.

Yunxiang gazed at the underwater scenery. Schools of fish swam past in shades of emerald and jade. The deeper they went, the more dazzling and colorful the sights became, leaving her overwhelmed by the beauty.

Passing through a submerged tunnel, their line of sight suddenly opened up.

A magnificent, jade-green palace revealed itself before their eyes.

Lihua's eyes widened, brimming with curiosity. After a long while, it blurted out, "So big! So bright!"

Yu Hongjin snapped out of her own amazement. Thanks to Lihua's exclamation, she instantly lost all sense of wonder for the palace.

What the heck did "so big, so bright" even mean?

Someone was already waiting outside the hall.

Ying Yuan looked at Chen Changsheng, cupped his hands, and smiled. "Ying Yuan greets Uncle Chen."

His gaze then shifted to Yu Hongjin. "Long time no see, Yu Hongjin."

Yu Hongjin nodded. "Ah, greetings, Second Crown Prince."

Back when she was traveling, she had crossed paths with the Second Crown Prince, though they were merely acquaintances.

"After so many years, how come you haven't grown any taller?" Ying Yuan teased with a smile.

Yu Hongjin gave a dry laugh, suddenly feeling rather gloomy.

He really had a knack for hitting a sore spot.

Ying Yuan chuckled and patted her head. "I'm just teasing you."

As he spoke, his gaze landed on the mortal woman standing beside the Mister.

"Uncle Chen, this is..."

"This is Miss Yun," Chen Changsheng said.

After a moment of thought, he added, "According to her, she is half a wife to this Chen."

Yunxiang smiled helplessly. Initially, she had been quite self-conscious about that claim, but it no longer felt like such a grave matter. She gently chided him, "What nonsense are you spouting, Mister..."

Ying Yuan blanked for a moment, then solemnly cupped his hands. "Greetings, Aunt!"

Yunxiang immediately grew flustered. Blushing, she stammered, "No, it's not..."

Ying Yuan smiled. "Don't be so modest, Aunt. Come, let's not stand outside talking. The banquet is already set. Uncle, Aunt, please come in!"

Yunxiang smiled helplessly and lightly thumped the Mister's shoulder. "You really mustn't speak such nonsense anymore, Mister."

Chen Changsheng spread his hands. "This Chen wasn't the one who said it first."

Yunxiang lowered her head with a blush. As she grew older, she somehow became even more easily embarrassed.

Ying Yuan walked into the Dragon Palace.

Upon seeing his sister and father, he hurriedly announced, "Sister, Father, Mister Chen is here, and he brought Aunt!"

"Aunt?" Ying Zheng paused in surprise. "What aunt?"

The Old Dragon King snapped to his senses and immediately sat bolt upright.

To think the man surnamed Chen was actually capable of romantic feelings!

The previously composed Old Dragon King instantly dashed outside.

Ying En smiled helplessly. "Father, slow down."

"I can't slow down!"

The Old Dragon King shouted back, sprinting out in a frantic rush.

He was truly curious about what kind of woman Chen Changsheng's Dao companion could be.

The Old Dragon King spotted Chen Changsheng from afar, but his gaze fell straight onto Yunxiang.

"Long time no see, Dragon Lord," Chen Changsheng smiled.

"We just saw each other two days ago," the Old Dragon King said, waving his hand. "You step aside for a bit. This Lord wants to have a chat with this young lady."

Yunxiang paused in surprise, then dipped into a slight curtsy. "Yunxiang greets the Dragon Lord."

The Old Dragon King scrutinized Yunxiang, but then began to mutter in bafflement.
