Immortal Travel of Longevity
Chapter 895: Celestial Official Lin Lu Comes SeekingYing En and Ying Yuan hurried over.
Seeing their father and uncle chatting so casually, they finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"That scared me to death," Ying Yuan said with a long exhale.
The Old Dragon King glanced at him. "You can't even handle a little wind and waves. What is there to be afraid of?"
Ying Yuan froze for a moment, then lowered his head. "Father is right to scold me."
Ying En chimed in, "Father, don't be so hard on Second Brother. He wasn't afraid of the spectacle, but that you and Uncle Chen would actually fight. As your children, we wouldn't have known what to do."
The Old Dragon King chuckled. "En'er has a much better way with words. You could learn a lot from her, boy."
Ying Yuan smiled in response.
With that, the group returned to the Dragon Palace.
"You aren't hurt, Mister?" Yunxiang asked, though she sounded almost angry.
"No, we were just playing around," Chen Changsheng replied.
Yunxiang shot him a look. "Mister's idea of playing around looks awfully real."
Chen Changsheng gave a light cough. "I made Miss Yun worry."
Yunxiang paused, then gave a slight shake of her head.
Recovering himself, Chen Changsheng looked toward the Old Dragon King. "Dragon Lord, This Chen won't go inside. I still have a long journey ahead and must be on my way."
The Old Dragon King waved a hand. "Get lost, then. This king wouldn't dare hope to keep you here, Mister Chen."
Chen Changsheng smiled helplessly. "Stinky loach."
"Old and improper," the Old Dragon King shot back.
Off to the side, the Turtle Prime Minister's eyelids gave a violent twitch. Those few casual words had nearly scared the turtle shell right off his back.
What?!
What old loach?!
The Turtle Prime Minister hurriedly lowered his head. He hadn't heard a thing.
"Farewell," Chen Changsheng said.
"Get out, get out." The Old Dragon King flapped his hand as if sweeping away bad luck.
With a resigned smile, Chen Changsheng turned to leave with Miss Yun.
Lihua smacked its lips and mumbled, "Aw, Lihua isn't full yet."
Yu Hongjin was thoroughly drunk, completely limp as Chen Changsheng dragged her away.
Before long, they emerged from the Tongtian River.
With plenty of people lingering along the banks, Chen Changsheng picked an inconspicuous spot to step back onto the shore.
"Wine, hehe..."
Yu Hongjin let out a boozy hiccup, looking like she was about to pass out entirely.
Miss Yun, on the other hand, felt a wave of relief upon returning to dry land. The depths of the river had felt suffocating to her, leaving a heavy weight on her chest that only vanished once they were out.
A short while later, the group made it back to the horse carriage.
Chen Changsheng had ended up carrying Yu Hongjin on his back. Once he set her inside the horse carriage, Miss Yun immediately began tending to her.
"You two go in first," Chen Changsheng said.
Yunxiang paused, looking at the Mister.
Chen Changsheng shook his head slightly, then lowered the carriage curtain.
His gaze shifted to the space behind them. "After following for so long, do you need This Chen to invite you out?"
A figure stepped out from behind a nearby tree.
A familiar face.
Lu Qishan was clad in a navy blue robe, a plum blossom hairpin resting in her hair. She dipped into a slight bow and cupped her hands. "celestial official Lin Lu greets Mister Chen."
Chen Changsheng said, "I haven't seen you in a few years, and you've completely changed."
When they first met, Lu Qishan had looked like a wild mountain girl. When she was fighting for the celestial official seat, she had seemed more like a roving swordswoman. But looking at her now, she carried the poise of a noble lady from a great house.
It was a drastic transformation.
Lu Qishan said, "Jiangnan nurtures people, and its women are reserved. After living here so long, it is only natural that I am a bit different from before."
Chen Changsheng nodded, then asked, "But I wonder, why are you following This Chen this time? I certainly hope you aren't blocking my path like you did the first time."
Lu Qishan answered calmly, "Earlier, waves swelled on the river and took the shape of a dragon. As a celestial official stationed over this region, it was my duty to investigate such an anomaly."
"I suppose that was because This Chen was sparring with the Dragon Lord at the bottom of the river, which caused the disturbance," Chen Changsheng said.
"So that was it..."
Lu Qishan parted her lips, her mind already spinning with thought.
That old dragon had been entrenched here for untold ages, possessing an unmatched Cultivation Base. Most of the time, Lu Qishan made sure to steer well clear of him. Yet this man was actually capable of sparring with that ancient dragon...
From the looks of it, Chen Changsheng was far more formidable than she had imagined.
Chen Changsheng said, "Earlier, This Chen heard the Badger Demon mention the matter of popularizing the Demon Market. I wonder if the celestial official has heard of this?"
Lu Qishan snapped out of her daze and replied, "He recently sent a letter to me bringing this up."
She paused for a moment before asking, "Was this matter Mister's idea?"
Chen Changsheng thought about it and said, "You could say that. Jindi suffers the most from demon disasters. First, because many water demons gather here, and second, because this region has very few mountain ranges. With nowhere else to go, the demons live among mortals, which inevitably causes trouble."
Unlike other places, Jindi lacked towering, impenetrable mountains. As far as the eye could see, the land was entirely accessible to humans, leaving the demons with nowhere to hide. Sometimes, these incidents weren't cases of demons deliberately picking fights or trying to take lives. Instead, it was simply humans drawing their blades in panic, leaving the demons with no choice but to resist, leading to tragedy.
More often than not, it merely came down to a lack of a place to live.
Lu Qishan said, "This method provides a peaceful sanctuary for the Demon Race. With mountains and markets kept separate, conflicts between both sides can gradually diminish. At the same time, by teaching them reasoning and principles through the Demon Market, we can resolve the current savagery of the Demon Race. The demon disasters of Jindi could truly be solved."
Chen Changsheng said, "If this succeeds, the disasters will be reduced by at least seventy percent. It is not just for the common people, but for the Demon Race as well. This is also an opportunity. If the celestial official can help drive this matter forward, it will certainly bring you a great bout of good fortune."
Lu Qishan hesitated, then opened her mouth again. "This matter..."
She paused before saying, "To be honest with Mister, Lin Lu still has some concerns."
"I am willing to hear them."
"First, it is because of the current situation in Jindi."
Lu Qishan let out a soft sigh and explained, "There is something Mister might not know. Just as there are conflicts between humans and demons, there are conflicts between demons and demons—especially between the water demons and the mountain demons. The water demons mostly serve the Demon Kings under the Dragon Palace's banner. They have been entrenched here for years, throwing their weight around, and they are not easy to deal with."
"Secondly, there are the many cultivators roaming through Jindi—primarily the Quanshan Cultivators. They kill demons on sight, slaughtering them without distinguishing between good and evil. Many honest demons have suffered an undeserved calamity because of this. If we attempt to establish a Demon Market, I fear it will attract Quanshan's attention. They will think the Demon Race is gathering to expand its power. If that happens, it could trigger a massacre."
Hearing this, Chen Changsheng nodded in understanding. "You don't need to worry about the Demon Kings under the Dragon Palace. This Chen has a token right here. If you take this item to the Dragon Palace, you can seek the Dragon Lord's protection. Finding the Dragon Maiden or the Second Crown Prince will be just as effective. As for Quanshan, This Chen will personally go persuade them. There is no need to worry."
Lu Qishan breathed a sigh of relief. "Since Mister is seeking blessings for the world and sweeping away the obstacles before us, Lin Lu will naturally do her utmost to help."
